There are two separate images here of the Ruddy Turnstones that I photographed in winter plumage. These birds were happily mingling with the sun bathers in Puerto Morelos Mexico. I wanted to capture the beauty of the feather patterns both in a profile and an in-flight shot. A summer plumage shot would have been more spectacular since this bird molts into a very dramatic looking bird. It breed's in the high arctic so I'm not likely going to get that shot unless I can catch it during migration.
I was in Banff, Alberta, Canada during the summer of 1980, and had taken the ride in the cable car to the mountain top. I had shot three photos using my Asahi Pentax Spotmatic film camera through the glass of gondola as we were going up. Ten years ago, I scanned the negatives and posted the photos, having processed them as best as I could at the time.
My processing skills and technology had changed since that time, so I went back to the original scans to basically give it another kick of the can, so to speak. Rather than put them up separately, I combined the reprocessed images into this one.

El caballo estaba pastando cerca de un nido de cigüeñuelas. El macho voló cerca del caballo, se fingió herido y revoloteó delante de su hocico, provocandole, para que variara su trayectoria. En este caso, el caballo no era uno de sus predadores, pero todo y así logró distraer su atención.
The horse was pasturing near a black-winged stilt nest. The male flew near the horse, wounded pretended to be and it flew about before his muzzle, provoking him, so that it varied his trajectory. In this case, the horse was not one of his predators, but everything and it was able this way to distract his attention.

From here I had about a 2 hour drive to get home. After this I took a drive to the North Shore of New Brunswick.

This is a square keeper's house painted white with the lighthouse lantern on the roof. Most lighthouse keepers lived separately from the light itself, the lighthouse keeper and family lived in this lighthouse for over 50 years. It is perched upon a small point of land 4.6 meters (15ft) above the high water level. The lighthouse is one of only three of this type left in Nova Scotia.
The light tower with its cat walk, 8.84 meters (29ft) above the base of the solidly built house, has inside steep- stair accessibility. Painted wooden floors and interior walls add to the building's sturdy and residential character.

It's good to be back in Melbourne if only for a stopover day in order to catch the ferry, the Spirit of Tasmania, to Devonport tonight. It's quite something to be here at the weekend... It almost seems that Australians turn into a different species of Homo sapiens in the revelling fun they have in relaxing. A bit like our Butterfly today perhaps.
It's called Australian Painted Lady, Vanessa kershawi, and it much resembles other Vanessas 'round the globe. Apparently though, the males' genitalia are quite specific to this Australian form and thus was born Vanessa kershawi.
Here it's having a go at pretty Strawflower, Xerochrysum bracteatum (www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/2850784049/in/photolis...) in the fine Royal Botanic Gardens of Melbourne.
Multiple-exposure composed of three separate images
Uncropped with some minimal subtractive cloning in the centre of the image, along with some additive cloning on the edges
Started out with the intention of cleaning up and simplifying the chaos which often ensues from the spontaneous and unpredictable nature of handheld, manual shooting of multiple exposures.
Afterwards, I switched it up and decided to go with the flow of grungified deconstructivity by adding to the gritty details along the edges of the photo to stretch it out and let it breathe a bit as it gradually broke up against a dark flickr background.
Originally thought of an alternative title that went something along the lines of "How aliens perceive human advertising" or a "Fly's eyeview of the urban landscape".
The coastal mountan range separates the Pacific Ocean from the inland valleys and the Gaviota Pass is the only gap for many miles. The US101 highway tunnels through the mountain to connect the ocean them as clearly seen in this photograph..
Marine Layer (clouds): “The cooler air below the inversion is called the marine layer and is cooled to the point at clouds form,” according to the National Weather Service.
California in particular is susceptible to marine layer, because the Pacific Ocean water is so cold as it comes down from the Gulf of Alaska. As the temperatures heat up in spring and summer, the ocean still stays relatively cold.
Warm air in the summer months traps the cold air above the surface of the water and boom — marine layer.
The low clouds and fog usually clear up in late morning or afternoon, but sometimes can stick around for days on end.
Watching a murmuration is spellbinding. I've no idea what makes the starlings break into separate groups, like they're doing here, but I love to watch the shapes they create and the way they come back together before splitting again in a different way.

The Obersee is a natural lake in the extreme southeast Berchtesgadener Land district of the German state of Bavaria, near the Austrian border. All of the lake is within the Berchtesgaden National Park. It is located southeast of the much larger Königssee.
The two lakes are separated through a moraine. A massive rockfall in 1172 is sometimes referred to as the cause of the separation of the two lakes but Obersee was most likely never part of the larger Königssee and always separated. There are no villages near the lake, the only dwelling being the small Fischunkelalm which is only occupied during the summer month.

This was created on my iPhone 6s Plus using the Lightroom App and captured as a RAW/DNG file. It was automatically transferred into a Lightroom Library and then edited in photoshop. It went through several steps including:#AuroraHDR, then Macphun Noiseless CK, next I used Apply Image on two separate layers to create masks for two curve layers to adjust shadows and highlights. Finally, cloned out some seabirds (that looked like sensor dust spots!) and then used ON1's resize to scale up the image.
In short I was basically messing around :)

I had a couple of hours to pass the time in Coventry today whilst #3 was sitting an exam (he said it all went well). So I went to a coffee shop and sat and worked. Whilst I was drinking my coffee and working this man came and sat a few tables away and also had a coffee. He just sat and watched the world go by out of the window in front of him. We were together in the same place doing the same thing and still completely separate. No idea who he was or why he was so smartly dressed and having a coffee at that time in that place. I wish I was brave enough to have talked to him and find out... Maybe one day I will do the 100 strangers project.
Our dreams are a second life. I have never been able to penetrate without a shudder those ivory or horned gates which separate us from the invisible world.

Taken yesterday, on another trip over London in a helicopter, this time the lighting was a little better, a lot of cloud about so it was difficult to get the whole of the isle of dogs in without shadow, but we had a good pilot, he used to fly the lynx in the air corpes, he could do some amazing tricks, beats Alton towers anyday, lol

Yosemite National Park - You never know with Horsetail Falls if conditions will be right for the Falls to glow. More often than not the magic doesn't happen, so when it does, it is magical indeed! On this occasion the Falls appeared more yellow than orange. I have been lucky enough to witness this phenomena on 3 separate occasions. The first time we visited was before it was so popular, many years ago.
