'Starship One' 16 arrival. KJAC-KADS

This is a shot I took of the Beechcraft Starship on display at the Kansas Aviation Museum. . .The Starship pioneered carbon-fiber composite airframe construction for civilian aircraft. It was not a commercial success and ONLY 53 were ever produced. This is Number 41. In addition to the carbon-fiber construction, it had the first "all-glass" cockpit ever used in a "bizplane". I didn't post this because I thought it was such a great shot, It's because I have a connection to this plane through my late father. . .Dad was an aeronautical design engineer who worked at Lockheed in California, McDonnell - Douglas in St. Louis, and finished his career at Beech Aircraft here in Wichita. The Starship was the last project Dad worked on before he retired. . .This plane has become a somewhat forgotten pioneer in the history of civilian aircraft. . .But to reinforce my thoughts about its place in history, no less an authority than "Flying" Magazine, the longtime bible of aviation publications, said in its "Century of Flight" issue that the Starship "deserves a place as one of the milestone airplanes of the First Century of Flight." As I walked around the tarmac at the Kansas Aviation Museum taking shots of the custom cars on display, it made me sad to look over at the Starship. . .You see, I did extensive work on this image to clean it up and make the plane look presentable. . .The exterior of the Starship is actually in pretty bad shape. . .In fact, not even one of the custom car owners parked their car anywhere near it. . .And I think it is still one of the coolest-looking general aviation planes ever designed. . .Go to Google, type in Beech Starship, hit "Images" and check out the "in-flight" shots of this plane. . .It first flew in 1986, and still looks cool all these years later. . .For such a historic design, and with my family connection to it, it was sad to see it looking forlorn and almost abandoned off in a corner of the tarmac, with no cars or spectators paying any attention to it. . .This was the only shot I could clean up enough to post, but in memory of my Dad, I simply had to show the Starship and remind people of its story. . .

Let's just say, thanks for everything in Paris!

Truck Thursday

When I was in Seneca Falls this truck went past me and the lady inside waved at me. This is an ice-cream truck!

Let's take off together in a Starship, let's light up the sky, let's never look back baby, you and I.

The Magellan Modular Starship is a system that allows the user to easily customize their starship to meet their own unique requirements. Whether you need a battle cruiser, transport, or simply a luxury starship, the Magellan Modular Starship is precisely what you need.

Please check out the modular construction group. While my SHIP is using a 10x10x10 standard, I would still love to see more people building space using this style of modularity.

These are the continuing voyages of the science vessel Vanderbelt. Currently on assignment in the Vega Delta Cluster extracting large heavy metal deposits designated for star ship hull construction. Once the miners have secured the metal deposits aboard, scientists begin to examine the purity of the metals to determine whether or not they can be used for hull construction. - www.mocpages.com/moc.php/399970

Second day of texturing. So far I have most of the saucer top, saucer bottom, bridge and impulse deck done. The red hatches are leftovers from the Constitution class model, I kinda like them but I'll probably end up removing them.

In the waning days of the Galactic Republic, Kuat Systems Engineering produced a series of compact luxury yachts.

The starship was marketed towards the wealthy businessman who liked a bit of piloting action himself.

It had the agility and speed to keep up with even the better starfighters of that time. While still providing the comfort one might expect from a luxury yacht.

(There used to be a jacuzzi on board).

To make all of that possible the craft is propelled by three rather large engines, one integrated in the tail and the other two mounted one on each side.

The fuel consumption however is ridiculous.

Naturally, achieving the performing stats of an X-wing on a craft that weighs at least 4 times as much comes at a cost…

However, somewhere around the forming of the Galactic Empire, this particular ship found its way into the hands of a bounty hunter (probably stolen).

To suit the profession better the ship underwent some serious modifications.

These mostly involve adding armament and removing unnecessary features.

(such as the jacuzzi mentioned earlier).

A dorsal mounted cannon allows for fending off pursuers, a considerable part of the living space behind the cockpit was sacrificed to fit a military grade deflector shield generator in order to be able to withstand some serious enemy fire and the rear observation segment was filled with various tracking equipment and a cloaking device, making it well-capable to make itself invisible to most scanners.

Seems like KSE is a most suited supplier of bounty hunter ships.

This MOC is actually the successful marriage of two WIPs I had laying about.

I’ve been wanting to do some more starship building and was looking into renovating this previously build ship. But I soon realised it was in such a bad shape that I might as well start over again. So I did.

I had a lot of features I wanted on the ship and not all of them made it.

No functional boarding ramp alas but it does have all the flaps, vents and greebles I like.
