Longtail engine repair, most use old Toyota 1.5 or 2litre diesel engines.
The long-tail boat is a type of watercraft native to Southeast Asia, which uses a common automotive engine as a readily available and maintainable powerplant. A craft designed to carry passengers on a river may include a lightweight long canoe hull, up to 30 meters, and a canopy. There is much variation among these boats, and in rural areas they may be improvised from bamboo and traditional materials—the sole defining characteristic is a secondhand car or truck engine.
This engine is invariably mounted on an inboard turret-like pole which can rotate through 180 degrees, allowing steering by thrust vectoring. The propeller is mounted directly on the driveshaft with no additional gearing or transmission. Usually the engine also swivels up and down to provide a "neutral gear" where the propeller does not contact the water. The driveshaft must be extended by several meters of metal rod to properly position the propeller, giving the boat its name and distinct appearance.
Advantages to the inboard engine with a long driveshaft include keeping the engine relatively dry. Following the basic design pattern allows a variety of engines to be attached to a variety of different kinds of hulls. This flexibility simplifies construction and maintenance while sacrificing the efficiency and comfort that might be expected of a typical mass-produced product.
Cooling to the engine is provided by a shaped metal pipe strewn underneath the rear running board which is used as a rudimentary heat-exchanger. This is then coupled to the engine using rubber or plastic hoses. Clean water is then used as the coolant.
Control is achieved by moving the engine with a lever stick attached to the inboard side. Ignition and throttle controls provide simple means to control this simple craft. Larger boats may include more than one "tail," with several operators piloting in tandem.
This little dog was ripping around the field, last night, holding his own easily in the social environment where all the other dogs were larger. Janice and I don't think we'll be returning to the daily off-leash festival at the local park. Our dog, Guiness, is only getting more nervous as he watches the others play. When others come up to meet him, he always declines the invitation to run with them.
Some smaller critters... Ground Squirrels are always fun to photograph and good for practicing various techniques. One challenge in the spring, in the Arctic, are the heat waves coming from the bare ground between the snow patches and affecting the focus. You have to get close or work during the cooler hours at night (midnight sun). Taken at Ulurvik, 30 miles north of Kugluktuk, Nunavut, in mid-May.

At track speed thru the siding switch at Genoa, IL enroute to Byron, IL Thanks to Jason and Joel who I just followed thru the crowd of foamers to get this spot at the last second for a quick set of approach shots. Unfortunately the CPRR cop mUCKED up the ideal shooting location with his big a** SUV
- Day Four -
After visiting Two-Medicine Lake, we continued on our little journey with the map we got from the curio shop owner. We found a place to park and hiked up to a secluded place where we found a waterfall unlike I've ever seen - Running Eagle Falls. During the spring time, there are two flowing falls, one from inside (as photographed) and one over top. During the fall, only the inner waterfall is flowing.
Before heading back West to Whitefish, we drove on a winding road with aspen forests surrounding each side. It was beautiful and refreshing, a relaxing way to end our adventure for the day.

Running Eagle lived many years ago, long before European contact in the early 1700's. She was born here in the heart-land of the Amskapi-Pikuni, next to the shining mountains. Running Eagle was a real mortal person, not mythical.
Running Eagle's life story is an illustrious saga of leadership and many victories that are famous to this day.
The story of her life was told by Pikuni elders in a true oral traditional manner. Running Eagle is the only young woman of the Pikuni people to have gone on a four day fast; to suffer, dream, pray and find her medicine. High above the beautiful falls, her vision was successful. This is a most sacred and respected site, named in her honor by the Pikuni people. In those early days, only young men of certain societies had the special privilege to fast and receive their power.
Running Eagle became a true woman warrior for courage and bravery in all her accomplishments and deeds. Running Eagle was a great horsewoman, a fast runner and excellent hunter. She was kind, thoughtful, and a generous person. With precise perfection, Running Eagle made everything, including her spear, quiver, bows & arrows, all of her horse accouterments of those days. She was out-standing in her warrior-woman attirement of white buck-skin decorated with dyed quill work. She wore a splendid straight up eagle feather war bonnet and carried a shield.
The true exciting stories of her prowess on war parties, raids, adventures, and counting coup unfolded many times in lodges throughout the land. In the time of her teenage years, Running Eagle became the head of her father's painted lodge after his death. It was then she raised her brothers and sisters, and took care of the extended family in accordance with Pikuni laws and traditions.
Running Eagle was a tall and beautiful woman, with long black braids, and walked a straight religious path with grace, pride, and honor. Near her 30th year, Running Eagle went on her last raid across the Continental Divide where she was killed by the Flathead in their territory.
The Pikuni warriors brought her back up to Upper Two Medicine Lake and buried her in a tree on the mountain overlooking the falls. The Pikuni people hold Running Eagle in very high esteem for her knowledge and wisdom, and the inspiring person she became."

While running in Boston, I was jumping over garbage bags and landed on top of a beer box. I tripped, and this was the result. Ouch.
Update: The X-rays are in; it is merely a sprain. Ask me how frustrating the (Pittsburgh? American?) health care establishment is sometime.
The reflective steel panel forming part of David Raffini's DEFIGURER exhibition at Le Vieux Port, Nice, France.
This is a photograph from the second round of the Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 14th May 2014 at 20:00. The race follows the roads and trails around Belvedere and is a very testing 5KM route. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Over 380 people took part in tonight's event. The weather was much improved on last week with warm and mild conditions for the race.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. This is a photograph from the annual "Good2Talk" Rathowen 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Rathowen Village, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 11th June 2014 at 20:00. There was a turn-out of over 150 people for the race which took place on a wonderfully warm, calm summer's evening. Registration took place in St Mary’s Hall Rathowen where refreshments were also served after the race. The race was a fund-raiser for Good 2 Talk. Good 2 Talk is a counselling therapy clinic based in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. They offer counselling and therapy at affordable costs. The race is held as a fund-raiser to help Good 2 Talk to continue offering these vital counselling services to the people in this region of the Midlands. The race started 1KM west of Rathowen Village on the N4. The race then proeeded eastwards through the Village and then took at left at 1KM outside the village towards Abbeylara. The race then follows a small boreen road (L5926) back to the finish in Rathowen Village.
