Cho Oyu is seen on the horizon just left of center in this shot looking north taken on the way home from a 10-day trek in Bhutan. Long listed as the eighth highest mountain on earth at 8,153 m (26,749 ft.), a survey conducted in 1996, found the elevation to be 8,188 m (26,864 ft.), which places it as the sixth highest mountain on earth. The peak lies some 283 km (176 mi.) west-northwest of Paro, Bhutan, and 136 km (84 mi.) east-northeast of Kathmandu, Nepal. The border between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region, China, lies along the ridge seen here with the Tibetan Plateau beyond. The peak at far right is Gyachung Kang (7,952 m, 26,089 ft.). The saddle just seen at far left is the Nangpa La (5,806 m, 19,049 ft.), a pass which lies along a traditional trade route between Tibet and the Khumbu region of Nepal. All the mountains seen here on the Nepal side of the border lie in Province No.1, and Sagarmatha National Park, which was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

Royal Route 66

This is the iconic Roy's neon sign in Amboy, CA, along historic Route 66. Illuminated during the exposure by a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 light painting device. After two long years, my night photography friends and I got together for an eight-night trip to Nevada and California. This was a 1856-mile night photography safari with Tim Little, Mike Cooper, and George Loo, and George the monkey. This is in an upcoming book about abandoned Route 66 at night that will be due out in the spring. Thank you.

Getting off Route 37 in Novato on Harbor Drive toward Black Point and the Black Point Boat Launch, the bridge that carries Route 37 over the Petaluma River came into view with the light hitting it just right on an otherwise stormy afternoon.
I'd wanted to drive across this mountain pass in Sept 2016, but on the day it was planned there had been early snow overnight on the higher ground, so I had to postpone. On my visit in early August I got perfect dusk light and conditions for the drive.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. December 2021. Located nearby the El Vado and the Monterey, but this one did not get the same beautiful renovation and only the sign remains of this motel.
While you are here, you may take a look at my full Albuquerque 2021 photo walk in this album.

A small slot canyon along the Escalante Route, Grand Canyon National Park. The Escalante Route is an unmaintained trail that connects the New Hance Trail to the Tanner Trail. The trail is renowned as being one of the most beautiful trails not only in the park but also the country (backpacker magazine rated it the #2 trail in the country, behind the John Muir Trail of California). The trail begins at the terminus of the New Hance Trail, at the Hance Rapids, and heads east, quickly climbing a very steep landslide to beautiful views above the river. The trail narrows, and eventually begins twisting through several small slot canyons (one of which is shown here). Eventually, the trail climbs several thousand feet above the river, with amazing views of the canyon, until descending to Tanner Beach following the Unkar Cliffs.
To give some scale to the shot, the boulder in the canyon is massive, and the drop beneath it was too big to make without ropes. We had to climb up and around to get past the obstruction.
please view it large, otherwise you would miss some details of the extreme panorama.
Route 1 is the ring road which goes around iceland. Using the road is a classical use of a leading line. I like, how it pulls the eye to the right. It gives an aditionally dynamic to the look into the wide from foreground to background.
