The fifth SS Rotterdam, also known as "The Grande Dame", is a former ocean liner and cruise ship, and has been a hotel ship in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, since 2010. She was launched by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands in a gala ceremony on 13 September 1958, and was completed the following summer. The Rotterdam was the last great Dutch "ship of state", employing the finest artisans from the Netherlands in her construction and fitting out process. Her career spanned forty-one years. She sailed from 1959 until her final retirement in September 2000.

Diving conditions on the SS Yongala were not ideal, but we managed three dives that day. This was taken at the bow of the wreck, and gives you a glimpse at the size of the actual ship.

Un grazie particolare a Marco (Marcutio) per quest'altra bellissima SS!!!!!♥

Dicky Beach is a suburb of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia, located within the Caloundra urban centre.

The area was named after the iron steamboat, the SS Dicky, which ran aground during heavy seas in 1893. It was re-floated, but again, heavy seas turned the ship about and back onto the sand where it remains to this day.

Dicky Beach remains the only recreational beach in the world to be named after a shipwreck. (Wikipedia)

The SS United States is the fastest ocean liner ever built and the largest built in America. Her future is uncertain, so please help the SS United States Conservancy in their efforts to restore and preserve her as a waterfront development and museum. www.ssunitedstatesconservancy.org

It has been a real struggle to get some photos this weekend due to the horrendous weather conditions. It eased up here today and so I ducked to the beach to get some photos of the old favourite, the SS Dicky wreck. I thought with the sea foam around it would make a unique shot of a well known landmark.

Polarising filter and 3 stop ND filter to get some movement in the foam and water.

Built by the San Francisco Shipbuilding Company in Oakland as an oil tanker, the Palo Alto was launched on May 29, 1919. She remained docked in the San Francisco Bay for over 10 years and was then purchased by the Seacliff Amusement Company of Nevada and towed to Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, California. The ship was grounded in the bay and connected to the shore by a long pier. An arcade, dining room, dance hall and even a swimming pool were built on the ship.

Unfortunately, the Seacliff Amusement Company went out of business two years later under the financial crunch of the Great Depression. Then, in winter, a storm cracked the ship across her midsection. The Palo Alto was stripped of all salvagable metal and fixtures and turned into a fishing pier.

This is am image I took just after a major storm had passed and went out to sea. I am glad I had ran down to the beach to get this image as it won me an award in the 2013 Epson International Pano competition.

The SS Dicky was an iron steamboat which ran aground during heavy seas in 1893.
