On a rather damp Saturday 23 November 2019, London bus route 140 Harrow-Heathrow celebrated its history and marked its imminent shortening by supplementing 15 heritage buses into the existing service. This meant Volvo / Wright Gemini buses (and a solitary Plaxton President) were joined by 8 RTs, 5 Routemasters and 2 Metrobuses for the day.
My visit included photo stops at Hayes, Heathrow and Harrow Weald taking advantage of free rides aboard RM1397, M1069 and RT2177.

Going along Route 66 through the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park, you run across an actual display honoring the Mother Road.
On the stand at Victoria Station the Route 38 New Routemaster In a smart green livery reminiscent of London Country Bus Services Ltd was incorporated on 9 October 1968 as a subsidiary of the nationalised Transport Holding Company in anticipation of the Transport (London) Act 1969, which on 1 January 1970 transferred London Transport's green Country Area buses and Green Line cross-London express coaches to the National Bus Company (NBC), at the same time as the red Central Area buses passed from the London Transport Board to the Greater London Council.
The company had a nominal share capital of £100 of which only £2 was paid up. The original subscribers were J D Tattersall and E M Walker, both employees of the Transport Holding Company. The company's paid up capital remained the same throughout its existence.
Staff who were employed before 1 January 1970, retained free travel throughout the original London Transport area. This arrangement continues today, with free pass wording changed to account for bus deregulation.
London Country's territory was likened to a circle around London with a hole in the middle, operating in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
The company was NBC's biggest subsidiary, starting life with 1,267 buses and coaches. The fleet was very elderly, being mainly 484 AEC Regent III RT double-deckers and 413 AEC Regal RF single-deckers, with eight Daimler Fleetlines, three Leyland Atlanteans, 209 AEC Routemasters, 14 AEC Reliances and 109 AEC Merlins.
Being from Cornwall this also reminds me of the Western national livery

Friday 3rd January 2025 and Metroline's commercial route 242 has been withdrawn. I'm surprised the route lasted this long really, not been financially viable without subsidy for a long time. Tomorrow the route will be operated by Uno, with an improved timetable that can only be achieved with the subsidy that it is now going to receive. The last Metroline vehicle on the route was DEL848 (LK08DVZ), seen in this photo at Theobalds Grove on 25th September 2019.

One has to wonder what, if anything, the double sided fluorescent fixture ever illuminated on a remote corner of two dusty roads in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps the truck pulled over in 1963 to investigate but subsequently gave up.
Taken while down at Baker beach. The wind was kicking that evening and made it hard to use the filters. But was fun spending some time waiting for the light to change on the beach!

Oct. 19, 2021: The "Bug House" is a 1984 creation of architect Bart Prince located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The home appears to be floating in mid-air. Area residents also refer the structure at the "Spaceship UFO House." While a private residence, there is lots to see from street level. Dinosaurs and other sculptures protect the property. A newer second aerial house also is located on the property.
