I usually try not to post two of the same type of animal in a row, but I haven't seen anything else too interesting lately unfortunately.

"Mabry's Mill was originally constructed in 1905 by Ed and Lizzie Mabry. It was in operation by 1908 and was used by many in the region who brought their corn to be ground.

The mill had a lack of water power, earning it a reputation as a "slow mill," but because of this, the mill would not grind too fast or scorch the corn, which resulted in the Mabry's mill being known for producing some of the finest tasting corn meal in the region.

Ed would eventually construct a sawmill and woodworking shop alongside the grist mill, and a number of the tools he used in the shop were powered by the waterwheel. He would also go on to build a nearby blacksmith shop.

Ed Mabry passed away in 1938 and the National Park Service purchased the property from Lizzie. The Park Service completely restored the facility in 1942 and continues to preserve the area as a celebration of the rich culture of Virginia's Blue Ridge.

The mill still stands as a unique symbol of the region's heritage and has attracted visitors from around the world."

St. Michael's Cave or Old St. Michael's Cave is the name given to a network of limestone caves located within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, at a height of over 300 metres (980 ft) above sea level. According to Alonso Hernández del Portillo, the first historian of Gibraltar, its name is derived from a similar grotto in Monte Gargano near the Sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo in Apulia, Italy, where the archangel Michael is said to have appeared.

It is the most visited of the more than 150 caves found inside the Rock of Gibraltar, receiving almost 1,000,000 visitors a year.

This beauty spot was named after Queen Victoria's visit in 1866 - she loved the view so much it was named after her! Its location in Highland Perthshire has everything – lochs, mountains and forests.

The Sanctuary of Saint Patrick's Cathedral

The sanctuary was raised and extended to a length of 76 feet. Choir stalls were set along the sides with a new oak cathedra (bishop’s chair). The galero is no longer presented to new cardinals.

In 2015 the galeros were removed, restored, and then re-hung in the ambulatory, just outside the sanctuary. The cathedra’s baldachino was also restored and returned to its location above the archbishop’s chair.

I don’t know why I took last week off of flickr (posting)… I should’ve taken this week off.

The exhibition is on Friday! And lets just say things are pretty hectic and crazy I wish my 365 was the only thing in my head this week but for a change it isn’t.

I'm making notes to go next to the photos so I printed it really nicely stuck it on kappa and now I cant cut it, it keeps coming out so skew I'm going crazy!!!! I have to get it right !

I haven't handed out any invitations either…I'm so nervous about it ! I'm gonna have to go tomorrow no days left!!

Neomi said I must relax and take it all in the few days before an exhibition are the biggest days there are…in the emotional sense and all that I think shes right and Im trying to just take it all in but its hard.

I've been getting a few emails and messages from different websites after the article came out from people women especially telling me they feel the same and how they relate its wonderful!! one girl I was talking to said I don’t wear any masks I'm very very up front and honest about who I am and all of my insecurities and that most human beings arnt like that that’s why I feel so alone most of the time cause people who do wear masks cant handle me or being with me. Which actually makes allot sense I think and at the same time SUCKS!! I hope to meet people who arnt intimidated by it and by me … besides people that are afraid of me are people who are afraid of them selves. Its people who can face their own darkness cause their too scared of it so how can they be with me I live my darkness so fully ! so maybe im doomed in a way to be more alone but I guess that’s the price I have to pay. People keep telling me and writing me how honest I am I don’t know why they say it but thanks I guess… I just do what I do and speak what I feel and I think people should do it more often. Just try it !!!

Nature is incredible! The Bedeguar Gall (also known as Robin's Pincushion) is the product of a group of up to 60 Bedeguar Gall Wasp larvae, each residing in their own chamber within the gall! These amazing galls can be found anywhere that the Dog-rose plant is found from May onwards.

The female Bedeguar Gall Wasps (Diplolepis rosae) are about 4 mm long; parts of their abdomens and legs are an amber/chestnut colour, while the rest of the body is black. The male (length of about 3 mm) is very rare. It is black and its legs are bi-coloured. The gall is more likely to be seen than the adult wasp. The larvae overwinter in the gall emerging as adult wasps in spring. The adult wasps reproduce not needing males i.e. parthenogenetically.

Here's some info stolen from the web:

Swasey’s Cabin is a landmark built by some of the first settlers to the area and is listed on the National Historic Register.

The Swasey family arrived in the Swell and raised livestock and wrangled horses here in the late 1800s. Before they built this cabin in 1921, the Swasey brothers slept out in the open or in shallow caves. Nearby is Eagle Canyon, named so by the Swasey brothers because its walls seemed so high that an eagle couldn’t fly out of the canyon.

The Swasey boys, considered outlaws by many, built the cabin as a stop-over point for running cattle through the region. Today the cabin has Interpretive Panels that tell the history of the cabin and invite visitors to explore.

There is a geocache nearby, too: coord.info/GCVN4N

St Stephen's Hall stands on the site of the royal Chapel of St Stephen's, where the House of Commons sat until the Chapel was destroyed by the fire of 1834.

The hall closely matches the dimensions of the old Chapel, being 29 metres (95 feet) long and 9 metres (30 feet) wide. Brass studs in the floor mark the former position of the Speaker's Chair and the Table of the House, and two brass tablets in the wall at the opposite end mark the position of the screen which separated the lobby from the Chamber.

St Stephen's Hall was in fact used by the House of Commons on the first day of each session from 1945 to 1950, during the rebuilding of the bombed Commons Chamber. In 1960, the whole Hall was renovated and the war damage repaired.

Statues of famous parliamentarians face one another on either side of the Hall; these include John Hampden, Robert Walpole, William Pitt and Charles James Fox. On either side of the doorways are statues of early Kings and Queens of England.

At the east and west ends of the Hall are two large mosaic panels by R. Anning Bell relating to the founding of the earliest Chapel by King Stephen and its rebuilding by Edward III. The mosaic at the west end, unveiled in 1926, portrays Edward III approving the plans for the Chapel and handing them back to his master mason, Michael of Canterbury, with representatives of medieval craftsmen standing beside him. The panel at the east end depicts St Stephen holding a stone, in allusion to his martyrdom, with King Stephen and Edward the Confessor at his sides, and was unveiled a year earlier.

The paintings on the walls depict various important events in British history, while the ten stained-glass windows, five on either side, depict the arms of various parliamentary cities and boroughs; these were damaged in air raids during the Second Word War and since restored.

'Pandora's Cluster' (NIRCam Image) by JWST

NASA’s Webb Uncovers New Details in Pandora’s Cluster

Astronomers have revealed the latest deep field image from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, featuring never-before-seen details in a region of space known as Pandora’s Cluster (Abell 2744). Webb’s view displays three clusters of galaxies – already massive – coming together to form a megacluster. The combined mass of the galaxy clusters creates a powerful gravitational lens, a natural magnification effect of gravity, allowing much more distant galaxies in the early universe to be observed by using the cluster like a magnifying glass.

Caption

Astronomers estimate 50,000 sources of near-infrared light are represented in this image from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. Their light has travelled through varying distances to reach the telescope’s detectors, representing the vastness of space in a single image. A foreground star in our own galaxy, to the right of the image center, displays Webb’s distinctive diffraction spikes. Bright white sources surrounded by a hazy glow are the galaxies of Pandora’s Cluster, a conglomeration of already-massive clusters of galaxies coming together to form a megacluster. The concentration of mass is so great that the fabric of spacetime is warped by gravity, creating an effect that makes the region of special interest to astronomers: a natural, super-magnifying glass called a “gravitational lens” that they can use to see very distant sources of light beyond the cluster that would otherwise be undetectable, even to Webb.

These lensed sources appear red in the image, and often as elongated arcs distorted by the gravitational lens. Many of these are galaxies from the early universe, with their contents magnified and stretched out for astronomers to study. Other red sources in the image have yet to be confirmed by follow-up observations with Webb’s Near-Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec) instrument to determine their true nature. One intriguing example is an extremely compact source that appears as a tiny red dot, despite the magnifying effect of the gravitational lens. One possibility is that the dot is a supermassive black hole in the early universe. NIRSpec data will provide both distance measurements and compositional details of selected sources, providing a wealth of previously-inaccessible information about the universe and how it has evolved over time.
