I didn't think my minifigures were getting the attention they deserved sitting in a box, and it was hard for the kids to find their favorites to play with. My solution was to prototype and build my own wall-mounted display case. It's 31" x 31" in size, holds 300 minifigures, and, at 1,515 pieces, weighs 6 pounds empty.
I envision this to be dynamic artwork, showing the 300 most interesting figures at any given time. I didn't want to enclose the display so that the kids could have easy access to any of our population.

People stop at a Little Italy gelato stand on a summer evening, Manhattan
Near the end of the year it is my custom to start going back to my raw file archives from the previous year, looking for photographs that I might have overlooked initially. Sometimes I missed them because I was working on other things that caught my attention at the time. In other cases there were simply a lot of photographs, and I moved on to other work before finishing with an earlier set of photographs. I'm starting that project now, so you are likely to see some older work mixed in with more recent photographs over the next few weeks.
We spent a week in New York City in July. (Yes, I know that smart people don't go to New York during the hot and humid summer months. But I do. Draw your now conclusions... ;-) This time we stayed in the general area of Little Italy. That area is a bit of a tourist place, but it is also an interesting place to wander at night. There are lots of light, lots of shops, and lots of people out and about. On this evening I headed out from the hotel just after dark and did a quick loop through the neighborhood with my camera. Here a group of people lines up at a small gelato stand, while someone shops next door and nearby people sit on benches along the sidewalk.

Whilst Andy Stables was collecting beautiful images at Neist Point, I had to contend with using standing stones for foreground interest!
The lifeboat station at Bembridge, Isle of Wight gives a lovely midline focal point.
I just loved the texture of the foreground, with the rocks, small pools and the green seaweed over the rocks closer to the shoreline.

Afghan girls aren’t allowed to ride bikes, but they can skateboard, and 40% of Skateistan's students are girls ranging from 5-18 years.

Built in the 1000s on the foundations of an earlier church, listed as a Historic Landmark on Prosper Mérimée’s very first list in 1840, the abbey church of Saint Theudère stands in the village of Saint-Chef in the French département of Isère, east of Lyon, towards the Alps.
When I say “earlier church”, I mean the one built in the 500s (of which nothing visible remains) when Theudère of Dauphiné, a local Benedictine monk who had been a trained disciple of Saint Césaire in Arles, returned to bis birthplace to found an abbey. The village of Saint-Chef grew around it during the Middle Ages, while the abbey itself reached its apogee around 1200, at the end of the Romanesque age, when it ruled over a dozen priories and about 80 churches in the environs. Decline came shortly after 1300, when the monks, profoundly divided in two factions, could not elect a new abbot. Pope John XII, then residing in Avignon, issued a bull in 1320 whereby the archbishop of Vienne would become the abbot of Saint-Chef, which forever lost its independence as of that fateful day.
The last remnants of the Benedictine communal life were washed away in the 1530s when the remaining “monks” (but could they still be called that?) were authorized by King Francis Ist and Pope Paul III to abandon their religious status and their vows (including that of poverty!), thus turning them into secular canons. The canons then went on living what was probably a much more comfortable (in all material respects!) life, until that wasn’t even good enough: in 1774, they requested and obtained (claiming isolation and the insalubrious nature of the area, poor dears) to abandon the village of Saint-Chef and be transferred to the abbey of Saint-André-le-Bas in the city of Vienne.
It should come as no surprise that, when the French Revolution erupted a few years later, not many voices were raised to defend and protect the abbey’s buildings, which were sold, destroyed and their stones used for construction works in the village and surrounding area.
The church itself, turned into a parish church, remained as the only legacy of what the powerful abbey had once been.
This rather sad story of downfall, lack of resolve and backbone, and probably outright lack of faith, outweighed by an appetite for creature comforts and personal wealth by those who had vowed to forsake them, has fortunately not contaminated the church itself, which remains as it ever was, one of the most striking examples of Romanesque architecture in the Dauphiné province. Even more importantly, the Saint Theudère former abbey church houses one of the finest (in all of France!) sets of Romanesque alfresco paintings from the 1100s, located in places not normally open to the public, but to which I managed to secure access. I hope you will enjoy them.
Back down at nave level, this shows the chancel and apse. The capitals around the chancel are the only sculpted ones in the church, and the leafy motifs remain very simple, almost at the level of a rough outline, a preliminary study. The stained glass is 19th century, as are the ugly paintings on the cul-de-four vault of the apse —or at least, what’s still visible of them, as they have been deteriorated by humidity seeping through.

Substituting for the advertised 34027 ‘Taw Valley’, 60800 'Green Arrow' leaves Bath Spa with 13 coaches forming Pathfinder's 07:20 Taunton-Southampton 'Ocean Liner Limited' on 27 August, 2001. Part of the National Collection, unique 1936-vintage ‘Green Arrow’ has been out of action since suffering a boiler problem back in 2008. Unfortunately, she also requires a new monobloc three-cylinder casting, the cost of which is currently not in the NRM’s budget.

Taken this afternoon on 6a in Dennis - this is just the cutest little produce and flower stand! It was so colorful and pretty I just couldn't pass it by without stopping for a picture.
Paired up 76016 & 76010 stand in Rotherwood Exchange Sidings near Woodhouse awaiting their next turn of duty. This was about 09.00 and I would later see the pair at Woodhead on the 8M17 11.18 Monckton - Northwich coal hoppers. The ill-fated Woodhead line and the class 76s had just five weeks of operation left.
One of the main reasons that I really wanted to get the burning burger stand from last year's City sets... It was an updated version of the old hamburger stand. Absolutely lovely!
Given these easter times I thought that this might be a fitting photo. This is the centrepiece of the Vatican: The St. Peters cathedral which is lit up at night. As you - and the man admiring it can see it is quite an imposing sight up close. This was taken last summer a bit after this photo when the night had fallen completly. Here is another one taken the same night.
You should really watch this Large On Black since that brings out a lot more detail. My pictures aren't balanced for a white background and a lot of the finer details are lost in this small format.
