The surfers love this weather.

Es war kalt und ziemlich stürmisch - einzelne Surfer trauten sich aufs Wasser.
A dapper Rough Legged Hawk posing outside our car window in the later afternoon hours. Love it when they ignore you :) I really like this very light version.
this scene I have taken at 6.30 in the morning from another boat. The weather was very difficult and the skipper broke up our fishing tour 10 minutes later.

We made a second visit up North trying to cash in on our previous success two weeks before. Although conditions changed dramatically from the snowy landscape to the flooded farmlands now, I was able to find one cooperative Rough Legged that sat still as we rolled up to it. It sat there and just watched us as we took tons of shots. I was finally able to get very close shots. Image was not cropped. We even got closer ones on the next pass.

São Vicente (Portuguese for "Saint Vincent"), also Son Visent or Son Sent in Cape Verdean Creole, is one of the Barlavento islands of Cape Verde off the west African coast..
The island, of volcanic origin, is fairly flat. Its highest point is Monte Verde (green mountain), located in the northeast-central part with an altitude of 725 metres (2,379 feet).

This Buteo is the member of that hawk family in North America which is most associated with cold climates. They breed in the Arctic, and their winter migration range does not extend beyond the mid and south USA. We often observe them over wintering here in central Alberta.

A couple of days ago I put a mono image up of a walking trail leading to the top of a hill. Well, when you got to the top of the hill this is one of the sights to be found there. This narrow gorge felt the full impact of the Atlantic tide as the water rushed in and out again creating gushing water spouts where it sucked in and out of crevasses and half submerged caves. Quite a bit of pure and natural drama, most enjoyable to stand there and be immersed in the moment.
This Hawk will test you, happy to get a top view, they a Rough one for sure !
Thank you very much for your kind comments, favorites and looking and please stay safe !
This hawk sat on the post for several minutes, giving me the opportunity to take a number hof shots. He was a real beauty... Vicinity of Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, Missouri
An American Magpie (Pica hudsonia) patiently and I would say boldly waits next to Rough-legged Hawk (Buteo lagopus) as it feeds on a white goose, likely dead from the avian flu which occurred in the migrant flocks of geese in the area. It would attempt to scavenge any bits of scraps left by the hawk which was observed feeding in a stubble field east of Tofield, Alberta, Canada.
