an older image from a bike ride; I wonder how it fared through the storms

Spotted on our walk this morning, a sapling growing among some dead trees in Captains Wood.

Young maple (Acer sp.) sapling growing at a base of another tree.

This is a scene from a very local woodland to me and one in an area that historically has played a big part of my life. I really like the juxtaposition between the young sapling on the left and the broken branch on the right, with them being divided by the leaning tree in the middle. It just feels very symbolic of the direction of life. Starting with the vibrancy of youth and ending with the fractious nature of our time here.

I was out for a day because Photoshop was giving me problems. Very professional staff at Adobe helped me resolve the problem. Also updated my graphics processor driver.

Sapling ... shot on a Helios lens on my Lumix G2

A delicate, bare, winter sapling stands alone in the fog while other trees stand in the distance.

The journey to Skye last week took us through Glenshiel. Passing along Loch Cluanie we encountered some fairly thick mist, intermittently concealing completely the roadside and more distant mountains. We stopped near the end of the loch where I was drawn by this thin row of saplings and stones in the near-calm water. I had intended capturing this with the background peaks appearing above the mist but after a far too long, fruitless wait for the upper mist to lift, settled instead for this more intimate capture, isolated entirely from the mist covered surroundings.

i took this image because I thought it looked like two children holding onto their mother for safety.

Seen at the Valhalla Organic Macadamia Farm in Guatemala. The owners of this farm have made it their mission to bring macadamia nut trees to Guatemala and Central America. They give out hundreds of saplings a year to communities across the region in areas suitable for their cultivation. Once established, a macadamia tree can produce nuts for up to 150 years providing a sustainable source for high-quality protein and omega-3 fatty acids. They provide several varieties of trees to avoid the problems with fungus like you find on the banana and coffee plantations that rely on one variety of plant.

Some hand painting. This one really fought me. I had a very difficult time choosing colors and textures that did her justice. She began as very shiny purple.

Thanks for your visit, faves, and kind comments.

I liked the shadow cast by the sapling and willows just beyond the wall, the late evening light, and the colors of the stones.

Only a couple of leaves cling on (one barely visible) to this group of snow covered beech saplings.

Haven't had time to shoot lately, so this is from back in December.

I went for an evening walk on the abandoned railway track, and was charmed by the beauty of these autumn leaves on an elm sapling that grew beside an outcropping of bedrock.
