Single Neewer V850II speedlight on light stand to the right triggered by Yongnuo RF-603 triggers. The triggers allow the D40 to exceed the factory 1/500 flash sync limit. Tiffen variable ND used to control ambience. No diffuser or gels used - I like to keep things simple.

Tanto blade mounted in a Shirasaya (non-aesthetic sheath used for storage).
The proof of concept may be developed and was satisfying to complete. The pin is functional securing the blade. The stand is assembled in three parts, much like the real thing. It's difficult to see it and not desire to try it out. It's simply draws you in!

At Cape Banks yesterday morning, there was no clouds for a great shoot. To make matter worse, I didnt realise that I lost my lee adaptor ring and shutter release cable. So I had no choice but to try something different.
Continue to learn how to use the equipment you have.
High ISO, knowing a general knowledge of how and why of this, you can improve your changes of using it along with post processing to keep more images.
Had watched a video about darkening an image will help reduce "noise". So this evening, I shot images with exposure compensation of +.3 to +.7 and had to bring down exposure globally and after done LR editing sent Topaz, produces a good image.
When photographers tell me I need to get a Z8 or Z9, buy me one and I will use it.
This is the side of my hometown ice cream stand, a riotous gathering place for high school kids and families all summer long. Although this looks like it's the 1950s, it is 2006.
Probably the stand out tractor of the 85 vintage tractors which paraded at Onslow Park is this impressive John Dere 5020 MUX641F built in 1968.
