In the UK we have one of finest open garden schemes in the world.
At a QNI council meeting in 1926, council member Miss Elsie Wagg came up with the idea of raising money for district nursing through the nation's obsession with gardening. A year later the National Garden Scheme—affectionately known as the NGS—was founded and garden owners were asked to open their gardens for 'a shilling a head'. In 1927 the NGS got itself formally under way and it has raised tens of millions of pounds for many good causes.

Because of Covid-19 the scheme had to be suspended in 2020. However in 2021 it got back on track. The entry fee these days averages around £5 per person.
For the first time since 2019 we managed to find a garden that appealed to myself and my wife. The photographs in this album were taken in the London suburb of Harrow. Famous for its school—though that is over on Harrow-on-the-HIll, so a few miles away—we found this garden an absolute delight!
I’ve named it ‘Paradise Found’. One of the UK’s finest garden presenters, Alan Titchmarsh, says that owners of small gardens shouldn’t be afraid of bold planting with large trees and shrubs. And this garden demonstrates that, if you are brave enough, it can turn any garden into a paradise.
Brenda, the owner of the garden, moved to the house in 1994, but she didn’t really get started on the design until the turn of the 21st century.
Measuring thirty five metres long and about five or six metres wide, you meander through what I can only describe as a tropical oasis. Lots of varieties of flowers, mainly perennials with a mixture of grasses, flowers, palms, and other herbaceous shrubs.
With cleverly thought out use of ornaments, tables, chairs, benches and other objet d’art, it gives a great deal of pleasure to the eye! Ultimately it’s a calming garden. The owner has installed a lovely outdoor room that can be used throughout all of the seasons. It’s a quiet tranquil space that allows privacy and views of the garden whilst relaxing, either reading a book or magazine, or listening to the battery driven digital radio.
Further on down the garden walk she has a beautiful aviary full of exotic birds. And the sound of the birds was enchanting!
The photographs, I hope, will give the viewer some idea of the garden’s beauty. And I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.

This one was one that was rough-cut a little too thin to be sustainable. It was in Stuart's "interesting firewood" pile, but I really like it as is.

Loved the silvery greys with the lilac, deeper burgundy and greens in this. They all seem to compliment one another. Could take them a step further to interior design or maybe an idea for a tartan. (There likely already is one).
Paisley Townscape Heritage and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (Paisley TH.CARS2) is a building repair and shopfront improvement grant scheme, which aims to improve historic properties and streetscape within the TH.CARS2 area to help regeneration in Paisley. The scheme was launched on the 21st February 2017 and it will run until 2022.THis location is at County Square Paisley

This photograph was taken on Sunday 24 June 2012, when visiting the collection of gardens (ten in all) when they opened to the public for the afternoon.
Cheddington is a small village to the north of Tring, in Hertfordshire.
The purpose was to raise money for various charities.
