on the road ......

This was the night before our last day on Route 66. I envisioned a shot like this all along the route and I was happy that I was able to pick it up the last night. It is somewhere east of Barstow California.

I used the headlights from our car to light up the Route 66 emblem in the road and did some HDR and a little blending for one of my favorite shots from the trip.

Oct. 19, 2021: Stop in Holbrook, Arizona. Holbrook, Arizona, was founded in 1881 and gained famed as a classic wild west town. Called a town "too tough for women and churches," Holbrook in 1914 was the only county seat in the United States without a church. The early Mormon settlers had left. Many residents served with Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders in the 1898 Spanish-American War. Today the Route 66 community of 5,000 is known for petrified wood stores and dinosaur sculptures.

A pause to pick up at the station! RM 2050 follows.

2012 is the 100th anniversary of bus route 38, and on Sunday 17th June Arriva marked the occasion by running three Routemasters from its Heritage Fleet as 'extras'. These were also joined by an RTL and RTW from the London Bus Company. No fares were charged on these buses, but passengers were invited to make a donation to Maggie's Cancer Charity. A vintage K-type bus dating from 1921 also traversed the route, carrying invited guests. As three of the 'New Bus 4 London' were also operating, the route attracted a lot of attention.

LT4, the fourth of the 'New Bus 4 London' prototypes, is seen apulling away from the stop at Islington Angel on its way to Hackney Central - at the moment these buses do not operate to Clapton. The front and centre doors are firmly shut, but the rear platform remains open; it is being supervised by a second crew member. He/she does not collect fares, so is not a conductor in the traditional sense of the word. If this person is not present the rear platform is closed off.

This is a photograph from the Ringtown Hurling Club Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races, fun runs, and walks which were held in Whitehall, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Easter Monday (April 6th 2015) at 11:00 and 11:15 respectively. Ringtown Hurling club is situated in Whitehall which is on the R394 between Mullingar and Castlepollard. The half marathon started outside the GAA club. The 10KM race started about 1KM away from the start/finish area. Both races shared the same route. The race event was also a fundraiser for the charity TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accomodation Mullingar) which provides emergency accomodation for women and children of the midlands who are subject of domestic and sexual violence. They are located at Teach Fáilte, Green Road, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. 55 participants took part in the Half marathon while approximately 85 participants took part in the 10KM.

Our full set of photographs from today's event are available on Flickr at the following link https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157651783292685/

Don't forget to scroll down to see more information about the race and these photographs!

Event Management and Timing was provided by PRECISION TIMING. The results from today's events can be found on Precision Timing's website at this URL [www.precisiontiming.net/result.aspx?v=2530]. You can checkout their facebook page at www.facebook.com/davidprecisiontiming?fref=ts

The half marathon started at the GAA club. The main loop of 6 miles started here at the GAA club and proceeded around some beautiful rural back roads with major turns at [goo.gl/maps/8Iw9S], [goo.gl/maps/in6yE], and [goo.gl/maps/JJzwM] before joining up with the R394 and Castlepollard and returning back to Ringtown/Whitehall. The 10KM race was held on this same route but having departed before the half marathon the participants were mostly infront of the main field in the half marathon.

This was the GAA club's second hosting of this event and the overwhelming reaction of participants was that it went perfectly again following on from last year's very successful event. There was a team of Motorcycle outriders and Gardai who expertly controlled traffic flow (particularly along the very busy R394) and made for very safe running conditions for all participants. There was a wonderful selection of refreshments provided afterwards and maybe people were able to sit out in the sun and enjoy a well earned rest after the race. Shower facilities were provided in the GAA club.

I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Ambtenaren Toertocht Zuidoost Friesland, 16 juni 2023, sfeerimpressie

Route D8 is due to have its own changes from Saturday 1st October. It will swap routeings with the 108 north of Poplar, operating to Stratford Bus Station via the Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach, Bromley-by-Bow and Stratford High Street. This will enable it to be double-decked which will help meet anticipated future demand in the area. In its place the 108, already restricted to single-deck operation because of the Blackwall Tunnel, will take over the route to Stratford International via the low bridge in Carpenters Road.

Just eight days before the changes, Go-Ahead Enviro200s SE146 and SE149 are seen at the Crossharbour terminus next to the ASDA store, awaiting departure to Stratford International.

I used to shop at one of these.

TG&Y was a five and dime, or variety store, chain in the United States. The chain was named for its three founders: Rawdon E. Tomlinson, Enoch L. "Les" Gosselin, and Raymond A. Young. The initials were ordered according to the age of the three, with Tomlinson being the oldest. Founded in 1935, the chain was headquartered in Oklahoma City. At its peak, there were more than 900 stores.[1][2]

It was acquired by McCrory Stores in 1986, when it had about 720 stores. Shortly after McCrory's purchased TG&Y, that company cut over 8,000 employees and closed 205 stores, including 23 in its former home-state of Oklahoma.[3] It did business under the TG&Y Family Center and later TG&Y Dollar and Aim for the Best and Dollar-T names as well.

T G & Y stores were firmly embedded in southern culture as modern-day general stores with a bit of everything, and often called by the irreverent moniker, "Turtles, Girdles, and YoYos." [4] Toward the end of its successful years, the chain used the advertising slogan, "Your best buy is at TG&Y."

In 2001, the chain filed bankruptcy and eventually all stores were closed.

John Darnielle (The Mountain Goats) references the chain in his song "From TG&Y". The rock band Nerf Herder also refer to the chain in their song "Van Halen".

This is a little tree-lined street in San Dimas, California. When I think of Route 66, this image is not what comes to mind.

One of the earlier alignments of Route 66 ran (heading west) along E Foothill Blvd. In San Dimas, when Foothill Blvd changes to Alosta Avenue, Route 66 turns north on Amelia Avenue and turns west again on (old) E Foothill Blvd. It turns south again at Citrus Avenue and rejoins the current E Foothill Blvd heading west.

Former Clontarf Garage RV 501 seen operating route 31A to Strand Road in Howth in August 2004.

An offshoot of the main 31Howth bus, the 31A operated the same routing as far as Sutton Cross before branching off to the right along the Strand Road ( the back road to Howth ).

The route was absorbed into the 31B which operated via the Strand Road & onto Howth Summit/ Village & train station.

RV 501 was originally a wedding bus at Clontarf & now operated as an open topper for Dualways Citysightseeing Dublin tour.
