The SS United States undergoing preparations for sinking as an artificial reef off Okaloosa County in Florida. The ship's funnels and radar mast have been removed for display at a future museum. Mobile, Alabama. (Nathanael Miller, 08 October 2025)
Wreck of SS Speke: Once the second largest three masted ship in the world, SS Speke ran aground on 22 of February 1906 near Kitty Miller Bay in Philip Island when its captain mistook a 'bush fire for a navigational signal'. One seaman drowned to death (while everyone else escaped unharmed) and the captain had his marine license suspended for one year. This wreck can be reached from the Kitty Miller Bay shore during low tide.

SS Great Britain is a museum ship and former passenger steamship, advanced for her time. She was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the Great Western Steamship Company's transatlantic service between Bristol and New York.
1) Find XTR cranks in a bin. Clean.
2) Chop off tabs and remove anodising.
3) Grind and dremel the tabs. Polish with wet and dry.

SS Great Britain is a museum ship and former passenger steamship that was advanced for her time. She was the largest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1853. She was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) for the Great Western Steamship Company's transatlantic service between Bristol and New York City. While other ships had been built of iron or equipped with a screw propeller, Great Britain was the first to combine these features in a large ocean-going ship making her one of the most technologically advanced ships for her time. She wa the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic Ocean, which she did in 1845, in 14 days.
When launched in 1843, Great Britain was by far the largest vessel ever built. However, her protracted construction time of six years and high cost led to her owners being forced out of business in 1846.
In 1852 she was sold for salvage and repaired, later carrying thousands of emigrants to Australia until being converted to all-sail in 1881.
Three years later she was retired to the Falkland Islands where she was used as a warehouse, quarantine ship and coal hulk until she was scuttled in 1937.
In 1970, Sir Jack Arnold Hayward, OBE (1923-2015) paid for the vessel to be raised and repaired enough for her to be towed north through the Atlantic back to the United Kingdom, and returned to the Bristol dry dock where she had been built 127 years earlier.
Manly ferry SS Binngarra launched in 1905. She was built with open railings around the wheelhouse which were clad with canvas on the sides and part of the front around 1912. They appear to have been replaced by solid timber railings in this photo, which would make the picture 1918-25.
