The Carolina Coastal Heritage Units for the Original Norfolk Southern railroad are separated in the Wilson yard. 1501 is in the maintenance area and 1502 is coupled to another unit occupying the main line.
(Castlerock beach, with the hills of Donegal in the distance.)
Somewhere out in the middle of that stretch of sea is the border which separates the Republic of Ireland from Northern Ireland.
Borders usually indicate division, demarcation and separation; a line which cannot easily be crossed.
The Bible says that our sins have created a kind of impassable border between ourselves and the God who created us:
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
(Isaiah 59:2)
This explains why so few people are totally content and happy with life. We were created in God's image, to have a relationship with Him, but our fallen, sinful nature makes such a relationship impossible.
It has been said that we are all born with a "God-shaped hole" - a hole that only God can fill.
Since we could not bridge that gulf, or fill that hole, God took action to make it possible...
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
(1 John 4:9-10)

I had a couple of hours to pass the time in Coventry today whilst #3 was sitting an exam (he said it all went well). So I went to a coffee shop and sat and worked. Whilst I was drinking my coffee and working this man came and sat a few tables away and also had a coffee. He just sat and watched the world go by out of the window in front of him. We were together in the same place doing the same thing and still completely separate. No idea who he was or why he was so smartly dressed and having a coffee at that time in that place. I wish I was brave enough to have talked to him and find out... Maybe one day I will do the 100 strangers project.

Tribal people live in longhouses that are the center of community life. The houses can contain up to 100 families individually separated into apartments and built under a long roof. Here, they are Iban. They are believed to be from Sumatra and migrated to find new farmland. This migration did not go smoothly, armed conflicts broke out with the other ethnic groups present, with the enslavement of the vanquished and, as trophies, cut heads, which earned them the name of Headhunters. Evangelized and sedentary, they gradually lost their traditions, their identity. They live in these apartments, I had the chance to visit one

Le Linge / Lingekopf
WWI French Cemetery, Vosges, France
The Linge ridge is located in the Vosges in Alsace and with a height of 1,000 metres it separates the Orbey and Munster valleys and the Germans had taken up positions along the ridge in 1914 when, being the aggressor, they were able to pick and choose where they wanted to place their guns and men and, as we have seen so often always went for the high ground. One objective here was to cut off French access to Colmar. From the beginning of 1915 the position of the front line in this whole area was ill-defined and the French, certainly influenced by the need to improve their positions and using their Chasseurs Alpins launched an attack with the ensuing battle lasting from 20 July to 15 October.
It was a bloody encounter with gas and flame throwers being used. Approximately 10,000 Frenchmen and 7,000 Germans were to be killed but after the fighting the front line positions were to remain much the same until the end of the war in November 1918. The Germans had made the first moves on 19 February 1915 when they attacked some of the smaller peaks on the Linge ridge including the Kleinkopf, the Barrenkopf, and the Schratzmännele but heavy snow storms meant that they could only reach the Barrenkopf and the Schratzmännele. In March 1915, the French launched their own offensive and fighting continued week by week and in July, after a heavy artillery bombardment the French Chasseurs à Pied, Chasseurs Alpins, and Infantry Regiments attacked the Barrenkopf, the Schratzmännele, and the Collet du Linge but without success.
Attacks and counterattacks continued and on 29 July the French took the Barrenkopf and the Schratzmännele but by the end of August the Germans retook these peaks but left the lower western slopes to the French. From August until October 1915 the attacks and counterattacks would go on without much gain for both parties.
Part of the battlefield area has been conserved and one can still see bunkers and fortified trenches. The terrain of the Linge was not ideal for fighting with numerous trees and bushes and rocky escarpments and the Germans had used their time on the ridge from late 1914 to build substantial defences including bunkers, blockhouses for their artillery and machine gun emplacements and to add barbed wire which was often difficult to see amongst the bushes and rocks.

From Wikipedia:
The Go Between Bridge, formerly known as the Hale Street Link, is a toll bridge for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists over the Brisbane River in inner-city Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The bridge connects Merivale and Cordelia Streets in West End to Hale Street and the Inner City Bypass at Milton. It is Brisbane's first inner-city traffic bridge in 40 years and carries around 12,000 vehicles per day. The bridge opened to traffic on 5 July 2010 and is now operated by Transurban Queensland.
The Go Between Bridge is named after the popular Australian indie rock band The Go-Betweens, which was formed in Brisbane. The bridge was part of Campbell Newman's TransApex transport plan. It extends the Inner City Bypass across the Brisbane River.
A charity concert featuring Robert Forster from the Go-Betweens and other singers was held on 25 June, followed by a community open day on 4 July 2010.
Construction began in July 2008 and the project was completed in early July 2010. The bridge was built by The Hale Street Link Alliance (HSLA) which consisted of four companies; Bouygues Travaux Publics, Macmahon Holdings, Seymour Whyte and Hyder Consulting. During construction, lane closures on Coronation Drive caused delays for motorists and resulted in temporary changes to associated public transport services. The final concrete pour for the main bridge span occurred on 2 December 2009. The construction cost for the bridge was A$338 million.
The Go Between Bridge is a four-lane bridge with dedicated pedestrian and cycle pathways. It is a three span, twin concrete box girder structure built using balanced cantilever construction. The main bridge span is 117 m (384 ft) long, supported by two river piers located 74 m (243 ft) north and 80 m (260 ft) south of the abutments on each river bank. The pathways are 3.6 m (12 ft) wide and designed for equitable access. A pedestrian pathway is located on the eastern (city) side of the bridge and a cycleway on the western (Toowong) side. As the bridge is steep, the pedestrian path was built as a separate structure at a lesser grade. This allows for the path gradient to comply with equitable and disabled access requirements.
The Taupo Tree, Lake Taupo, New Zealand
Liz and I spent the holiday weekend just north of Turangi on the sourthern shores of Lake Taupo. One of my goals for the weekend was to find, and photograph, the "Taupo Tree" which is a long lost cousin to the now infamous "Wanaka Tree".
With a bit of help from another photographer I managed to find the tree in a brief spell of dry weather at sunrise on Sunday, and grabbed a few shots. We even managed to return this morning to grab some more shots of this stunning location before the rain set in again.
Before anyone asks I am not planning to publicly out the location of this tree, mainly because of it's location near residential housing, and the possibility that hordes of photographers descending on this tree will see the tree removed by it's neighbours to return their little piece of paradise to it's forgotten status.

Subscribers to Duluth Museum news would have a seen the surprising, yet exciting, announcement that DM&IR 316 was headed to North Dakota with a former Northern Pacific high-hood geep coming to Duluth in exchange.
DMIR 316 was a virtual twin to 193, and were occasionally seen together, such as Railfan Weekend 2017.
I never did get to see the "Missabe Sisters" on an ore train, hopes were dashed in 2017 at the last moment, but I was able see them paired together, as shown.
This photo was the last time I'd see the 316 in action, trailing 193 on a "Missabe Officer Special".
In the mid-1920s, a series of unfortunate events befell the town of Boynton. Plans for a new hotel were abandoned by Addison Mizner and his brother Wilson who eventually built the Cloister Inn in Boca Raton. in 1925, citrus canker was discovered in the town’s orange groves which led to their destruction. The town also began to suffer from severe financial problems resulting in the bank refusing to honor checks signed by the City Clerk and salaries for municipal staff being cut by up to 50%. The Florida Land Boom was beginning to wane at this time and two hurricanes in 1926 and 1928, caused extensive damage which added to the town’s problems. As the Depression hit, Boynton’s financial problems continued to mount and, in 1929, the Bank of Boynton failed.
Concerned residents from the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway were worried about the debt and informed the town they wished to separate from Boynton and start a new municipality. When bond holders began to press for payment on nearly $1 million of indebtedness, Boynton and the eastside residents reached an agreement whereby, upon assumption of half of the debt, a new municipality would be established on the east side of the waterway. The agreement was finalized in on April 17, 1931 with the formation of Boynton on the west side of the canal, and Boynton Beach on the east. In 1939, the Town of Boynton Beach changed its name to Ocean Ridge and, within two years, the Town of Boynton changed its name to the Town of Boynton Beach.
Before a bridge was built over the East Coast Canal (now the Intracoastal Waterway), crossings were made by means of a hand-operated lighter (barge) located at Ocean Avenue. Once on board, passengers would haul on a chain to pull the lighter to the other side.
The first bridge was built over the canal at Ocean Avenue in 1911. The wooden swing bridge was operated by a crank in the center section, pushed by the bridge-tender walking in a circle until it swung open. In 1924, the bridge-tenders were Wilbur and Jessie Forrey. Jessie would crank the bridge while Wilbur lowered a chain across the canal and collected the toll.
Construction of a new bridge began in 1935. The bridge was constructed from steel and was operated with a Scherzer rolling lift bascule, which was an unusual movable span found in only two other bridges in Florida. The span was designed by William Scherzer of Chicago and built by the Nashville Bridge Company. As the bridge was financed with Depression era relief funds given by the Federal Government, the design of the bridge was very plain3. The bridge was 121 feet long, 31 feet wide and carried two narrow lanes of traffic with sidewalks on each side.
In 1970, project development started for the construction of a new bridge at Boynton Beach Boulevard; however, a property owner who would have been impacted by the bridge relocation filed suit and the resulting arbitration ruled in his favor. The project was put on hold for several years and then two proposals were studied. The first was to relocate the new bridge to Boynton Beach Boulevard and the second was to replace the bridge on Ocean Avenue. In 1994, the permit for the Boynton Beach Boulevard bridge was rejected which left the Ocean Avenue proposal as the only option,
Construction of the new bridge started in November 1998 and the project was completed in March, 2001.

Mormon Row Historic District - Mormon Row is a line of homestead complexes along the Jackson-Moran Road near the southeast corner of Grand Teton National Park, in the valley called Jackson Hole. The rural historic landscape's period of significance includes the construction of the Andy Chambers, T.A. Moulton and John Moulton farms from 1908 to the 1950s. Six building clusters and a separate ruin illustrate Mormon settlement in the area and comprise such features as drainage systems, barns, fields and corrals. Apart from John and T.A. Moulton, other settlers in the area were Joseph Eggleston, Albert Gunther, Henry May, Thomas Murphy and George Riniker. The area is also known as Antelope Flats, situated between the towns of Moose and Kelly. It is a popular destination for tourists and photographers on account of the historic buildings, the herds of bison, and the spectacular Teton Range rising in the background. The alluvial soil to the east of Blacktail Butte was more suitable than most locations in Jackson Hole for farming, somewhat hampered by a lack of readily available water. The Mormon homesteaders began to arrive in the 1890s from Idaho, creating a community called "Gros Ventre", with a total of 27 homesteads. The Mormon settlers tended to create clustered communities, in contrast to the isolated homesteads more typical of Jackson Hole. Mormon Row was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. [Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_Row_Historic_District]
Grand Teton National Park is a United States National Park in northwestern Wyoming. At approximately 310,000 acres (480 sq mi; 130,000 ha; 1,300 km2), the park includes the major peaks of the 40-mile-long (64 km) Teton Range as well as most of the northern sections of the valley known as Jackson Hole. It is only 10 miles (16 km) south of Yellowstone National Park, to which it is connected by the National Park Service-managed John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway. Along with surrounding National Forests, these three protected areas constitute the almost 18,000,000-acre (7,300,000 ha) Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the largest intact mid-latitude temperate ecosystems in the world. Human history of the Grand Teton region dates back at least 11,000 years, when the first nomadic hunter-gatherer Paleo-Indians began migrating into the region during warmer months pursuing food and supplies. In the early 19th century, the first White explorers encountered the eastern Shoshone natives. Between 1810 and 1840, the region attracted fur trading companies that vied for control of the lucrative beaver pelt trade. U.S. Government expeditions to the region commenced in the mid-19th century as an offshoot of exploration in Yellowstone, with the first permanent white settlers in Jackson Hole arriving in the 1880s. Efforts to preserve the region as a national park commenced in the late 19th century, and in 1929 Grand Teton National Park was established, protecting the major peaks of the Teton Range. The valley of Jackson Hole remained in private ownership until the 1930s, when conservationists led by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. began purchasing land in Jackson Hole to be added to the existing national park. Against public opinion and with repeated Congressional efforts to repeal the measures, much of Jackson Hole was set aside for protection as Jackson Hole National Monument in 1943. The monument was abolished in 1950 and most of the monument land was added to Grand Teton National Park. Grand Teton National Park is named for Grand Teton, the tallest mountain in the Teton Range. The naming of the mountains is attributed to early 19th-century French-speaking trappers—les trois tétons (the three teats) was later anglicized and shortened to Tetons. At 13,775 feet (4,199 m), Grand Teton abruptly rises more than 7,000 feet (2,100 m) above Jackson Hole, almost 850 feet (260 m) higher than Mount Owen, the second-highest summit in the range. The park has numerous lakes, including 15-mile-long (24 km) Jackson Lake as well as streams of varying length and the upper main stem of the Snake River. Though in a state of recession, a dozen small glaciers persist at the higher elevations near the highest peaks in the range. Some of the rocks in the park are the oldest found in any U.S. National Park and have been dated at nearly 2.7 billion years. Grand Teton National Park is an almost pristine ecosystem and the same species of flora and fauna that have existed since prehistoric times can still be found there. More than 1,000 species of vascular plants, dozens of species of mammals, 300 species of birds, more than a dozen fish species and a few species of reptiles and amphibians exist. Due to various changes in the ecosystem, some of them human-induced, efforts have been made to provide enhanced protection to some species of native fish and the increasingly threatened whitebark pine. Grand Teton National Park is a popular destination for mountaineering, hiking, fishing and other forms of recreation. There are more than 1,000 drive-in campsites and over 200 miles (320 km) of hiking trails that provide access to backcountry camping areas. Noted for world-renowned trout fishing, the park is one of the few places to catch Snake River fine-spotted cutthroat trout. Grand Teton has several National Park Service-run visitor centers, and privately operated concessions for motels, lodges, gas stations and marinas.

SNELLA E FLESSUOSA

SLIM AND FLEXIBLE
On the edge of the square of the small pine forest that separates the city of Trieste from Barcola, towards the sea, you can see the beautiful bronze statue of the Ondine Swimmer decidedly hidden and almost camouflaged among the shrubs, so that it is difficult to notice her. It was made by the sculptor Ugo Carà and it was a gift at the end of the 80s from the Panathlon Club of Trieste.
The slender and elegant figure, characteristic of the artist's sculpture, seems to lightly sail the waters of that sea on which Barcola overlooks, and from which Carà drew its roots, being the mother originally from Crete and the father from Dalmatia. This was taken on my last London visit early this month. This is a new viewpoint for me from the end of an overhead pedestrian walkway or pedway and part of the barbican estate. This is overlooking the street called London Wall where there has been a lot of new development recently. I found it because I was checking out some streets on Google Street view and came across a new pedestrian bridge over the road further to the right of where this was taken. This led to more exploration of this area as night was falling. The Pedways of the City of London have an interesting history. They evolved out of a plan to transform traffic flows in the City of London by separating pedestrians from street level traffic using elevated walkways. First devised as part of the post World War II reconstruction plans for London, it was put into effect mainly from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, and had been largely discontinued by the 1980s. Many have been lost to new skyscrapers and the main area with a continuous network remaining is the Barbican Estate which London Wall adjoins.
The picture was taken with a tripod with a Sony A68 with a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle at 10mm. I took 3 shots for HDR processed in Photomatix using Tone Balancer for a natural look. Topaz Clarity for more detail. There was a fair bit of processing to get it just right. Just one image was used for the people on the pavement and even then looking very ghostly. Hue saturation adjustment layers were used to warm up the lights inside the buildings and bring out the reds in the traffic trails some of which started out a little faint. I cropped for better framing. I used filter- lens correction- perspective to bring the buildings upright.

Panther chameleons are zygodactylous: on each foot, the five toes are fused into a group of two and a group of three, giving the foot a tongs-like appearance. These specialized feet allow the panther chameleon a tight grip on narrow branches. Each toe is equipped with a sharp claw to gain traction on surfaces such as bark when climbing. The claws make it easy to see how many toes are fused into each part of the foot — two toes on the outside of each front foot and three on the inside.
Their eyes are the most distinctive among the reptiles and function like a gun turret. The upper and lower eyelids are joined, with only a pinhole large enough for the pupil to see through. They can rotate and focus separately to observe two different objects simultaneously; their eyes move independently from each other. It in effect gives them a full 360-degree arc of vision around their bodies. When prey is located, both eyes can be focused in the same direction, giving sharp stereoscopic vision and depth perception.
