The smart marque began as a collaboration between Volkswagen and the Swiss watch brand Swatch. After VW pulled out from the project, Daimler-Benz stepped in to provide the vehicle architecture.
The first smart brand car was launched in 1998. The car was a short two-seat city car. The car was known as the Smart City Coupe and Smart City Cabriolet.
A second line was added in 2003 the Smart Roadster (R452) shown, and the Smart Roadster Coupe (C452). The two shared the basic architecture and design, differing primarily in the Roadster having a flat luggage/engine lid behind the rollbar, while the Roadster Coupe had a glass hatch section in the place. Both cars had a removable 'targa' panel over the two occupants, spanning the windscreen and the rollbar.
The Roadster and Roadster Coupe also shared many mechanical systems with the Smart city car (to be renamed Smart Four-Two in 2004), including the engine/transmission systems and suspension. The Smart Roadster and Roadster Coupe had a much lower set 'Tridion' safety cell.
For such an appealing compact sportscar, the Smart Roadster had a short lifespan, being removed from market at the end of 2005.

Woodstones Coaches' BU16 UWW and BV17 CME are seen parked on Church Green West, outside St Stephen's Church. On the LED of both is "School Children," but seeing as there was none around I took the photo. Both wear the rather smart livery of the Kidderminster based operator. BV17CME was new in March 2017 to Woodstones and BU16UWW was new a year earlier in 2016 to the smart operator. The two coaches are Volvo B8R/Plaxton Leopard vehicles.

Yet another selective coloring from Italy, a blue Smart this time.
Have a fabulous weekend everyone.
Seen still looking very smart and tidy is one of Dudley's coaches. Being a smaller operator, they take pride in their fleet, whether they're on their excursions or schools (when I went to school on their coaches, I was always happy with their fleet as they are quite interesting).
Dudley's Coaches' S577 KJF is seen dropping passengers off on the Kinwarton Road, just before School Road while spending the day operating the free shuttle service for the Alcester food festival. Dudleys always operate this, and as I had spare time before work, I decided to drive to their Park & Ride site and give the service a go. I was rather impressed again, but it was busy (especially compared to my old school run which only had about 10 people on at most...) S577KJF was new to Fowler Coaches and is a Volvo B10M-62/Plaxton Excalibur. It carries the name "The Flyford Connection II."
Johnsons Coaches' YY16 YLL is seen departing Redditch Bus Station with a 64 towards Woodrow North. The 64 was taken over from Diamond Buses (Rotala PLC), when the contract renewed. Diamond didn't do a very good job with the route, with unreliable buses. They interworked it with the 47/48 (short duty). However, Johnsons now interwork it with their 150 (Birmingham-Redditch) and 350 (Worcester-Redditch). YY16YLL was "new" in June 2016 and entered service without the smart excelbus branding. It is an Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro 200. The Enviro200 is one of a growing number of the vehicle types within the Johnsons fleet. Johnsons are based in Henley-in-Arden.
Aintree Coachline's KX51 CTK (106) is seen parked in the Ellesmere Port Bus Station having formed a 7 from Rivacre Valley. It would then go on to go towards Great Sutton. KX51CTK was new in October 2001 to Midland Red South (Stagecoach Midlands), as their 612. This later became their 47012. While with Stagecoach in Warwickshire it was also rather smart, like it is now with Aintree.

These are the overall new ultracap, smart hybrids for route H12, yet to enter service on the allocated route though.

To be honest, I think these cars really aren't that smart at all. When I found out that they really are nothing more than the Swatch of cars, my point was solidified. Nonetheless, I still think they're worth making a great Lego model out of.
This is a snapshot of the new smart fortwo (453). I like the light in this black and white picture.

Front suspension - MacPherson, rear - semi-independent type deDion. In addition to the suspension, of course, the front steering (with castor), the rear drive on the traditional 3-cylinder engine, located behind the rear axle. The model opens the side doors and the rear door.
In the cabin, a soft steering wheel, an internal rearview mirror, a watch in the depth of the torpedo. The passenger seat folds to form an armrest.
Diamond's YJ07 PAO (30412) is seen departing West Bromwich Bus Station with a 4H towards Hayley Green. It wears the smart new branding for the 4/4H (Walsall-West Brom 4/4H - Halesowen 4H - Hayley Green). This branding is in the same style as used on the 25 Branded Urban 2 at Kidderminster. YJ07PAO was new in April 2007 to Transdev Blazefield's Lancashire United operation (before being rebranded in 2016 to the Blackburn Bus Company), as their 1820. While with Transdev, it wore branding for the Spot On services. It is a Volvo B7RLE/Wright Eclipse Urban.
Alle drei EQ Smart-Modelle laufen bis auf Weiteres im französischen Hambach vom Band, doch alle künftigen Smart werden im chinesischen Ningbo gebaut, einer Metropole etwa 150 Kilometer von Shanghai entfernt. Until further notice, all three EQ Smart models will roll off the assembly line in Hambach, France, but all future Smarts will be built in Ningbo, China, a metropolis around 150 kilometers from Shanghai. There, Mercedes and Geely founded the 50:50 company Smart Automobile Co. Ltd, which exclusively builds electric cars. The first vehicle in this new partnership will be an additional Smart model in 2022.
