This is a photograph from a set of photographs taken at the second running of the Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall GFC 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Finea, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday August 21st 2013 at 19:30. The race was unique in the fact that it provided participants to run in two counties (Westmeath and Cavan) and two provinces (Ulster and Leinster) in Ireland during the same race. The race started on the Cavan side of the famous bridge of Finea and finished on the banks of the river. Finea is a beautiful Irish village which is well known for its scenery and it's position in the beautiful landscape of North Westmeath amongst the lakes and hills. The area attracts tourists for fishing and game shooting every year.
The race was very well organised with excellent stewarding and support and great community involvement. Well done to everyone involved. This race has the ability to grow in strength each year.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was about 150 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.
Weather: There was mild August evening. There was a tail wind supporting the runners for the first 3Km but this turned into a strong head-wind for the final 2km of the race.
Course: The race starts and finishes at either side of the Bridge of Finea. The Bridge End Bar was the start where the race went out 400m on the Granard road and runners turned around at cone and headed back into Co. Westmeath over the bridge and the 1km mark. Following the Castlepollard Road the race took at left at the 2km and followed a loop back past the National School and back into Finea village again for a finish down on the banks of the River Inny. The course was a tough undulating course but fair. Any short hills were balanced out by adequate down-hill the other side. The stewards provided excellent traffic management on what is a busy section of road between the 1st KM and the final KM and the finish.

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches and home-made breads in the Bridge End Bar afterwards.

But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

This is a photograph from the annual Na Fianna AC "Bob Heffernan" 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Johnstownbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Tuesday 19th May 2015 at 20:00. The race has gained a glowing reputation as being one of the fastest 5KM road races in Ireland. This race commemorates the years of work and volunteering that local man Bob Heffernan gave to Meath, Leinster, and Irish athletics from grass roots upwards and his work with the host club Na Fianna AC who have a catchment area in this part of rural North Kildare and South Meath. The race, known affectionately by club-members as simply "Bob's race" is a fitting tribute to commemorate his contribution to this sport. Today's race had another very large attendance with over 420 registered participants. There was a wonderful atmosphere as runners from all over Leinster gathered for a great night's racing. The very changeable and unseasonably weather of late made for an unpredictable night weather wise. A shower of hail fell on runners between 2KM and 3KM and yet this shower didn't fall on the finish area at the Hamlet Court Hotel.
This race is part of the annual Meath Road Race League despite the fact that the race is run completely in County Kildare. The Na Fianna club, who organise the race, have a catchment area of South Meath and North West Kildare. The current route for the race has stayed the same over the past few years. However previous to that the race was held in Enfield and also Rathmoylan in County Meath. This road race has grown from strength to strength year on year and is now one of the premier 5KM races in Ireland and one of the top club attended races in Leinster. The race starts on the busy Enfield to Endenderry road and this requires a big effort from stewards and marshalls. However, as always, the event was a resounding success with personal bests and great runs from many of the participants.

Finally sprung for the Canon 135mm F2.0 L and everything I've read about it was true. I'll be having a lot of fun with this for the summer.
Minimal editing:
- No saturation boost
- No vignetting added
- Light sharpening for the web
- Small curves adjustment as I accidentally underexposed by 1/3 of a stop

This is a photograph from the 11th annual running of the Tom Brennan Memorial 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held on Furze Road, Phoenix Park, Chapelizod, Dublin, Ireland on New Year's Day Friday 1st January 2016 at 12:00. The race route is a two loop course which starts and finishes on the Furze Road in the middle of the Phoenix Park. Participants follow a clockwise, right-handed, route around Furze Road, Ordnance Survey and Chesterfield Avenue. The weather was not the best for fast racing. A very very strong stormy headwind into the faces of participants along Chesterfield Avenue made this particular section tough going for everyone. There was also a particularly cold icy feel in the air. However several hundred runners, joggers and walkers braved the elements to take part.
The race is organised and promoted by the local athletics club Liffey Valley Athletic Club who are based in Islandbridge, Dublin 8 and have a catchment area around this part of Dublin city.
The race commemorates the memory and contribution of former club member Tom Brennan who won the National Cross Country Championships in 1975 in UCD Belfield at the age of 24 years. A special commemorative perpetual trophy is presented to the winner of the race every year. The race is also of particular interest to those runners, joggers and walkers who are not necessarily involved in the competitive side of the race. Annually the race is the first of a series of races in Dublin city which make up the Lord Mayor’s 5 Alive Challenge. This initiative by Dublin City Council is now in its fourth year and over 300 runners, joggers and walkers volunteer to take part in five of Dublin’s most popular road races. The Liffey Valley Club and many other volunteers work hard to make this a very successful event. It provides a splendid opening of the New Year for runners of all abilities. It is also a fitting 'official' start to the new year of road racing in the Dublin and North Leinster region.

A capital portuguesa foi palco, no último domingo, de mais uma edição da gigantesca prova da Rock 'n' Roll Maratona de Lisboa EDP. Com dezenas de milhares de participantes distribuídos por três distâncias (42, 21 e 6 quilómetros), as cores vibrantes da superação de quem corre encheram as ruas de Lisboa. A equipa EM'Força esteve, pelo segundo ano consecutivo, presente no acompanhamento dos nossos atletas e contámos com 35 participantes. Um número fabuloso!
Na distância principal, foram vários os estreantes da Maratona. Os 42 quilómetros e 195 metros continuam a ser o grande chamariz de quem corre e isso não mudou na edição de 2015. Com um total de 17 participantes nesta distância, tivemos 16 atletas a terminar a prova (apenas o João Dias não conseguiu terminar, devido a uma lesão) e a somarem mais uma grande conquista.
O grande destaque vai, claro, para a segunda Maratona do nosso Alexandre Dias. Com Esclerose Múltipla há já vários anos, em 2014 abraçou este desafio pela primeira vez e agora está a triplicar a meta: três maratonas num mês. A primeira foi esta, em Lisboa; a segunda será já este domingo, em Frankfurt; e a terceira está guardada para a reedição da conquista de 2014, no Porto, no início de novembro.
A acompanhá-lo nesta prova, tivemos os seguintes atletas, a quem agradecemos por toda a solidariedade e endereçamos os parabéns por esta grande conquista: Antônio Nascimento, Carlos Grade, Daniel Ramos, Dário Ferreira, Duarte Pinheiro, Edgar Trigo, Jorge Manuel Silva, Luís Graça, Marta Andrade, Paulo Alves, Paulo Duarte, Paulo Ferreira, Pedro Jaime, Renato Marques e Sandra Carvalho.
Meia Maratona
Também na distância da meia maratona a festa das camisolas Mágicas foi em grande. Com uma participação de 14 atletas, as conquistas impressionaram pela superação dos nossos rostos solidários. A vestir a Mágica pela terceira vez numa prova desta distância este ano, o nosso Pedro Braga (com Esclerose Múltipla) igualou a marca dos 99 quilómetros pela EM'Força com mais uma grande prova.
De camisola Mágica ao peito, tivemos outros 13 atletas a somarem os 21 quilómetros da Ponte Vasco da Gama, a quem agradecemos toda a solidariedade: Amélia Martins, António Pedro Teixeira, Carlos Ferreira, Cláudia Rato, Eládio Manuel, João Filipe Lourenço, Júlio Verde, Margarida Santos, Paulo Gandum, Ricardo Ferreira, Ricardo Valente e Tiago Sendim.
Mini Maratona
Na distância mais curta, da travessia da Ponte Vasco da Gama em 6 quilómetros, contámos com 4 atletas a vestir a camisola Mágica, dois deles com Esclerose Múltipla: o José Martins e a Luísa Matias. I have a favourite spot in a forest in Oslo. It opens up in a field where this female tree is running in different dresses all year round ... Wonderful!
This is a photograph from the 4th Annual Meath Spring Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races hosted by Bohermeen AC on the 8th March 2015 at 12:00 at Bohermeen, Ardbraccan, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland. A 10KM race was also held and started one hour before the half marathon. This event has grown quickly in popularity over the past few years with this year's entry of 1,168 with this being a record for both races. The half marathon had 843 entrants while the 10KM race had 325 entrants. This half marathon event is perfectly placed in the Irish running calendar as it provides runners of all levels and abilities an opportunity to test the half marathon distance in preparation for a Spring Marathon or as the first serious running goal in 2015. Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful.

The weather was very suitable for road racing with the exception of a strong headwind at certain parts of the course. However the cool, dry sunny conditions were suitable for fast times and PB performances from runners.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. Estábamos paseando por el puente Westminster cuando estas chicas vinieron de ninguna parte y empezaron a correr en el mismo sitio. Al principio pensamos que estaban preparándose para cruzar la calle (pero eso sería suicidarse, pensamos) pero les vimos sonreír. Sí, sonreían mientras corrían sin moverse de su posición original. Así que les sonreí y empecé a correr con ellas. Me vieron y comenzaron a animarme con grititos de alegría con sus sonrisas brillantes.
No sé muy bien qué me movió a empezar a correr, pero estaban tan contentas que no pude hacer otra cosa más que ser feliz también. Era un día soleado en Londres.

We were having a walk through the Westminster bridge when these girls came from nowhere and starting running in the same place. At first we though they were going to cross the street (but that would be like suicide, we though) but we saw them smiling. Yeah, smiling while running without moving from its original position. So I smiled too and started to run with them. They saw me and started to cheer me up with their shining smiles.
I don't really know what moved me to start running, but they were so happy I couldn't help but feel happy too. It was a sunny day in London.
This is a photograph from the annual Ardagh Moydow Glen Community Games 5KM and 10 Mile road races, fun runs, walks and challenges which were held in the heritage village of Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland on Saturday 30th December 2017 at 13:00. This year's race featured the change from last year's race where the race seen the introduction of chip timing, a new start and finish in the middle of the village at the community center and, a slightly amended route.

The 10 mile race takes in the local 'Ardagh Mountain' which is a 1 mile continuous climb starting at the 2.5 mile mark of the 10 mile race. There is, of course, then the reward of a long down-hill stretch after the summit. The remainder of the race is The 5KM race takes a loop around the heritage village of Ardagh. Overall this is a very well organised race with accurate courses, good marshalling and traffic control and excellent after race refreshments. The 10 mile race is one of the longest road races held during the Christmas period anywhere in Ireland and has appeal to runners who want to add a longer distance race to their festive calendar of running.
The weather at this year's race was very cold and windy. The rain managed to stay away but a very cold northerly breeze certainly made conditions cold. Whatever wind advantage there was for the runners was not experienced until the second half of the race. In 2014 there was very frosty icy weather and last year in 2015 participants were given a very very windy day with heavy rain at the finish of both races. The 2016 event seen very suitable weather for road racing.
Ardagh is probably County Longford's most picturesque village with many historical and architecturally important features. It is located about 6 miles from Longford town.
