A Birthday Image for "Shock of the New/ Award Tree" groups' Thea, Dec 11.
Two Pano-Sabotaged images layered over one main Pano image. Varying degrees of translucency, placement and size are used like oil painting "glazes" to create a very textured and painterly effect.
A pure untouched copy of the original image appears on the upper right edge. This is a quiet element that I like to add so that original piece can be seen along with the manipulations of it. This is intended to provide a kind of simultaneity of different times and conditions, multiple states of the same place so that we have several views of the same 'event' from many points of view, temporally, spacially and chromatically.
So, in a sense, my images are partial "shots" of a wider field that goes beyond the immediately visible frame. They are, as well, not the static 'moment' in time icons of pre-Manet Art. They are points of moments, spaces within a continually shifting system or living "PROCESS".
Original Pano-Sabotage shots taken in May and July 2018 and the final image created Nov. 25, 2018.

Somehow, Candor must have known that Tuesday was to be the only day where we had some semblance of nice weather at the seaside. As you can see, he made every second of every sun ray count...
Somehow the beautiful blossoms are still hanging on for dear life. Rain, high winds... sleet.... springtime in this part of the world.
Ornamental Crabapple Blossoms.
And then somehow our path last Sunday led us back to Luray and the Hawksbill Greenway. We've been coming here for almost 3 years, not every week but maybe once a month in fine weather and this was the very first time we have seen any babies! She actually had 5 and you can see the back end of one just behind it's sibling, but that fifth one... it never would stay with the group! I watched them go down the hill to the creek, cross it and go out in the grasses on the other side and it never did stay with the group. Poor Mama Mallard! Today we are off on a different sort of adventure and two other friends will be joining us. I think no back roads will be involved, but there is the promise of a ferry ride which could prove interesting. Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
Somehow a typical South African cottage. The gable is reminiscent of Dutch architecture which is very prevalent in the Cape. It was built in 1888 which is old for South Africa. And yes I know they did not have cable in 1888. This was taken spontaneously so no tripod to ward off the puffadders but handheld while I carefully traipsed up the hill in my crocs. Must have been mad.
Somehow lately I have been on a nostalgic trip and revisited many older songs with a deeper message or story. The Smiths are maybe not so well known, but I love their songs. This one is probably the most known, mainly because a part of this song was used in the TV series charmed. But when you listen to the whole song, you realize how wrong the picture is you had of this song back when you saw it. In the end.. we all just wanna be loved, right?
I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular
You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way?
I am human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does
I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular
You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way?
I am human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does
There's a club if you'd like to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home and you cry
And you want to die
When you say it's gonna happen now
When exactly do you mean?
See I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone
You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way?
I am human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

"...Follow, follow, follow, follow me
I be living out a prophecy, ay..."
Somehow, this wall background showed off the beauty of tulips to good effect.
Who knew?
I guess it is because the wall is a regularly structured uniform surface in a contrasting color,
but not a blank surface. There is just enough structure and bland-but-deep, warm color
for us to know it isa "nice" wall. However, there is not enough to the wall to drag our attention away
from either the tulips or the little volunteer primulas and mini geese flowers in the lawn.
These latter pretty little things in the foreground shield us from having to see that
the beautiful tulips are standing in plain old dirt. 😎

Do you know that when you open your eyes wide to become more alert ... Somehow like this, or like that, or like that... or...
I don't know...
Somehow, these guys can get around even though they look like they're hardly moving. Green-winged Teal, Anas carolinensis
and small hands stole into each other as we sat looking at our fire-works with a sense that independence was a fine thing to declare :-)

Somehow I have managed to miss the Sage Thrasher on previous trips out West. This time, I decided to make an effort to find one.
On my way to Utah, I noticed some STs were spotted at the Bitter Creek Rest Stop on I-80 west of Cheyenne, WY. As soon as I parked I saw a sage thrasher, then another and then another. I counted eight all posing variously both on the fence that separated the parking and dog walking area from the a vast expanse of sage brush as well as on the desert vegetation itself.
For the next five weeks, I saw only two more sage thrashers: one through a bush that quickly flew away; another across a grassy plain with horrendous heat shimmer.
We have to do our research before going out to look for a bird, but we also need luck.
Somehow the reflections last night in Charles River were rather extreme. I've never experienced anything quite like it.
somehow this turkey's headdress reminds me of an old time knitted winter stocking cap
"A turkey does not have a comb on the top of its head. Instead, it has a fleshy growth from the base of the beak known as the snood. The snood is longer in males and hangs down over the male turkey's beak. A turkey has a wattle under its beak and fleshy growths on the head and neck called caruncles."
No matter what or how you celebrate, take the time to enjoy the people that matter and the places that fill your passions!!
My warmest wishes to you all, a wonderful group of flickr friends that have continued to inspire my life through your own creative force behind the lens.. good cheer and may the things that are most important fill our lives with hope and purpose -risa
Somehow, not only for Christmas, But all the long year through, The joy that you give to others, Is the joy that comes back to you. And the more you spend in blessing, The poor and lonely and sad, The more of your heart's possessing, Returns to you glad.
The gate leading into our garden and through the back door for a bit of Christmas spirit and fun. Welcome one and all.

Somehow, crossing sketchy bridges in the rain to start a tour has become a thing for us. The last one turned out well, so maybe this will too. Maybe.
Capilano Suspension Bridge in Victoria BC.
Somehow, people rarely seem to look at the time a photo was taken (even though Flickr shows it rather prominently now). So I thought it might be best to post all the photos of my sheep before the shearing at once. Usually I post with a delay of up to 2 months.
"It's not always rainbows and butterflies. It's compromise that moves us along. My heart is full and my door's always open... you can come anytime you want... I've had you so many times but somehow I want more..."
Somehow this photo got lost in my file and i forgot to post it.
The last day on my recent trip to Belgium we stopped at Antwerpen.
The cathedral is in very nice condition and currently in service. There are the usual marble and wood statues.

Somehow, but I stay in the shadows for a while...

Somehow she turned out even smaller than Darla....
Very happy with her little embroidered nose, even though I had to pull out several of the stitches and re-do them. If you are off a micro millimetre it shows.... and, I just can't leave it.
Putting fluff and needles away now and getting out some Christmas crafting boxes ...who knows what's next....
Needle felted string jointed miniature bears. Darla is a full 2 1/4 inches from top of head to table when seated. Little Sage is barely 2 1/8th inches ....Sage is made from hand dyed Romney wool from New Zealand and Darla is natural white Romney wool ...
Somehow the b turns into a P when you pronounce Kakabeka (Ka-ka-PEE-ka) lol.
Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, Canada.
Somehow or other, whilst this one has been worked for peat extraction in parts a deal of it has survived the agricultural devastation that has removed similar from the surrounding lands which are drained and bright green
Somehow it is appeared to be "childish" weekend in my stream;-) Back to normal tomorrow:-)

Somehow the song "I can see for Miles" by the Who popped into my head. This was taken from the Devil's Knob Overlook at Wintergreen Resort. We wanted to get to this area via the Blue Ridge Parkway but both that and Skyline Drive were closed last Sunday. I think there were ice issues. Not to worry though as we found this little old, bumpy dirt road that got us where we wanted to be! I thought the road in the distance was the Blue Ridge Parkway but now I realize that road would have been behind and above where we were
Something else about this photo: there are jet trails. Haven't seen much of them since the Covid-thing started. Another fun, beautiful day out and about!
Starting a new set today: autumn leaves that fell. What can a person do with leaves on the ground? Well, maybe more than what you'll see from me over the next few days, but you may find my offerings interesting.
As for this image, I didn't touch a thing. Somehow when I try to arrange a still life in nature, it never works: I can't duplicate the random chaos or patterns-within-chaos that occur naturally. My concoctions are always a little too perfect and artful, and I never like the results. I learned a long time ago to just go with what I find, the only changes being to occasionally remove a twig or use my hat to bend grasses away and out of the frame while I make the shot.
A friend sent me this quote recently and I think it applies not only to the coming series but to all creative endeavours...
Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
