Just a few miles east of Grand Canyon Village, visitors can stand at Yaki Point and see a distinctly different view of the Grand Canyon from other viewing areas. It is located on a separate promontory and provides views of different features of the Canyon.
Blue Grosbeak (Passerina caerulea) is beefy, big-headed, large-billed bunting. Male is deep cobalt blue with rufous wingbars. Females are warm brown with rufous or buffy wingbars. Always look for enormous bill to separate from other buntings; also note unstreaked underparts and slightly longer tail. Swishes tail like other buntings. Fairly common in overgrown fields with hedgerows and bushes.

There are three male African lions at Zoo Atlanta: Azizi, Hondo and Hatari. They are brothers, and you will often find them inseparable. In fact, the lions are usually only separated from each other when they eat and when they are training.
Dunlin - Calidris alpina
The dunlin (Calidris alpina) is a small wader, sometimes separated with the other "stints" in Erolia. The English name is a dialect form of "dunling", first recorded in 1531–2. It derives from dun, "dull brown", with the suffix -ling, meaning a person or thing with the given quality. The genus name is from Ancient Greek kalidris or skalidris, a term used by Aristotle for some grey-coloured waterside birds. The specific alpina is from Latin and means "of high mountains", in this case referring to the Alps.
It is a circumpolar breeder in Arctic or subarctic regions. Birds that breed in northern Europe and Asia are long-distance migrants, wintering south to Africa, southeast Asia and the Middle East. Birds that breed in Alaska and the Canadian Arctic migrate short distances to the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America, although those nesting in northern Alaska overwinter in Asia. Many dunlins winter along the Iberian south coast.
An adult dunlin in breeding plumage shows the distinctive black belly which no other similar-sized wader possesses. The winter dunlin is basically grey above and white below. Juveniles are brown above with two whitish "V" shapes on the back. They usually have black marks on the flanks or belly and show a strong white wingbar in flight.
The legs and slightly decurved bill are black. There are a number of subspecies differing mainly in the extent of rufous colouration in the breeding plumage and the bill length. Bill length varies between sexes, the females having longer bills than the males.

The first town, built by Celts in the first century BC, occupied about 30 hectares along the slopes of Gellért Hill. Archaeological finds suggest that it may have been a densely populated settlement with a separate district of craftsmen (potteries and bronze foundries). The Siberian Husky is a beautiful dog breed with a thick coat that comes in a multitude of colors and markings. Their blue or multi-colored eyes and striking facial masks only add to the appeal of this breed, which was originally developed by the Chukchi people of the Chukchi Peninsula in eastern Siberia. In their language, husky means "hoarse", characteristic of the dog's barking.
In general, in competitions, the Siberian Husky, faster than other breeds, compete in a separate category.

This photo was taken at the same location as the previous photo of Futami bay and port. This is a northwestward view from Denshinyama (電信山).
Smaller islands in the sea are Nishijima (西島), Hitomarujima (人丸島) and Hyoutanjima (瓢箪島) from left to right.
The straits, width of more or less 800m, is called Anijima Seto (兄島瀬戸) or the Anijima straits, which is beautifully blue but notoriously dangerous due to the fast current as observed in the photo.
This large museum of natural history combines three museums into one, including a four-story taxonomy wing, a building of skeletons and fossils and a separate structure devoted entirely to geology.

I'm going through and re-watching all of Jim Jarmusch's films and re-watched The Limits of Control on Friday night, which has a great deal of exchanged matchboxes and meandering conversations starting with this line. It's not clear if the protagonist played by Isaach De Bankolé actually doesn't understand Spanish or how much English he understands (In Jarmusch's Ghost Dog, he plays an ice cream truck seller who only speaks French) but there's an interesting sense of people entering in and out of the main character's life while he has his two espressos in two separate cups. The film was actually set in Madrid but there was something about the way this car was creeping by and the people inside me that reminded me of the way people can drift slowly by and if you didn't have your camera on you, maybe you wouldn't really remember certain faces or moods they put you in 4+ years later, especially if you've gone through a lot of different experiences since then. But, both still photographs and philosophical films capture glimpses of selves at different points of time, brief interruptions where we aren't just going through all the motions to keep human and stay alive.

Tumon Bay is a bay in the United States territory of Guam, opening to the Philippine Sea. It is bounded to the north by Two Lovers Point and to the south by Ypao Point. The entirety of the bay falls within the Tumon Bay Marine Preserve, also known as the Tumon Bay Marine Preserve Area (MPA) and Tumon Preserve, one of five marine preserves on Guam. The Preserve measures 4.54 square kilometers and is roughly two miles long. The platform of the fringing reef that separates the open ocean from the lagoon is up to 1,450 feet (440 m) wide. and up to one mile from the shore. The bay is located off of the Tumon area, the tourist center of the island, in the village of Tamuning. The bay is extensively utilized for recreation and fishing.

Fryup dale is separated into two small valleys or dales: Great Fryup Dale and Little Fryup Dale separated by the Heads. The majority of people live in Great Fryup Dale, with Little Fryup having only eight or nine farms and cottages.
The hamlet across the valley is "Street" located on High Street

Caught a glimpse of a section of roof lines and noted the horizontals but very nearly no verticals other than the chimney stacks and a couple of dormer windows - nothing special but thought I would give it a snap . I have a feeling that it is two separate dwellings as well .
Not a shot that I should have seen or taken as we were supposed to be a hundred miles away on a short break that never happened and was called off at the last moment . Bit miffed about that , but at least we will rebook and maybe get some better weather than we have at the moment . My SSC shot has been a nightmare this week and at least there was one idea when I was away and now that has gone out of the window as well !!
The shape of the rocks inspired me over and over. In this case I was fascinated by the palm tree growing just in between the separated rocks. La Digue 2019
The Iconic "Rostrum". Yosemite Valley, CA.
I've marveled at the aesthetic beauty of this formation while driving up hwy 140 into Yosemite valley. This view is from Big Oak Flat Road. While this road is extremely scenic, it was always point A to point B for me and I never attempted to stop at any of the crowded pull outs. This past weekend I finally took the time and enjoyed the view.
These guys are easy to hear as they deliver their two-note call in a subdued tone from the tops of tree canopies. They seem to fly about languidly, but they can be hard to lay eyes on because of dense foliage.
I was able to photograph this bird three separate times, but all shots had limited light. In another, the bird was perched a bit too high.
I wish this shot were brighter, but it does show a sense of the dense tropical forest.

During the trip to Brazil this was the only time I saw the heron. It was at the edge of the river mostly behind low hanging branches.
The striated heron (Butorides striata) also known as mangrove heron, little heron or green-backed heron, is a small heron. Striated herons are mostly non-migratory and noted for some interesting behavioral traits. Their breeding habitat is small wetlands in the Old World tropics from west Africa to Japan and Australia.
This bird was long considered to be conspecific with the closely related North American species, the green heron, which is now usually separated as B. virescens, as well as the lava heron of the Galápagos Islands (now B. sundevalli, but often included in B. striata, e.g. by BirdLife International; collectively they were called "green-backed herons". – Wikipedia
This is the view of the Beartooth Plateau Ridge and Moon Creek Valley as seen fromm the Beartooth Highway. Rock Creek Canyon lies between Moon Creek Valley and the Highway. The pullout, from which the photo was taken, is located in Wyoming while most of the peaks in the photo lie in Montana. The features in the photo are from left to right; Spirit Mountain, Thunder Mountain, and the flanks of Mount Reargaurd on the Hellroaring Plateau. The rocks exposed here are part of an Archean metamorphic-igneous complex. They range in age between 3.6 and 2.7 billion years. These old rocks represent a time when Wyoming was a separate microcontinent called the Wyoming Craton which existed 500 million years before the North American Continent formed. The current topography was carved by glaciers that covered the plateaus and flowed down valleys.

Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra or Kyivo-Pechers’ka Lavra (Ukrainian: Києво-Печерська лавра: Kyievo-Pechers'ka lavra; Russian: Киeво-Печерская лавра: Kiyevo-Pecherskaya lavra), also known as the Kyiv Monastery of the Caves, is a historic Orthodox Christian monastery which gave its name to one of the city districts where it is located in Kyiv.
Since its foundation as the cave monastery in 1051, the Lavra has been a preeminent center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity in Eastern Europe. Together with the Saint Sophia Cathedral, it is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery complex is considered a separate national historic-cultural preserve (sanctuary), the national status to which was granted on 13 March 1996. The Lavra is not only located in another part of the city, but is part of a different national sanctuary than Saint Sophia Cathedral.
