Wigwam Motel #6 - still alive and well on Historic Route 66! Only three of Frank Redford's Wigwam motels are still in business. This one is run by the son of Chester E. Lewis, who originally built the iconic concrete teepees back in 1950. The 15 wigwams (1 through 16...no teepee 13) are still operated by family members.
The Blue Swallow (in Tucumcari, NM), along with the Wigwam Motels (Holbrook, AZ and San Bernadino, CA) provided inspiration when the Pixar team created Sally’s Cozy Cone Motel for the movie "Cars." The name "Cozy" was likely a nod to the Cozy Dog Drive-In in Springfield, IL.

On the 4th May 2024 Class 73/1 no.73136 leads 1Z73 0648 Eastleigh to Exeter Central into the bay platform at its destination with 59202, 59101 , 59104 and 33012 on the rear.
Asus WL-520GU with added serial header hacked per mightyohm.com's instructions for WiFi radio. Added python script on the router to parse wunderground.com RSS weather feeds and send them via serial port to Atmega168 (or Arduino). Display is repurposed Epson Point of Sale VFD.
Driving Route 66
I found this old Motel, abandoned and halfway collapsed. The roofs are missing and the cabins only purpose is to serve as a dumpster storage for some locals...
I traveled Route 66 between the Kansas/Oklahoma state line and Oklahoma City. Equipped with a 1961 Road Map and a GPS, i am trying to find the remains of old Route 66

Hotel Features
Although it's classic Route 66 on the outside — down to the neon sign — this two-story motel is updated on the inside, with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, movie channels and a microwave and mini-fridge in all rooms, some non-smoking. Route 66 aficionados get a thrill from the motel's collection of antique cars and other memorabilia from the glory days of America's Mother Road. Parking is free, and pets are allowed for an additional charge.
