I found this stairway in a side room in the old church in Oamaru.
I didn't venture up it, you never know what might be up there :)
New Zealand.

Led Zeppelin chante Stairway to heaven.

ON THE GENTLE GIANT SUMMIT *
Between heaven and earth…
The summit of the Gentle Giant.
An expanse of frozen silence
No sign of the human artificial universe
Not even vegetation
So few rocks.
A raw nature that defies human landmarks.
A world of fantastic tales,
From those who inhabit the imagination of children.
These impossible universes in which we dream of living.
But for what reasons would one want to live here?… If not to spend an unforgettable moment with oneself? ... Where to shoot a sequel to the Wizard of OZ movie?
Because, in front of me, in this cloudy cluster, the Universe is coming to meet me
And he doesn't care about my moods ...
I hear my spirit begging me to run away!
I search in vain for the right words
To describe the intensity of this magical and tragic world at the same time
But slowly in my head a familiar tune makes its way
Led Zeppelin sings Stairway to heaven.
Premonitory, isn't it? I slowly climbed this staircase ...
… And there is no way I will miss the rest!

* This image and its text are the result of very diverse influences. Thanks to Sylvain Tesson, writer and explorer for his incomparable life stories, to those who dedicate their talents to the wonder of children (The Wizard of Oz…) as well as to Gentle Giant and Led Zeppelin, two legendary rock groups who, they too, have amazed a generation. None of them would have imagined, one day, sharing the same scene with the others!
The obvious words that sprang to my mind when first viewing the marvelous 600 steps at the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte near Braga, Portugal was Stairway to Heaven. This basilica with its Manueline Baroque staircase is truly amazing. Penitents have been known to climb these stairs on their knees.

"My life is a stairway to heaven, not a 'decline into decrepitude'."

From beautiful Freycinet National Park, we -- the two photographers and the binocularist -- went south to visit Port Arthur Goal. Although a harsh place with tiny cells for the prisoners, the scenery was beautiful; and unlike the gruesome penal jails (like Sarah Island near Hells Gate Lighthouse) was considered revolutionary at the time.
This was because it was based on the idea that prisoners could be reformed through psychological punishment, trade training, and religious education.
Our visit included a haunted ghost trip, but sadly (or fortunately) did not attract any ghosts that night.
The next morning before heading north to Launceston, and the Tamara River to see the controversial site of the planned Bell Bay Pulp Mill (including old growth pulping), we first went south a bit to see more wild sea stacks from the dolomite cliffs.

"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven..."

Here you have a wider view of the details I showed you in my two previous photos - with a bit of puzzling you can guess where the window with a view and the stairway to heaven are! ;-)
Malmesbury Abbey was once a rich and powerful Benedictine abbey, founded round 676.
Some more photos will follow later: parts survived a fire, the Dissolution and - well, time!
The Pearl (in Iceland "Perlan") at the outer area of Reykjavik is a gas storage for energie supply but also a place to go for leisure with a restaurant, changing exhibitions, etc. Here you can see the interior central staircase. The surrounding bulks are the gas container.

I'm heading there this week to check on things and take some time away from the farm. It's been a long and super hot season. Hopefully if the weather cooperates, I'll do some shooting. See you sometime next week. Thanks for for the views, faves and especially for your comments.

Circular stairway of electrified plasma found in Schloss Filseck along B10 near Uhingen, Germany. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. :-)
Who’d really pass up the opportunity to take that hike and check out the sheer beauty and tranquility of those magnificent Grand Tetons....
The Autumn glow was certainly prevalent that day and lit up the place all around us.
Thanks for your continued kindness and most awesome support...
Have a Great Thursday and end to your week friends.....
Since childhood, I have taken numerous pictures of Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory (aka Belle Isle Conservatory) on many occasions, fascinated by its shape and collection of plants. This is not the photo usually seen, but it's my favorite.
It was designed by noted local architects Albert Kahn and George Mason in 1902-1903, opening in 1904, and now the oldest continually running conservatory in the U.S.. It was renamed for Anna Scripps Whitcomb in honor/thanks for her donation to the museum of her collection of 600 orchids.
(Note: This view, with domes increasing in size, with an antenna pointing upward reminded me of a stairway, and with Whitcomb's donation of orchids...well, if you know the song by Led Zeppelin...)
