Ruby-throated Hummingbird , Kamoka Provincial Park

With the hummingbirds migrating south, we've had quite a few visiting our feeder.

A little tongue action from a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Taken handheld at 300mm through the kitchen window.

Snapshot taken through my kitchen window.

The day started out dark and cloudy with a storm in the Gulf Of Mexico. This shot was taken just before the heavy rain started. This little hummingbird got wet because he just would not give up his feeder and stood on guard.

Although my feeder has been quite active all summer, activity seems to have picked up recently. I suspect that the ruby-throated hummingbirds (Archilochus colubris) are getting ready to migrate.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird

My little friends have moved on to spend the winter in Central America = (

I've heard reports of Rufous Hummingbirds showing up in our area as late as December. This would be extremely rare if I actually had one come to my feeders.

I'll keep the feeders full just the same.

I was hoping to capture a few feeding on flowers in my garden but they were all about the feeder today.
