i think the next 5 days will only be happy photos. i am so excited to go back home and relax. the stress of school and everything around me is daunting. need to let loose. although some of my stress will be coming along with me (my grandparents) ill be happy to leave and take a break. and be in MY OWN house :]
ill be scanning some images from my last photo assignment which was FUN! saran wrapping friends is a great idea. i also was told my photo final is on fairytales. i chose alice because i've always loved her and her story. i used to tell myself i'd be alice at disneyland. maybe one day...
i hope you are all having a stress free afternoon. if not. sit down. and do so.

it definitely looks like its snowing over here in ash-y southern california. if you step outside, it looks like a sunset and little ash flakes are falling all over the place. i woke up in the middle of the night freaked out because my room smelt like smoke. i think i have a sensitive nose because in order for me to get back to sleep, i had to cover my mouth in my sheets like a gas mask. haha.
the sheet around me is my filter for air. hehe
i feel terrible for all the families who have lost their home. i was worried i'd be evacuated, but thankfully it went east. sorry eastern side!

SP 8312 leads a trio of UP units on Conrail train PIHO at East Palestine, OH on April 20, 1991. My apartment in Beaver Falls overlooked Conrail's Fort Wayne Line, and when something interesting went by Westbound, I could simply drive up the hill to Chippewa and then jog over to East Palestine with plenty of time to spare while the train fought the grade out of the Beaver Valley.

Maybe P. stercorarius, but don't know for sure! A gorgeous and quite large Staphy.
It was rather shy, as it dived into the vegetation after this grab shot...
Bavay - Parc de l'Avesnois - France
The former SP Lompoc and White Hills branches come off of the Coast Line at Surf and are only a total of 14 miles combined. But in that 14 miles, they feature surfside views, lush California vegetable fields, down the street operation on Laurel Ave and N A Street in Lompoc, and a 3% grade where they use an old SP caboose as a shoving platform to back up N A Street. And they do it all at less than 10 mph so you can see it all in just a couple of hours. The downside is that it only happens on Thursday mornings as the only customer is served just once a week on Thursday mornings.
The customer is a diatomaceous earth mine now owned by Celite Corp that has been at the end of the White Hills branch since they negotiated to have the branch built in the 1920’s. The mine is on the other side of the hills at the back of this view. The local is ready to leave Guadalupe as soon as the morning southbound Amtrak Surfliner #774 clears ahead of them.
When the local reachs the end of the Lompoc branch at the end of Laurel Ave, they reverse and couple up to a beat up old SP bay window caboose that is left on the Whie Hills branch for them to use as a shoving platform. Here they are at the beginning of the other street running in Lompoc. This is N A St. The tracks curve off of the street at the bottom of the hill about 1/4 mile away. Then they go up and around the hill to the mine.
