Always looking to learn something new, I took some baby steps into macro photography. I put an old hard drive on the desk, and illuminated it with a strong LED desk light. I used a tripod to stabilize the camera. I moved the hard drive around on the table to center the object of interest in front of the lens, in this case two cars waiting at a red light.

Macro photography has a very shallow depth of field, so I selected 100 ISO and aperture 10, and manually focused to the desired object. Sony's focus peaking really helps - you see yellow lines wherever the focus is.

I processed two RAW exposures into a balanced HDR photo to enhance the micro-contrast.

There were nice clouds today above, and no clouds in the East, so I decided to head up to Mt. Hamilton to observe the sunset. By the time I was up there most clouds were gone, but a few remained. This shot is from the Mount Hamilton GrandView Restaurant shortly before sunset. The sunset from up there overlooking the Silicon Valley is unsurpassable.

Does anybody recognize the title?

I processed a smooth HDR photo from three RAW exposures, and added some vignetting.

Thinking outside the box - I rarely take any 'reflection photos' Here's a view I've seen a few times but never got around to photographing....

Kemer Country, Istanbul. 4 exposure panorama stitched in Lightroom. The light was significantly different on the left side of the image with overexposed clouds. Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro handled the raw images very capably.

I wish I had taken more shots of this beautiful tree. It's huge and imposing.

The Jardin des Plantes du Mans (8 hectares), also known as the Jardin d'Horticulture du Mans, is a botanical garden located at 4 Rue de Sinault, Le Mans, Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France. It is open daily without charge.

The garden was created between 1867-1870 to designs by Jean-Charles Alphand, who also designed Paris's Parc Monceau, Bois de Boulogne, and Bois de Vincennes. It consists of two major sections linked by small tunnels: a French garden (3 hectares) with rose garden and terraced walk planted with four rows of Tilia nearly 100 years old, and an English-style park (4 hectares) with fine trees and a large pond.

Viewed from above, the extraordinary San Luis Valley of southern Colorado, up to 75 miles wide in places, can sometimes take on the appearance of a large body of water, such as a vast lake or sea, especially if the weather conditions limit visibility. Some of the pictures I take of this extraordinary valley even autotag as "seaside" or "seashore!" There’s some irony in this, because the valley actually has a high desert climate, receiving very little precipitation. This wide angle image, taken from the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, shows the silhouette of the San Juan Range in the distance, beneath an unusually beautiful sunset!

In June and July this year there was an open garden exhibition of many particular gardens. This one of the gardens, very impressive to see how some of the gardens are. Like this one, it is more a park than a garden. The variety of the gardens is also nice to see.

Grazing cattle at an old cattle ranch nestled in the hills beneath the Collegiate Range along route 285 in Colorado. One valley over from the previous picture, the day's ominous clouds in the region continued to deliver a picturesque dramatic background for this hungry photographer!

Looking straight up on the Transamerica building in San Francisco. This is the iconic pyramid-shaped skyscraper that is supposed to be earthquake-proof.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures. Then I reduced the color saturation of all but yellow.
