Just before this huge mass of dark clouds hit our area, I saw this bright structure and the well defined contrast. As I approached the place, I saw hidden along the banks of Hackensack River is the retired US Naval submarine USS Ling (SS-297). Ling patrolled the American shores during World War II.

A Van Hool TX16 that I had previously photographed some years back when it was with Reays of Wigton.
Only a couple of weeks after my photograph was taken, this vehicle was severely damaged by fire and subsequently written-off.

Was raining on and off at homebush this morning. Managed to get a short clear break to capture this image. Thanks for viewing my photography.
Squalus (SS-192) floats on even keel at Portsmouth Navy Yard after removal of bodies, 15 September 1939. Note the position of the bow planes and the condition of the fairwater. The damage caused by the salvage chains and pontoons is evident but hard to make out clearly. You can see how the bridge was crushed.
The SS Wilfred Sykes steaming down Lake Michigan in a heavy following stern sea created some great bow wave shots!
Sunday evening just after the sun had dropped below the horizon. Took a few more shots but this was my best i think. Also met up with Wizard CG from the Bristol group on flickr and was great to talk about photography. Wizard said i was one of the people who inspired him when he was learning, that is so nice to hear seeing the superb quality of the mans images.
The SS Rotterdam was a line-and-cruise ship, built in 1959. Today it is an hotel, convention center and museum ship in Rotterdam-Katendrecht.
On April 1, 150 years ago, all women and children on a liner bound for New York from Liverpool England perished in a horrendous shipwreck near here. There were local ceremonies and services this past weekend remembering the sad loss and the heroism of local folks who braved the cold and violent seas to rescue many. However, 562 on board died. This location is one of the two mass grave sites for the victims.

The alt history late 50s-early 60's SS soldiers (wehrbauer) for my Lebensraum farm Moc. Not political.
Right now I am taking apart the trench moc to build the base and grass layers for the farm. Its slow going, but it will get there.

Brunel’s S S Great Britain’s launched , in 1843 was the largest ship in the world. Also the first screw-propelled, ocean-going, iron-hulled steam ship – a revolutionary vessel and fore-runner of all modern shipping.
Voted the second Greatest Briton of all time, after Winston Churchill, Isambard Kingdom Brunel was one of the 19th century engineering giants. His achievements, still part of our everyday lives and landscape, are a lasting testament to his far-sighted genius.
Designed for the emerging trans-Atlantic luxury passenger trade, the ship carried 252 first and second class passengers and 130 crew. Brunel’s innovative approach to engineering marked the beginnings of international passenger travel and world communications.
First a luxury liner, then running aground in 1846, next carrying 15,000 emigrants to Australia, then converted to sail as a cargo ship and finally acting a floating warehouse. In the thirty years between her scuttling and recovery the elements had taken their toll on her iron hull. At the time of her rescue she was in a poor state, and her hull so corroded, it was feared she would not last another six months.
RACE AGAINST TIME
The dry dock in Bristol was a fitting location for the return of Brunel’s ss Great Britain. But it held a potentially threat, namely water. Despite its name the dry dock is far from dry. High levels of moisture in the air, and the rain, meant that once home the ship continued to corrode. Time was running out. Researchers from Cardiff University estimated that corrosion could destroy the ship within a few years. But they also found that the ship could survive if kept in a very dry environment, protected from humidity.

On this day in 1982 (May 25th) SS Atlantic Conveyor was hit by two Argentine air-launched AM39 Exocet missiles, killing 12 sailors.
She was a civilian ship that had been requisitioned by the Royal Navy to transport supplies, Harrier jets and helicopters to the Falkland Islands. She had already transferred the jets and one of the Chinook helicopters a few days before. However, when she was hit on the 25th she was still carrying three Chinook and six Wessex helicopters, all of which were destroyed.
The loss of the helicopters had huge logistical implications for the British Taskforce, meaning it had to rely much more heavily on ships to transport troops and forcing troops from 3 Para, 45 Commando and 42 Commando to march with full kit all the way from from Port San Carlos to Stanley.
The Argentine pilots who were flying Super Étendard jet fighters, initially thought they were attacking one of the British Taskforce's aircraft carriers, HMS Hermes and HMS Invincible, having seen a large 'blip' on their radar.
Atlantic Conveyor sank whilst under tow on 28 May 1982.
SS Great Britain is a museum ship and former passenger steamship that was advanced for her time. She was the largest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1854. She was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel

The acclaimed SS Dicky shipwreck, right in front of me. This was the headlining location of our fantastic recent Qld expedition – the trip had built up to this very shot and to be honest, I wasn’t disappointed!
Sure, I admit, I don’t think the photos taken from this morning were the best from the trip but sometimes, photography is more about the experience than then an award winning shot – and this was the perfect reminder!
The SS dicky really is a photographers utopian seascape location and would have to rank amongst one of the best in the country. Any search will reveal a magnitude of awe-inspiring images taken from this location, shot by some of the best photographers Australia has produced.
So it was our turn – all 6 of us. The sand was higher than some other shots had revealed, the sky didn’t turn out like other shots had shown but we couldn’t have had a better time!
I’ve now shot the SS Dicky shipwreck and that ain’t changing!

The Delta Queen is an American sternwheel steamboat. Historically, she has been used for cruising the major rivers that constitute the tributaries of the Mississippi River, particularly in the American South. She was docked in Chattanooga, Tennessee and served as a floating hotel until she was bought by the newly formed Delta Queen Steamboat Company. She was towed to Houma, Louisiana, in March 2015 to be refurbished to her original condition.
