Single exposure of the 2024 Solar Eclipse. Hadn’t planned for this shot, but by chance the heavy cloud cover served as a sufficient filter, with just enough of a break very near maximum partial eclipse. Glad for my tilt screen and long slow light zoom lens, which let me look down while pointing at the sky. Many thanks to Ms Patty, who recognized the opportunity and got similar quality with much less effort on her phone. 🙏

A cool and misty Thursday finds a rare early-running Y222 sprinting toward Worthington at Cooke Road with 4 cars for Anheuser-Busch. With CSX unfortunately working to modernize this segment of the ex-Big 4 Burt Line, going out and shooting the ancient NYC type Gs was a necessity despite the weather, but the "Beer Run" was a total surprise and made running around in the rain worth while.
We had several days of rain here last week in Vancouver. Then last Sunday the sun broke out, leaving many autumn leaves on the ground with water droplets. My wife picked up this guy and held it up towards the sun. I had to grab a photo of it, and this is the end result.
After standing and waiting for sunrise along the shore of Wedge Pond in Kananaskis, Alberta with several other photographers, I eventually gave up as the morning fog was so thick that it almost totally obscured the mountains. Disappointed, I hiked back up to my car and began to unload my gear. Within seconds of unloading, the fog began to lift. I ended up loving the views from the upper ridge of the pond with the distant snow-capped mountains so much that I never made my way back to the shoreline, maybe next time.

I think I've found myself another new favourite location along the coast of the Fleurieu peninsula. I've not seen anyone save for a few fishermen along the beaches in the morning down here and it's only accessable by dirt road. Dawn this morning blazed away for 10 minutes gave scenes like this right next to the images of blowing sands I posted last week. I wonder what Port Willunga would have looked like this morning too.
Horace Walpole, the popular English writer and politician, in 1754, was enamored with a Persian fairy tale about princes who regularly made fortunate discoveries. He coined the phrase Serendipity, generally associated with the result of people finding something really favorable when they were not looking for it.
The majority of unique wildlife shots my wife and I are privileged to share come from totally unexpected observations that come without warning.
A couple of days ago, we were nearing the end of our morning wildlife trip after not seeing a whole lot of either birds or animals during this slack season, when both migration and the opening of various hunting seasons contribute to a scarcity of visible wildlife. We were headed back to town on a busy county paved road and probably a little fatigued after several hours of studying the countryside.
About two miles from town, I spotted a ball of red fur on a sloping, manicured lawn leading down to the road. I swerved to the shoulder, hoping I did not hit the mailbox protruding from a neighbor's driveway. In the space of about 10 seconds before the young fox took off, I was able to get several shots off.
This cub would have been born this spring and is just now learning to do things on his own.
It will soon face a great challenge as winter sets in and threatens its very existence. During the winter, it will adapt to the cold by often curling into a ball and using its bushy tail as insulation. In the midst of storms and bitter cold, it will use a den to help it survive.
Less than half of young foxes will survive their first year, and if they do, their life in the wild typically lasts only several years.

I almost missed this little bird creeping up a tree near where I was sitting. There were lots of other birds in nearby bushes and trees, and they were noisily chatting to each other. But the Brown Creeper is a master of disappearing into its background and is also very quiet. I managed to get a quick shot before it disappeared around the tree trunk.
And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

I think it's just absolutely strange that it's almost 2013!
Especially when I think of the things that made 2012 different from the other years. At the beginning of 2012, I was actually pretty scared that I would not be able to make 2012 "a good year", just because I'm not somebody who can deal with change. I knew that a lot of things would change at my school and I was actually sure that this would not be my school year, depending on grades and stuff. I also worried I would not be able to keep up with my friends and I was especially sad because I knew that I would not see my best friend for an entire year. Today I can honestly say that this is my best school year so far, all these changes at my school were actually pretty good for me. My problem is just that I'm a very ambitious person and I was studying so much, that I basically stopped photography. But today I saw this gorgeous sunset and I just took my camera and my tripod and went out to finally take photos again. So, even if this is not my best photo, it means something to me.
And I also want to say thank you for your support, and every comment, every fave and every view! :)
(Oh and today is my best friend's birthday, and psst if you're reading this: happy birthday again <3 i miss you!!)
What I’ve learned from 2020 ... life definitely knows how to f... you over ! But just as things could be better they also could be worse. Be thankful they are not worse.
Some time spent with the fantastic team from Coda Falconry in Suffolk heathland. Despite some challenging light conditions, the striking colours of this captive Red Kite contrasted nicely with the wash of heather in the late afternoon sun.
I was hiking down this steep slope in the dark well before sunrise hoping to find something magical. And when I saw this I was reminded of the words " When you believe in magic, you begin to see it everywhere".
( image has been focus stacked and exposure blended for dynamic range and depth of field. Not a composite)
On my way to sunrise shoots at 0-dark thirty I have passed by this site numerous times without a glance. I was running a bit late this morning so it was well lit as I passed and drew my attention. A quick u-turn and now I have a new sunrise spot much closer.
meeeeeee omg ew.
This is as golden hour-y as it can possibly get in my garden
I wouldn't feel so self-conscious about this if it weren't for the fact that I know some of my friends look at my flickr but that's why I got a tripod so I need to get over myself
If I look short that's because I am :)
If you look close you can see the remote in my hand ooops

First light shining down on Bryce Canyon was exhilarating! I took a walk along the rim of the canyon and I can't even describe the emotions I felt seeing the beauty of the first light touching the canyon and lighting it up in full spendor.
I'm not sure what to do about the lens flare. I like it in this image, but I'd like to know how to prevent it in future times. Any suggestions?
I titled this picture with such a word cuz i took this pic while i was running back... halted for say a second, clicked and started running again :)
Looking for birds upon the trees in the gardens of the imperial buildings of Gondar, my attention was called by this young student reading leant against the foot of a big tree in the shadow. It was as a vision: a future of peace and prosperity for Africa.
An Happy Easter to all of you!
