Spending the afternoon along the banks of the mighty Mississippi River in good sun is always fun. On this day, CPKC threw a string of northbounds bound for St Paul in great afternoon light. Here we see CPKC train 261 making its way north with KCSM 4507 leading the way.

hey, so we did a massive photoshoot with my dear friend janie ( go see her flickr www.flickr.com/photos/janebleu ) !

Spending a little time on a snowy night in Fox Chase (Northeast Philadelphia)

All ways near even when so many miles apart.

After spending the night in Newton, IA, and upon packing up the car to head east, I turned on the scanner and immediately heard the IAIS 510 copying a warrant for the CBBI to head east out of town! Well, what's any good railfan to do in this situation but to give chase when there's good sunlight, and parallel roads?

As such, the final shot of this mini-chase was in the quaint, Iowa college town of Grinnell, where we see it crossing over the old M&StL. Recently, THAT line has been seeing all of the railfan attention due to the presence of a patched ex-SP GP60 on the Oskie local, but it turns out that the Iowa Interstate DOES still run trains through there.

Used to spend hours down the field making daisy chains. I enjoyed constructing one for this task. Enjoy #relax

spend a great morning walking in the Mormal Forest in the north of France where I liked the contrast of the golden leaves on the dark wood of the trees.

After spending several days shooting around the Canadian Rockies and Abraham Lake we were down to our last evening before heading home. Having already some great weather conditions and light the past few shoots, I was pleased with my photo haul. However, the partly cloudy skies all afternoon set the stage for a potential last hurrah.

Following the light and the ice conditions, David, Alan, and I ended up at the southern end of the lake. This windless afternoon temperature felt much warmer than the frigid -25C degree morning. I ultimately settled on a small area that offered multiple compositions with different groups of bubbles. The particular was my favorite: it had different shapes and sizes as well as the stacked pancake bubbles.

Although the light never exploded in full out burn as we had hoped, the side lighting sunset did provide some beautiful pastel colors in the clouds and the mountains tips. It was quite the present to conclude our Canadian Rockies adventure.

Don’t you just love the English Summer, especially when you get the chance to spend a day with friends, buses and the lovely warm sunshine. Myself and Mark joined Terry, Woody & Graeme (fellow Flickrite) at junction 13 on the M5 northbound (Stroud) on board Woody’s Midland Red S23.

The S23 was on its way up to Wythall (BMMO Museum), for Kevin (Brush Painter) to work his magic and put her back to “As Delivered” condition. We were shown some wonderful hospitality by the chaps at Wythall and can’t thank them enough for making us feel so welcome this afternoon. We even got to walk around the workshops, sheds and were given a guided tour by the very knowledgable Maurice.

The S23 wasn’t the only reason for going to Wythall, as the Devon & Dorset Group had been up three weks earlier with Terry’s Devon General LHS, and were needing to go up and pick her up after receiving its Brush Paint!

The LHS looks FANTASTIC, and I cannot praise Kevin at Wythall enough for the work he does, well they all do!!!!!

We are back up to Wythall in two weeks time, when we bring Mark’s Metrobus down from Reliance Bus Works. We have been kindly invited into Wythall with the bus and the group for an afternoon tea stop!

I shall post some pics of the S23 once she has been done, as the plan is to drop Woody’s Duple bodied Leopard off at Wythall when we pick up the S23, and when the Leopard has been finished, My Tiger will be going up to be vinyled into “National Express Venetian” livery!

Having to spend some time in Milan for work, I took the chance to bring my camera and spend my free time looking for new strangers.

After a failed approach with an American lady, I noticed the wonderful Yulia walking around the Duomo area. Yulia comes from Russia and is living and working in Milan as a model. Her Italian is fluent and dealing with her was such a pleasure. After a few test shots, Yulia re-arranged her hair and gave me some amazing expressions. During the set, we stopped some random passengers to help us with the reflector: that was fun:)

Thank you Yulia, I hope you like the result

I spend my life buying books I barely have time to read. I used to read to take me away from my current life, stealing moments whenever I could, choosing to sit alone with a book during work lunches instead of joining in the chatter with my colleagues, burying my head in a book whenever I travelled and always before bed. These days I work so much and am probably way too addicted to reading things on the internet to spend as much time with my nose in a book. Which is a shame, as I am still eternally attracted to bookshops, especially for vintage books. I buy books every week! Even today I bought 5!! I think I should make the effort to grab a large, old, smelly tome and hide away inside it for a while...

Spends its summers in Alaska, Canada and parts of the Western US. In the Winter however, the Orange-crowned Warbler heads for Mexico and Southeastern parts of the US. I love these friendly little guys and they are such a welcome sight to see each year here in Southeast Texas both in the woods and at my feeders.

A time when we can all enjoy what we love to do, and there is no fear. This photograph was taken when the pandemic was in it's infancy and the public was unsure of their limitations. We were asked to social distance and people were rebelling.

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance

For the break that will make it ok

There's always some reason to feel not good enough

And it's hard at the end of the day

I need some distraction oh beautiful release

Memories seep from my veins

They may be empty and weightless and maybe

I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of an Angel fly away from here

From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear

You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie

You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn

There's vultures and thieves at your back

The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies

That you make up for all that you lack

It don't make no difference, escaping one last time

It's easier to believe

In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness

That brings me to my knees

In the arms of an Angel far away from here

From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear

You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie

In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

I generally spend a lot of time photographing in our Staffordshire garden. Currently, it's even more so! I do a circuit of the whole garden every hour or so and I've found some interesting invertebrates. Today it was first conopid fly of the year.

These flies parasitise various bees and wasps. They grapple with them and inject in egg into the host bee/wasp abdomen. The fly larva then develops inside the host. This activity has caused them to be called bee-grabber or wasp-grabber flies. They are also known as thick-headed flies.

I'm not too good with flies but I think that this may be one of the Myopa species. It's a focus-stacked shot. This flies are generally quite tolerant and this one allowed me to cut the stem it was on and position it in a more convenient place.

Spending two weeks there for my brothers weeding :)

Spending some warm family time with our boys and their lovely partners. Fortune truly graces me.

After spending most of the day (April 27) in the Waterpoocket Fold and after hiking Muley Twist Canyon we drove Utah highway 12 to near Upper Calf Creek Waterfalls trailhead where we spent the night at an unimproved campsite on BLM property a short distance off of the highway.

Tuesday April 28 Steve and I got an early start for Upper Calf Creek Waterfalls trailhead. I left my vehicle at camp and road with Steve the short distance to the trailhead. The hike was short and pleasant in the cool morning air. The light was poor for waterfall photographs, but there were some nice wildflower and an an unexpected pair of cinnamon teal. By the time we climbed the final stretch back to the trailhead the air temperature was much warmer than when we started down the trail to the waterfalls. Good that we got an early start.

After hiking to the Upper Calf Creek waterfalls we drove to Escalante, but not before finding that my battery was did. After jumpstarting my vehicle we drove to Escalente. Steve knew of a auto repair shop so I had my battery tested and also had a slow leak in a tire repaired. The battery was fine. One hour and $22 latter I was on the road. I can't get this kind of service in my home town. Wish I could remember the name of the repair shop.

At that point Steve and I went our separate ways. He started driving back to his home in Washington. Before taking off Steve shared some great places that I should visit.

I headed for the Lower Calf Creek Trail and hiked to Lower Calf Creek Falls.

After spending a morning being beguiled by the gorgeous details in the woods, the moisture hanging in the mosses, the rich red soil and softly decaying stumps, it was almost shocking to emerge into this scene. The late morning light was just hanging in the air between the banks, lighting up the cold December water as it swept over the canyon's rocks. I love this place.

After spending an hour out by the Connecticut River I started home and planned to hop off the Pike in Palmer for breakfast. A quick check revealed Q264 was bearing down on town so I figured I'd try for one grab shot. As I headed toward my favorite spot at old MP 83 I heard them call the signal as they rounded the curve approaching the NECR diamond. I had just enough time to pull and hop out with my truck still running and the door open to grab this three way meet shot.

Q264 (Buffalo to East Brookfield auto racks) has two units on the head end for a change as it passes the pair of geeps on L012 (old B740 the West Springfield to Palmer local turn) sitting in the yard and tbe DP locomotive on the rear of Q436 (Selkirk to Worcester manifest) the controlled siding while they make their set out.

Thirty seconds and three trains on the old Boston and Albany. I'll take it!

After spending an hour meandering around LaGrange, I decided to head back to the parking lot and go to a local forest preserve. There's a small shopping arcade that I hadn't walked through in almost 15 years, since I was in high school. Normally I'm rushing from one place to the next and I decided to enjoy this moment. As I leisurely entered the arcade, a breeze that swept across the parking lot. I could hear its approach, set my exposure, and dialed in the aperture. The fabric hanging from the flower shop's awning undulated, giving away the shape of the wind, and I seized the light.

Intentions were to spend two nights in Badlands NP in South

Dakota photographing the Perseid meteor shower, then process those images and post to Flickr shortly afterward. However, my old laptop and a change in the weather forecast had other plans for this schedule.

This shot was taken from the Door Trail off of the Northeast Entrance Road, and in the past, I would not use frames when cars were driving in at night, but the lighting added some dimension to the shot, and I decided to include it this time.

Even though things didn't go as planned it was an excellent road trip overall and I was able to meet up with a Flickr friend that lives nearby. Everything Works Out In The End!

I am having a "me" day. I'm not doing anything today unless I want to. And if that means that I'm going to tuck myself into the couch and watch Aladdin or Sword in the Stone, then that's what I'll do! This is both inspired by and dedicated to my dear friend Devin who is also a huge Disney "nerd". Although he is one step above since he actually works at Disneyland, I have a feeling that if we lived in the same city we'd be pretty good friends!

Today I went for a fantastic 40km bike ride on a brand new trail between my town and the next one, it's on a reclaimed train route and it was just a perfect way to spend the afternoon, the trail was bustling with happy couples, kids on rollerblades, even a few horses. I love those kinds of rides!

Hope you all get a chance to have a "you" day soon!

p.s. the ears are from my very first set of Mickey ears back when we went on a family trip to Disneyland when I was 8

I spend a lot of time in Photoshop obscuring clouds and skies, especially in architectural photos as I find they can be distracting. Here however the sky is the photo. This was taken near the end of daylight hours from Box Hill, one of the higher view points in Surrey. The light suddenly started to shift from dark to light and back again as these monster clouds rolled across the landscape. It was quite magical. As you'd expect it didn't last long but I managed to squeeze off 15 or 20 shots.

I have spend 3 wonderful days with my mom in Noordwijk. She needed a short trip and I was happy to join her. I was so glad we had a glorious sunset on one of our nights, and that I could share it with her.

After spending all night at BNSF's Murray Yard and the first half of the day trying to get through BNSF's Argentine Yard to add a third unit, the H-SIOBAR4-23A with the Warbonnet Dash 9 on the point is finally making some progress heading west out of town as it rolls through Edgerton on Main Track 2 of the BNSF Emporia Sub. 4/25/21.

Spending a lot of time taking b&w pictures this week….

Hazie's Eyemech has been acting up ever since my Trip to Europe so I decided to open her tonight, Turns out its something that only Different lids can fix >__< And I love her Lids so Aww well.

Meanwhile Cute Adorable Little Sutton had a bit of a tough Journey and her hair was a bit loose lol so I fixed that and her sticky eyes which also I think were due to rough Travels. Tomorrow they will be Looking all Good <3

After spending the best part of the morning at Upper Cataract Falls, I went over to Lower Cataract Falls which is just a few minute drive downstream. A resevoir downstream was filled so high that instead of being an 18' waterfall, it was just about 2'. That, combined with the lighing becoming less interesting later in the morning, and all the fishermen that were there made this a more difficult place to get good shots. So after this photo, I called it a day and headed home.

Spending some time on the couch today after a cortisone shot in the foot, so photography wasn't really my priority. Fortunately, my knight in shining armor was still sitting out, so I took a bit of an abstract shadow.

Passa o tempo no vagar dos dias,

A divagar, não sei o que faça!

Haja ou não haja, tudo manias,

Ir?! Galgar?! Meu sustento!

Alimento dos minutos do desejar.

After spending some time making long exposure shots of the cube houses, I felt like taking some details. I wanted to respect the cubist form, the reason I made square shots of it. While I was processing this series, I suddenly started thinking of The Beatles. We all know that track named 'Yellow Submarine'. Isn't it part of our collective memory. I just couldn't get that song out of my head.

A gorgeous view last week of the tea house at Suirakuen Garden in Shirakawa City, Fukushima.

After spending most of the day trying to leave BNSF's Murray Yard in town, BNSF train L-HLA6921-15I is finally moving south on the BNSF Ft. Scott Sub as it grinds up the hill at Merriam on Main Track 1. They once again have the former BN SD60M pair, and with only a few hour left to work, all they'll do today is make a head end setout at Lenexa and move on down to Moss Siding to tie down, leaving their Spring Hill industry work for tomorrow. 8/15/24.

Spending the evening capturing these stunning Loons at my local trout pond was truly amazing! I felt so lucky when they swam closer and I took some of my best Loon photos yet!
