Sure, the giant arrows, mad looking bunnies and Teepee motels always were kitch but I think the kitch made Route 66 the fun road it was.
You can still catch a lot of that fun and excitement in your next road trip. Just get off the Interstate for a few hours and drive on Historic Route 66 or any of the other US routes. You ain't lived until you bite into a juicy piece of alien jerky, or eat at a roadkill cafe, or go look at some dinosaur tracks. I love the kitch!

This photo-video takes a trip along Route 66 - the Mother Road, in California. Photographed in 2012 and 2013.
After spending several days in Las Vegas we moved to Kingman, Arizona for a couple days. Yesterday we drove on Route 66 to Seligman. So much colorful kitsch!

Semaphore signals have guarded the Santa Fe mainline over Raton and Glorieta Pass since before World War II. Not even fifty years after the Santa Fe ran its last Super Chief and El Capitan through New Mexico, many of these blades have continued to guard the last two regular trains on this route and any extra movements.

RF539 and TEH1233 are seen on Highgate Hill while working on the Route 210 to Finsbury Park. The RF was covering this route as part of the Holloway Garage Open Day. (09/07/16)

Shortly before Harris took over the route from Selkent - 13 February 1998. Long-time preserved RT1702, plus Stagecoach East London's RM1599 did a run over the route.
