Chelsea Flower show 2009 ... I was lucky to visit this incredible show again this year. Fascinating how the creativity in gardening seems to never end. Breathtaking flower arrangements and fantastic solutions for small, urban gardens. One cannot imagine what is possible even when there's only a few square metres you have to build a garden in.

I'm stunned by how the plant/flower nurseries got their "fosterlings" in such great shape exactly on the date. I wish I would have had more energy to see and photograph more.... This is only a collection of what there really was.

Second round but, no Second Chance ....

Round towers were built all over Ireland between 900 and 1200 AD at monasteries. They served as bell towers, a place of refuge during attacks (by the Vikings), and storage places for valuables and manuscipts. The entrance inside the base of the tower is often 13 ft above ground and is reached by a ladder, which is bauled up from inside during attacks.

Glendalough (glen = valley in Celtic, lough/ loch = lake, Glendalough = valley of the lakes) was an Early Celtic Christian monastery founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century. It flourished for over 600 years well into the 1200s. During its heyday, Glendalough included church buildings, a cathedral, a round tower, workshops, an infirmary, farm buildings and dwellings for both the monks and a large lay population; it was also a centre of learning, and manuscript copying and writing.

It was badly damaged by English troops in 1398. Its final demise happened around the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539 (blame Henry VIII).

Kevin of Glendalough’s life was not well-documented. He was said to have been born in 498 AD, out of one of the ruling families of Leinster. He studied priesthood and later founded the Glendalough monastery in the 6th century. He lived his life at Glendalough as a hermit monk, minimising outside contact. Nevertheless, his reputation as a holy man spread, and followers paid pilgrimage at Glendalough for centuries. St. Kevin supposedly died in 618 AD, suggesting that he lived for 120 years!

This abandoned roundhouse was built in 1915. Located near what used to be major railroad hub, the roundhouse was used by railroads for servicing up to 25 locomotives and steam engines. This large semicircular structure used to have a turntable in the middle of it which facilitated access to the engines.

Since it was used as a roundhouse, it was converted into a warehouse and expanded inward for semi truck access, making it much more shallow. A large percentage of the original structure was made of glass, but most of the windows were covered at the time of the conversion. The renovation also brought with it the addition of the huge warehouse to the south.

Quite some people has been wondering how this lighting is done. Its actually a strong spot light meant to light up the structure. We just utilize it as the main source of light in this picture. However one of the biggest problem was the light emitted is actually even warmer then tungsten which was quite a issue in the post processing.

a logo i created after visiting brisbane & being disturbed @ how many 'no' signs there were.

Namesake of Round Rock, TX, part of the Chisholm Trail

In 1851, a small community was formed on the banks of Brushy Creek, near a large round and anvil-shaped rock in the middle of the creek. This round rock marked a convenient low-water crossing for wagons, horses, and cattle. The first postmaster called the community "Brushy," and the creek was called "Brushy Creek". But in 1854, at the suggestion of the postmaster, the small settlement was renamed Round Rock in honor of this now famous rock. After the Civil War, Jesse Chisholm began moving cattle from South Texas through Round Rock on the way to Abilene, Kansas. The route he established, which crossed Brushy Creek at the round rock, became known as the Chisholm Trail.[17] Most of the old buildings, including the old Saint Charles Hotel, have been preserved. This historic area is now called “Old Town.”
