“Thunder is good, thunder is impressive; but it is lightning that does the work.” -Mark Twain
In this video, it shows our area of San Jose, CA getting a decent amount of rainfall during the early predawn hours of April 7, 2015. Moderate to heavy rain was observed throughout a good portion of the San Francisco Bay Area this early morning. I did an early morning chase to observe the weather conditions around town before the morning commute began. At least that's one advantage of doing overnight weather spotting: no one on the streets!
Weather scenario in summary: An early spring storm system brings unsettled weather to California. A period of active weather was forecast for the San Francisco Bay Area and north Central Coast... A storm system was expected to impact Northern and Central California over the course of a few days, particularly around April 4-7, 2015.
The first wave of this storm was to begin to impact the forecasted area with light rain showers to the San Francisco Bay Area. The rainfall was to spread south Sunday morning (April 5) and was to linger into Monday (April 6). The second wave of the storm system was to be much colder and was to be more intense than the first wave. This wave was to bring rain... heavy at times... to the area Monday night persisting into Tuesday (April 6-7). A few rumbles of thunder was not out of the question.
As for the much-needed rainfall, some of the heaviest precipitation had occurred during the early Tuesday morning commute, causing inconvenience for many. Additionally... this storm was cold enough that snow was possible along the high peaks above 3500 feet elevation. Despite receiving (some) rainfall and snowfall, we would welcome any rain we could get since we were into our 4th year of drought...
