My Buddy, my Pal, my wonderful dog Grissom has peed on the side of the Rainbow Bridge and has left us. The vet suspects he had a stroke that affected his ability to balance and walk. He was greeted by one of the special golden sunsets we get from time to time. Grissom was closing in on twelve which is near the end of a Boxer dog's average lifespan.
It's whispered that soon, If we all call the tune
then the piper will lead us to reason
and a new day will dawn
for those who stand long
and the forests will echo with laughter
Sealy Tarns (Sealy Tarns Track)
Mount Cook National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Southern Alps
South Island, New Zealand
Continuing on my series of famous mountains in New Zealand. Aoraki/ Mount Cook stands at 3724m, it is the tallest mountain in New Zealand. As one drives into Mount Cook national park, one would definitely be awe struck by its grandeur. It leaves an indelible impression those who visits. Sir Edmund Hillary, the first Mountaineer to summit Mount Everest, spent much of his time training on this Mountain.
Sadly I am not a mountaineer, so I decided to settle on the numerous tracks that branch off from the White Horse Hill car park/ campground. The more famous ones include the Hooker valley track and Kea Point. Seeing that there was still 6 hours of daylight, I decided to be ambitious and try something less touristy. I have seen numerous photographs from Sealy Tarns and none of them ceases to amaze me. I knew I had to see it with my own eyes.
The signs warned hikers of the steep terrain and it sure didn't disappoint. 2200 steps greeted me as I zig zagged my way up to Mueller Ridge, aptly named the "Stairways to Heaven". This might possibly be due to its grueling ascent filled with spectacular views. I have often heard people saying hiking alone gives them time to contemplate life. Maybe that is true. But more often than not I find myself thinking positive thoughts to serve as distractions from all the soreness in my legs and the shortness of my breath. I stopped plenty of times to take in the views and count my blessings.
Sealy Tarn finally appeared into view. It was a relatively small body of water but provides crisps reflection of the surrounding mountains on a calm day. The weathered picnic table in the image is at the end of the track. At this point, I sincerely wished that there was a special someone to share a meal with me at unworldly location on such a beautiful day.
Returning to reality, I left my bag on the table and wandered around trying to find interesting vantage points. Ten minutes later, I heard people whistling and calling out to see if anyone was around. It was a group of German hikers who were concerned that I might have fallen off the ridge or got into some danger, after spotting my unattended backpack. Such kind and friendly gentlemen.

Sometimes circumstances shout for HDR.
While going to the Kaapse bossen for making a new autumn shot, I saw the circumstances were not as good as last year (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/15662983372), but when I went down from the wooden tower, I noticed this HDR opportunity. I missed it completely last year. A wide angle lens was used here to give an impression of the dimensions.
I found the stairway to heaven this morning at Jupiter ISland during sunrise at the beach in Coral Cove Park. HDR image created using Aurora HDR Software by Macphun.
I have taken several photos from this beautiful place at the summit of Zumsteinspitze, most of them were stitched panoramas with a huge angle of view. Meanwhile, I really like this simple single shot a lot with its view over the short snowy crest leading down to Grenzsattel. We can well recognize the path leading through the snow between the reddish rocks to the summit of Dufourspitze (left side, 4634 m). At the right side we can see Nordend (4609 m) with its elegant snowy crest: It is possible to climb down from Dufourspitze to Silbersattel and following the crest to this further summit.
I have been two times at that place, unfortunately in both situations there was some buddy not feeling really well so we decided to go back without climbing this peaks.
After some years with a lot of adversities now, I’m often feeling like a wreck but I’m sure if I’ll manage to get back at that place I will give it a try and visit these bautiful summits too!

Please have a look at my albums:
On my way to see a customer a while back in the Glendale Galleria, I walked through Nordstrom. I always liked going that way because I loved listening to the piano being played there. People would normally come and go while beautiful music could be heard along the way. This time was different as the piano player had a large audience who stopped to listen as he played Stairway To Heaven. It was amazing and I'll never forget it. I've mostly outgrown headbanger music, I do still enjoy some variations like this.
Nordstrom has since moved from the Glendale Galleria over to nearby Americana at Brand.
The little olivewood piano in the picture is a music box. It plays Camelot.

Poppi’s castle is located in the homonymous village in the zone called “Casentino” (the area of Tuscany at north of Arezzo town).
It was built by Lords Guidi around the end of the XII cent., then rebuilt in 1274 and enlarged in 1291.
In the photo you can see the inner courtyard, characterized by nice stairs, galleries and several nobiliary coat of arms on the walls.
