It was a great afternoon finding a Hermit Thrush and a Swainson's Thrush, both lifers for me!

Cygnus columbianus bewickii at Slimbrige

The Northwest European population of Bewick’s Swan winters mainly in Britain, the Netherlands and Germany, with smaller numbers in Denmark, Sweden, Belgium and France. The population breeds at high latitudes in Arctic Russia from the Fenno-Russian border east to the Lena Delta.

There are also two other populations of Bewick’s Swan: an eastern population which breeds in Arctic Russia to the east of the Lena Delta and winters in Japan, China and Korea; and a much smaller population that winters in the Caspian Sea region.

The Northwest European population is a conservation priority, having declined by more than a quarter since the mid 1990s. An AEWA Single Species Action Action Plan was published in 2012 to focus and coordinate conservation efforts.

Ridgeway's Rail (Rallus obsoletus)

Life has been crazy and I'm very behind in catching up with everyone on Flickr. I spent the last 8 days birding on the west coast and am now home exhausted. One of the birds on my wish list was this Ridgeway's Rail. Because they are secretive, it's a bird I wasn't counting on seeing. But, amazingly, on my very first day while searching for a different bird this guy just walked right out of the reeds in front of me. Nice way to start the trip. As a bonus there were also multiple Soras and a Virginia Rail also walking around in the open. Crazy California birds.

Nothing you can compare to your neighborhood ho

I'm tryna find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful

Had to stop what I'm doin' so I can pull up close

It's raining

It's pouring

The hummers

Are scoring!

Lots of sugar water. I know I've at least two little dive bombers coming around already. Well, actually, they never left. They've been here all winter.

I only cropped this a little bit. Didn't want to lose the bokeh or rain drops. Sorry if a picture of hummer dropping it's kids off at the pool offends anyone, just don't look LOL

The stunning Morant's Curve in Banff National Park. No matter how many times I see this view, it is always different and beautiful.

Lover's dream.,..

She sits peacefully longing to feel beloveds embrace as she slowly drifts to sleep. Her delicate skin so tender echo silk reflections with her inner light a beacon shining brightly with rays of hope. She felt a presence in the room with her in the warmth of gentle touch as hands weightless, bodyless began to embrace her with warmth and light as she rose up cast away the darks shadows transported into her inner world of love and unity where freedom resides....

A message to all woman in the world...Freedom resides deep within You!! You are precious unique individuals !! Freedom of choice and expression is your human right. Sending love and light!!

I am thinking about the earth quake tragedy and in Turkey and Syria. My heart and prayers go to victims and their families. May they rest in peace.

Yes, Yolanda, we all do it sooner or later. And if you've been in photography longer than most, then you've done it more than most. Buyer's remorse. It's called GAS. Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

From left to right.......

A Tokina POS from 1988. I picked this lens up while in the Navy from a fellow sailor. After this mistake, I made myself a hard rule. I would only purchase name brand lenses. This Tonika was a super telephoto macro disappointment. A disappointment so horrendous that it made me swear off third party lenses with the exception of the Vivitar Series 1.

Beside it is a Holga lens with a Nikon F mount. A $50 POS lens to make my expensive digital camera purposefully take crappy photographs. Brilliant. Yeah, I did that. I am so ashamed....

Behind that is a 300mm Nikon telephoto. A 300mm prime. To shoot lions in Africa. What was I thinking?

Next up, a Sigma lens. Did I say I swore off third party lenses? Well I must have been drunk when I bought that one. At least it was used and cheap.

Next is the wide angle lens for my Yashica 124G. Damn it would have been nice to have the corresponding viewing lens as well. Duh.........

Then there's the Tamaron telephoto. Wait...... I bought another third party lens? It was only $20 used. I should have put the money on a horse at the track. I never used the lens.

Finally, the last one, I don't even know what it fits. I bought it at a garage sale. Five bucks. I could have purchased a burger and fries instead.

And these are only a few of the lenses. Then there's the camera bodies..... All used and inexpensive film bodies. I can afford them now! Just in case film should ever make a huge comeback or an Electromagnetic 'Scalar' war should scatter all our pixels into oblivion.

Tripods....... What about the tripods? The crap on three legs I bought before I realized the need for a good tripod. And then the extra tripods I bought to hold cameras until I'm ready to use them.

All that being said, I bought and use a Pro-Optic (Korean) 8mm lens. There's nothing offered by Nikon like it that is even close in price.

So yes, you're not alone. Those lenses that you think you need an adapter for? Nah...... Free lens them. Or purchase the corresponding body. Problem solved.

Bat's Head is a chalk headland on the Dorset coast in southern England, located between Swyre Head and Durdle Door to the east, and Chaldon Hill and White Nothe to the west.

There is a small but very visible cave at the base of the headland known as Bat's Cave. A spectacular path, part of the South West Coast Path, runs along the coast through rolling green downland countryside to the north of Bat's Head.

Kingsburg, Ca.

Kingsburg Historical Park

This sign now resides at the Kingsburg Historical Park. Fred's was an early day truck stop, with a small cafe that served mostly grease and coffee. Barely ever a woman to be found there, and you had to at least look tough to hang there. Ask for a cup of tea, or a salad, and you might get thrown out. The place was established before all the chains built truck stops all over the place. Drivers from coast to coast knew of this place. But time caught up with it and it was torn down a few years ago. The feds cleaned up the hazardous waste and now it's a lot for sale.

It's Anthem Anniversary round, and we made a little independent kitchen cabinet. The cabinet will come in two versions when you purchase it : the empty version with 3 LI , which you can use to decorate by yourself, or the decorated version, which comes with some clutter for your kitchen, which is baked in as one object, and its 17LI.

You can get it at Anthem Event, which is open now! <3

Lots of love and hope you like it!

A Cooper's Hawk let me get pretty close this afternoon at Fort Pickens/Gulf Islands National Seashore FL.

Driving home along the A50 on my evening commute between Derby and Beeston, I could see an interesting formation of steam developing over Ratcliffe Power Station. Rather than carry on along my usual route joining the M1 at Junction 24 and the M1 North, I headed towards Long Eaton and took the turn for Trentlock at Sawley. From this angle, the steam was reflecting in the River Trent and creating an interesting 'S' shape, which I photographed using a long exposure.

I thought I needed a break from all the flower and insect shots, and I saw this on the street. I hope I don't depress everyone with it! I hope someone snatched her up and gave her a good new home.

Early morning Portrait of a Clamanta's Florette's.

Lindheimer's beeblossom is native to southern Louisiana and Texas. The specific epithet is after Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer, a German-born botanist who collected extensively in Texas for Harvard University professor Asa Gray.

Oenothera lindheimeri is commonly grown as an ornamental plant. Several cultivars have been selected for varying flower color, from nearly pure white in 'Whirling Butterflies' to darker pink.

Hadrian's Wall was a defensive fortification in the Roman province of Britannia, begun in AD 122 in the reign of the emperor Hadrian. It ran from the banks of the River Tyne near the North Sea to the Solway Firth on the Irish Sea, and was the northern limit of the Roman Empire, immediately north of which were the lands of the northern Ancient Britons, including the Picts.

Hello friends,

Something new from me. I was hesitant about posting this as this my first attempt at this type of photography and edit. But when I saw the back of my camera after taking it I knew I had to try. I should get better at these types of pictures since I never seem to sleep at night anyway. First time for everything!

I was listening to Stairway to Heaven when I started the process of posting this and had it titled as such. But the more I thought about it the more cliche it sounded. It does remind me of something similar to that though. Perhaps some of you will catch the reference to the title :) Even though it is imperfect in a million times I think the only way to see growth is by posting pictures along the way. It's astonishing to look back and see how we grow. I do that often with people here I follow. Some of you have been with me since the very beginning in my very humble efforts. Flickr will always be my first love when it comes to community. I have never experienced the same type of encouragement anywhere else that I experience here. Thank you for being with me on this journey, for growing with me and never failing to inspire me.

Love always,

Rachel

On 4 occasions within a 4-6 week period of time in 2022 Camden fell victim to 3 floods which closed the main bridge leading into the town.

Flood waters entered a number of residential buildings and also business houses resulting in huge financial and other losses.

Another victim of the flood who like others just started to get back on their feet were the team at Enzo's.

In the background it had all the appearances of yet more rain but fortunately it failed to eventuate.
