Capturing some of the first blooms of spring last weekend with my wife at the Raleigh Arboretum. I really like the play of light and shadow in this shot. I am excited that spring is finally here!

Sweet bird! thy bower is ever green,

Thy sky is ever clear;

Thou hast no sorrow in thy song,

No Winter in thy year!

O could I fly, I'd fly with thee!

We'd make, with joyful wing,

Our annual visit o'er the globe,

Companions of the Spring.

Catching the ice for for what little time is left for it. It was in the fifties today. It won't be long.

A wonderful landscape in the Spring.

The weather has been crazy warm around here. I had planted Spring bulbs in a pot and decorated it with Christmas decoration. But now they are blooming. Not the white Christmas I was looking for!

I hope everybody is well and is ready for the holiday season. Going to try to make my way around your photostreams and catch up.

Welcoming Spring in the valley.

First blooms from the plants I started about 3 years ago. It was worth the wait.

Having fun with my Helios Cyclop 85mm f/1.5 (analog of Helios 40-2). Not an easy "lens" to use, but challenges are fun. The Cyclop has no aperture blades, so it's always wide open at a fixed f/1.5. This was on a tripod, with remote shutter release at 10x live view, but there was the slightest bit of wind that kept things interesting, despite the high shutter speed.

Vintage Camera Lenses recently published an article on the quirky but rewarding "Cyclop."

hff and a wonderful long weekend...,-)

This picture shows some cherry blossoms short time after they opened. They are the messenger of spring arriving and symbolize hope and new life after the harsh winter. The picture was altered by adding some texture for the dreamy look one would expect watching the beautiful spectacle of thousands of cherry trees blooming.

Our shadows in the evening sunlight with last years fall leaves still visible and new growth coming up reminded me that spring was definitely here and clocks would have to be changed to Daylight Savings Time on Sunday, March 8th.

NB: Spring officially starts March 20th, late afternoon here or March 21st elsewhere, depending on time clock.
