The Fisherman’s Hut is a favourite location for any photographers visiting Mullion Cove, after the sun had dipped below the clouds on my last visit there I headed back down the cliffs to get a shot of the hut, it does seem to suit a more subdued style of editing.

The rear entrance to John and Sunday Reed's house at Heide is now the main entrance for people who tour this historic section of the Heide Museum of Modern Art. Visitors are greeted by the whimsical and colourful windows of Mirka Mora (1928-2018). Mirka was a friend to many in the Melbourne art world, but most especially to the Reeds, who made her and husband George welcome when they first arrived in Australia in 1951.

Mirka's story is as amazing as her artistic creations. Miraculously she survived the Holocaust and went on to be an inspirational figure in the Australian contemporary art world. www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-14/mirka-mora-holocaust-survi...

......to the cave. This track leads to Thor's Cave, the back of which is the large flat topped rock to the right of the tallest tree. I've added an old photo of the front entrance to the cave below.

Excavations have shown that the cave was occupied by troglodytes as long as 10,000 years ago, and this occupation probably continued until Roman or Saxon times. These findings make it one of the oldest sites of human activity in the Peak District. Stone tools and the remains of a range of now extinct animals were also found within the cave.

I've read that Sir David Attenborough (the famous British naturalist and national treasure) cycled here from his home in Leicestershire in his teens, and was completely blown away by the cave and it's history.

It's not quite Autumn officially yet here in Minnesota, but you can see the subtle changes in the colors.. The Monarchs are migrating now and this Monarch was on this group of flowers for over a half hour..I was at the pond and walked around the whole thing and came back and he was still drinking nectar from the flowers! It was extremely windy.. I admire them for their tenacity and they are my very favorite butterflies! ; )

Have a nice day! Off until tomorrow sometime. ☮

Cebu City, Philippines

Magellan's Cross

Standing under a Spanish-styled pavilion in Cebu City, Philippines is a large wooden cross that claims to be the one planted by famed explorer Ferdinand Magellan, yet some believe it is nothing but a replica.

According to the etched plaque at the base of the cross, it is actually made of more recent wood which covers the original crucifix planted in 1521. The story goes that upon his arrival upon the Philippine shores, Magellan ordered the cross set-up by his fellow explorers to mark Europe and Catholicism’s first contact with the islands. In the centuries following the first contact, the cross earned a reputation as a holy item and visitors looking to take away a souvenir or even a supernatural relic began chipping away at the cross until it began to fall apart completely. Before the cross disappeared the city of Cebu which had grown up around the site covered the aging original with all new wood so that it could last for centuries to come. While this is the largely accepted version of the story its also possible that is simply untrue.

It is also believed by some that Magellan’s Cross is nothing more than a recreation of the original which was stolen or destroyed not long after it was placed. No one has yet verified which tale is true, the cross and its ornate chapel remain a popular pilgrimage site for locals and tourists alike.

I just came out of the shady forest and I spotted this Anna's Hummingbird raiding a spider's web for breakfast. The hummer was looking around the conifer for bugs and spotted this spider web where it plucked the spider's trapped prey out for it's own breakfast.

I always believed that Lady's Slippers were good luck. At least that's what my father told me growing up so I wouldn't pick them. Good luck to find them, but bad luck to pick them.

I'm still waiting for the luck!

We have good opportunities to photograph this uncommon and beautiful Sparrow this season due to drier conditions in the local wetlands. These conditions favor the LeConte's and Nelson's Sparrows. They both nest in the Sedges which are now closer to the trail. I posted three shots of this LeConte's in different attitudes to help with identification. This shot shows it singing.

The sound it makes does not seem consistent with the effort it makes to produce it.

This composite image was created by Roger (The) Appleman using one of my images as the base. He found some appropriate vintage cars to skillfully add to the scene and opened the garage door so we could see what's inside.

I would highly recommend that you visit his Flickr site to witness more of his skills at work. You'll see some very impressive and creative work there.

“Fool's Gold” is technically known as pyrite or iron sulfide (FeS2) and is one of the most common sulfide minerals. Sulfide minerals are a group of inorganic compounds containing sulfur and one or more elements. ... Pyrite is called “Fool's Gold” because it resembles gold to the untrained eye.

Woodson's Mill

Piney River, VA

This Grist Mill is on the National Register of Historic Places. This is a fine example of a 19th Centry Mill. This one is a bit unique as it has two water wheels, one on each of the mill. The mill was originally constructed in 1794 by Guildford Campbell and was called "Big Piney Mill". The present structure on the foundation of the original mill, is four stories and was completed in 1845.

2: Queen’s Ferry runs a daily sky route between Queen’s Resort and Andor. A few dozen tourists fly on it every month, making it the most inefficient use of coal on any route I’ve ever flown. It’s the most luxurious ship to ever wander the skies, built fifteen years ago at a massive expense by WINGS.

You can imagine my excitement when WINGS hired me to fly Queen’s Ferry. I signed and started the same day. Queen’s Ferry is a beauty, shining inside and out. I’ve loved all my airships, but this one is special. I love the way it speeds smoothly through the skies, the way the warmth of the balloon soaks through the cabin, the way the hold creaks eerily and the way the wind moans through it as though there were something alive down there.

I’ve flown Queen’s Ferry for four years now and enjoyed every moment. Well, almost every moment. Sometimes I ask myself questions, and I don’t want to know the answers.

Has no one else has ever questioned the real purpose of Queen’s Ferry?

Why did WINGS spend millions to build an airship for a few hundred tourists a year? Why do they continue to spend twice as much on fuel as they recoup in passenger tickets?

Why is the hold always locked? Why does the wind moan through it like a troubled spirit?

What am I really carrying?

In four years of flying I’ve saved up enough to take a vacation. I’m going to get some answers.

—Anna Kant

(continued)

I realized after starting on this airship that the concept art I was using for inspiration was one of the ones from the contest posters--see if you can recognize which one! I mean, it should be obvious. XD Also, take a guess: is the sky background real or not?

Took me about five days to build this which was three more than I had planned. But I really wanted to get it just right and there were some really tricky SNOT parts and also it just kept getting bigger and bigger!

I hemmed and hawed a bit on doing a canvas balloon on top, I was afraid it would be the low effort solution. Let's just say after doing it, I no longer think it was low effort. Respect to everyone who does cloth sails!

S.O.S by ABBA

Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find

I try to reach for you but you have closed your mind

Whatever happened to our love? I wish I understood

It used to be so nice, it used to be so good

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me, S.O.S.

The love you gave me, nothing else can save me, S.O.S.

When you're gone

How can I even try to go on?

When you're gone

Though I try, how can I carry on?

You seemed so far away, though you were standing near

You made me feel alive but something died, I fear

I really tried to make it up, I wish I understood

What happened to our love, it used to be so good

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me, S.O.S.

The love you gave me, nothing else can save me, S.O.S.

When you're gone

How can I even try to…

Bachman's Sparrow (Peucaea aestivalis)

This sparrow has a very particular habitat preference. It lives in mature pine forests that are not overgrown. It needs an open understory below the trees with dense grassy areas to provide cover. They are secretive, and forage on the ground. During breeding season, however, the males will sing from pine branches.

We heard a male singing and went to investigate when this very young (judging by the yellow gape) Bachman's flew up onto a branch right in front of us.

Have to love the young ones that don't know to fly away right away :)

This sparrow shares habitat with the endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker - both species suffering from the loss of habitat.

Longleaf pines were once one of the most extensive forests in the United States, but 97% of the habitat has been lost. What is left is fragmented and in poor condition.

Hello my batfamily.

After seing Hass Kabal's UCS Batmobile with all those fantastic details,i decided to do the same.

I added all the white marks/arrows on the proper places and detailed the hubcabs,i know that those gold things are not gold in-game but i like how it looks with gold better. Also i know they're quite sloppy but in my defense the gold & silver paints that i use are a bit difficult to work with i tried my best to make them look good or atleast descent.

Have a great week.
