The Eureka Dunes lie in the remote Eureka Valley, an enclosed basin at 3000 foot elevation located northwest of Death Valley, they are the tallest sand dunes in California, the tallest in all of North America. They rise suddenly more than 680 feet above the dry lakebed at their western base.
This is a photo of patterns in the sand created by a shallow stream flowing across Clam Harbour Beach that look like a classical base relief sculpture done in marble.
© 2011 Todd Tobey....This was taken a little earlier the same evening as my previous post. You can see the piece of driftwood that I used as foreground interest for my last shot. Just love the patterns in the sand created by wind and water. The light was really nice too. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week. It really is best viewed large on black if you have the time!!

A young otter was soaked and sand covered, but was playing healthily in the middle of winter.

I choose this picture as the best in my gallery of 2016.
It was very difficult to take it, considering that I was all alone with a little tripod and a smartphone.
After a lot of attempts, I'm very happy with te result.
A wild time we had there weather wise on this day, and made for some nice colors there with the wet sand in southern Utah.

I went back through my attempts at capturing the blowing sand and found a second shot I might like better than the first one I posted earlier. What do you think? I was able to get this shot at a different angle showing a bit more perspective with regards to the surroundings, and I processed it a little differently. You can see Yaquina Head Lighthouse over in the upper left almost out of the photograph.
Thanks to everyone for stopping by to view, fave, and comment!!
Sand Dollar Beach is the largest unbroken stretch of sand along the Big Sur coast. It is protected by the high bluffs behind it. The beach is about 150 ft below the top of the bluffs and is reached by a good trail and impressive staircase. A photo merge of four handheld images.
Hope your week is off to a good start. We are in for a some welcome rain this week.
Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

I recently visited Abu Dhabi. In a dessert outside of the city I was participating in sand bashing, which was driving in the dessert and sliding down the sand dunes. It was great fun :-D
Taken with my iPhone.
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment, and/or fave my photo.
A rare sighting of the little known Australian Rusty Sand Shark swimming along the beach....
A small piece of the Allenwood Cargo ship which was wrecked on Birdie Beach in 1951. The wreck is mostly covered with sand, but small pieces were uncovered after recent storms.
Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are Death Valley’s most accessible, as a consequence finding a pristine crest requires a long trudge to the far end of the dune field and some luck. If you do find one, dig in your tripod to stake your claim!

WONDERFUL FACTS - What is the most powerful bird in the world?
The wild animal known to have been killed and carried away by a bird was a 15 pound male red howler monkey killed by a Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja) in Manu National Park, Peru in 1990.
The Harpy Eagle is considered the world's most powerful bird of prey, although it weighs only 20 pounds. 🐧
Happy birding 🐾
