The traffic cones on top of the channel markers really help on a grey blustery day.

The Pair had such fun today. They packed sandwiches and went for An Adventure. It was a Long Way Away to Adventure, so they rode their scooters. Thankfully they're conscientious kids, so they wore their helmets. (Actually seeing as "riding a scooter" means "jumping onto the curb" for William, I was quite grateful for their helmets!)

Many people believe that working in the construction field is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Accidents can occur anywhere anytime which eventually may lead to death. Even though as humans we cannot avoid accidents due to constant change in working environment, we sure can do our best to prevent it. According to the bureau of statistics, there are about 150,000 construction-related injuries each year. The biggest problem that cause all these accidents is the fact that safety regulations are not emphasize enough to the workers in certain projects.

Since the working environment for every construction project is different, certain safety regulations can be more significant than others. I personally believe that educating the workers about the specific sites can help prevent accidents to them. In this way, the workers can be aware about the risks that can happen. Over 1,000 people get seriously injured and die each year because of the risks in the construction.

The first thing Liam did when hopping into the fire truck was attempt to put on his seat belt.

puerto baquerizo moreno on the island of san cristobal is the capital city of the galapagos - the self-proclaimed "Capital of Paradise".

unless you're really into cheap souvenir stands selling "i love boobies" t-shirts there's really no reason to ever visit the place. it was one thing when everyone flew in and out of the san cristobal airport and it was the port of departure. but, for safety reasons, the airport is closed for "repair" indefinitely and all commercial flights now use the military airport on the island of baltra.

however, to protect the local i-love-boobies-based economy, the national park service REQUIRES every tour to spend a day there. most of the group drank beer at a port bar or went back to the boat to read and nap.

i tried to capture the local ambience...

a few things to keep in mind as we enter 2009: safety first, always.

take care!

During his senior season in high school, our son was hit in the head with a baseball bat during a team practice. This is the bloodstained cap he was wearing at the time. There is a reason for many safety rules in youth sports that isn't apparent - until it happens to your child.

I am scanning in some recently recovered photos from this 1998 trip, it being almost the 10th anniversary of the time my friend Tom and I travelled to Tajikistan for three weeks to install PA systems in some of the most remote valleys in the world (so the Aga Khan, Imam of the Ismaili Muslims) could address his people.

So the fuel tanks go inside the Pakistani Mil Mi-8 helicopters so they don't get ruptured by machine gun fire. That was (kind of) reassuring. However, piling up tons of loose PA cabinets and scaffolding on top of them might not be a smart idea either

Kid holds onto his mums bike whilst she buys some fruit at a stall. Everytime I see kids riding on scooters either standing on the floor or sitting in the basket I get really jealous as I imagine it must be really fun to be on a scooter at such a young age.

Lifejackets for everyone!

I'm so pissed with some people. This is a safe shot even if mom's hand isn't holding baby's head, so shut your face!!!

Rant over! Safety is on the blog!
