@dailyshoot #ds402: "Make a photograph of a circular or round object today".

It often happen that I focus on a single word in the DS assignments, today it was "round" and therefore are censoring myself.

45337 runs round at Yarwell Junction station after arriving with a train from Wansford.

Yesterday I spent a girly day with my mum.

We went to Waddesden Manor and walked around the grounds, had lunch and went into Colourscape. It was like nothing I've experienced before. They give you primary coloured cotton capes to wear before you go into the giant inflatable structure. Once inside, each of the rooms are lit in different colours, the centre dome had musicians which you could hear all the way around. It kind of felt like a cross between being inside a giant bouncy castle and walking on colourful clouds.

Omophron sp. (probably O. americanum). Found at Grant Park in South Milwaukee in south-eastern Wisconsin. Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, USA.

I found this individual in the small chamber you see here in moist sand under a drift log on a sandy Lake Michigan beach.

Prosopium cylindraceum

State Listed as Threatened in New Hampshire

This long, cylindrical fish stretches anywhere from 9-19 inches and has a small mouth with a pointed snout. Large golden-brown scales fade to white and allow the round whitefish to blend seamlessly into its surroundings. As a bottom feeder, the round whitefish preys on aquatic crustaceans, fish eggs, and newly hatched fry. This freshwater fish prefers deep, cold habitats such as Arctic seas, post-glacial lakes, rivers, and brackish waters. Northern populations, such as those in New England, more commonly inhabit rivers. In New Hampshire, the round whitefish is limited to only two bodies of water: Newfound Lake and the upper Connecticut River.

As a threatened species in New Hampshire, this fish faces many struggles. The introduction of invasive species, such as smallmouth bass and yellow perch, leads to competition for resources. These fish also prey on round whitefish, while juveniles duel for food. Human disturbances such as mining and shoreline development cause pollution and alterations to the natural environment these fish require for survival. Water fluctuation in winter can also expose vulnerable eggs to freezing temperatures. Maintaining a steady depth may increase egg survival after the spawning season, and encourage growth in future populations. Maintaining a buffer of vegetation around lakes and rivers where this fish is found can also promote cleaner waters, and protection against urban development is critical. Sadly, it is unclear how to help this fish survive its challenging circumstances though it is found in lakes from Alaska to New England, so perhaps it would be better to put resources in alternative locations, keeping out invasive species and supporting clean water and restricting human development.

I took this photo a couple of weeks ago and didn't know what to do with it. I liked it, but it didn't feel "ready".

It does today though as it's Back to School day in Scotland.
