----------------------------------

Ok - so here's my first CAFFENOL results with the TACMA 64 film.

(see the other 2 by clicking the TACMA64 tag)

(I did some pretty heavy contrast adjustment and dodging and burning to get it to look like this. the negative was extremely low contrast and very gray looking...)

Even so, I have to say I'm pretty pleased - though I made a serious mistake... I cut about 1/4 the roll and developed it first to see where I should go from there, but I failed to remember that I had actually underexposed the first 1/3 of the roll by accident when I forgot to change the ISO on the camera...

So anyway - this was shot at about ISO 180

then developed in Caffenol for about 35 minutes at 25ºC

So I have no clue how to develop the rest of the roll that was shot as ISO 50... any suggestions?

Sometimes a simple gravel trail can lead one to great heights . . .

A sheer chute drops from the edge of the rim of the Mt. Mulanje massif of Malawi to a dense forest reserve over a thousand meters below with views reaching out into the Great Rift Valley. The vista was shot from the rim of the massif several hours strenuous hike from Madzeka Hut within the southwest zone of the mountain.

This is a rescan of a Kodachrome slide first posted on Flickr in 2008. I'm rescanning at higher resolution all of my earlier low-resolutions scans done with a flatbed scanner (an HP Scanjet 4800). I'm now using a Nikon Supercoolscan 5000 at 4000 x 2500 (10 mp) resolution with Digital ICE turned on. I get a smoother image with higher resolution and better colours and no dust and scratches. I kept the old flatbed scan for comparison (see below).

I was intrigued by the bright greenish streak on the lake in the upper right of the photo. I thought at first that it might be a defect in the film or something introduced during processing. But looking at it large, it appears to be real; the light appears to be coming from the end of long floating rod-shaped object. Reading about Lake Plansee, I found out that it is a popular place for scuba divers looking for artefacts. My guess is that the light we see in the photograph was being used by divers in those row boats that were in the middle of the lake when I took the photograph on September 11, 1971. Just a guess!

This is one of the first pictures I took in New York. Close to Wall street, I thought it had some meaning. If you put a nice front on it, it is enough. ;)

Orderly rows of apartments in 1970s Singapore looked well maintained and a large step above the housing that I had experienced in other neighboring countries. It looks like every day is "laundry day" at this complex.

Long before Flickr--in fact, before the computer age, there was an entire street in Delhi dedicated to photography. The equipment was in large part from the previous century. One could have a portrait made on the spot with the developing done in a tiny sidewalk tent/darkroom, black & white only, of course.

The Battle of Boyacá in Colombia, then known as New Granada, was the battle in which Colombia acquired its definitive independence from Spanish Monarchy, although fighting with royalist forces would continue for years.

Brigadier Generals Francisco de Paula Santander and José Antonio Anzoátegui led a combined republican army of Colombians and Venezuelans, complemented by the British Legion, to defeat in two hours a Royalist Colombian-Venezuelan forces led by Spanish Colonels José María Barreiro and Francisco Jiménez.

Simón Bolívar credited the victory to the British Legion declaring that "those soldier liberators are the men who deserve these laurels" when offered laurels after the victory.

The battle occurred 150 km from Bogotá in the Andes Mountains, in a place known as Casa de Teja, close to a bridge over the Teatinos River and 3 roads heading to Samaca, Motavita and Tunja, an area which is now part of the Boyacá Department. (Source: Wikipedia)

Exposure Information

Date: 2012-07-26

Time: 10:00

Aperture: f5.6

Shutter: 1/250

Lens: Schneider Kreuznach Symmar-S 150mm f5.6

Field Notes: This was shot wide open. Camera position had to be very low and focus and position were critical. I also had to wait for the right shaft of light to illuminate the background. It was hard to get low and check the camera properly as the ground was extremely soggy.

I'm very pleased this came out. I think it is one of my favourite images from the whole trip so far. Very special.

It's still remix week! I think this is getting there now.
