Such gorgeous beetles! Shame that the 2 species, cyanea and caerulea can only be separated by the shape of the claw! However, cyanea is the more common of the two, so that's no doubt what this one is!

Scorpionfly from the Order Mecoptera, Family Bittacidae in our garden.

 

The male Scorpionfly has caught a caterpillar to entice a female and will give the gift after mating is complete.

 

While they have a common name of Scorpionfly they are not flies as they have 4 wings instead of two.
