Something a bit different - while flying from Belfast to Leeds-Bradford last Sunday, I was looking out the window to my left when I noticed a strange light effect on the clouds. It looked like the sun's rays were all converging on a particular spot. Then, as I looked more closely, I saw the shadow of the airplane enclosed in a perfect, multi-coloured circle - a Brocken spectre!
I'd heard of Brocken spectres before but this was the first time I'd ever seen one. It's a kind of optical illusion, most frequently seen on mountains (it's named after a mountain peak in Germany that was prone to them). In the mountain variety a magnified shadow of a person is cast on mist or clouds, often within a circle, just like this.
I scrambled to get some pictures on my phone. I managed a couple of clear-ish ones, then the spectre vanished - as spectres do. But a few minutes later it reappeared briefly, on a different area of cloud. I grabbed one more photograph (the last one), then it was gone forever. Quite something to witness! I would dearly love to see one on a mountain sometime - they look particularly eerie and surreal.

I was out on the town visiting some of the old buildings in the old part of downtown Oklahoma City when I came across this building. It had been deserted for a long time as they had removed the door handles and bolted the doors shut. I loved the way the lobby look so I cleaned the dust off the glass as best I could and took a snap shot.
I didn't discover that I caught something until I got home and downloaded it. Yes folks, this is how it came out, I did not use Photoshop or anything. Now I know that it is a reflection from the glass but it sure does look cool. One of those accidents that works out good! Hey I never said I was a photographer, I just own a camera like the man said!
Cant say ive ever seen a good defined Brocken Spectre of myself, I nearly got one last year from Hitter Hill looking over to Parkhouse, so this is defiantly my best to-date.

I had this idea after seeing the new Monster figs and made sure to do it after finding them yesterday. I tried to edit the yellow, but it didn't really work so I just left it. :P
Here ia a capture of The optical effect known as a Brocken or Mountain Spectre, Usually only seen at high elevations or from Aircraft. The effect is the result of Sun position and density of The mist..If the conditions are just right The effect is a magnified Shadow of the observer surrounded by a Solar Glory. Captured at Sunrise 8.7.24 . with velvia 50.

Equipped with a wide laser beam, SPECTREs are efficient at scorching large area and taking down bigger targets. They are often seen rolling, creating hard to avoid laser spirals, increasing their chance at hitting nimble aircrafts.

The frustration of working directly in front of a big waterfall is often worth the effort. The workflow here with filters fitted involved constant wiping and changing and metering and wiping and swearing and wiping and metering and finally an exposure.

SPECTRE IDOLS 'SIGNATURE POSE & STYLE' Challenge
I wanted to show myself as I am, not symbolic but real, wearing favourite items from my inventory, put together my way. Fashion and styling are an endless game of dress up for me, and I dress as the mood takes me. At core, I am bohemian with an underlying darker edge. I won't follow convention, but I am not self-conscious enough to claim 'rebel'. I happily follow the beat of my own (pagan) drum. My outfit reflects my inner complexity, which somehow manages to work coherently.
My pose, like me, is informal but about to act, as I am rarely still. It also shows my internal strength, and a little of my inner 'f*** you', which I access when needed. My favourite place is The Library at Elysion. It resonates with me - gloriously boho, arty, eclectic, sensual, a little dark and mysterious and filled with endless fascinating things.
