An old A&W restaurant in Quebec City, Canada. Formerly had the curb service canopy.
As of 2013, completely renovated into a retro-style modern building.
This past Sunday was the Pacific Northwests annual XXX Rootbeer GTG, like every other year the cars were plentiful, the food is great, and the parkinglot was filled with many familiar faces.

My son and his good friend (on our right in this shot) are working very hard on achieving something called "Memory Master" in our Classical Conversations Homeschool Co-op. To become a Memory Master, they must have every fact memorized from 24 weeks of study, covering subjects such as Geography, History, English Grammar, and Science. It also includes a Timeline of History from Creation to Present Day that takes THIRTEEN MINUTES to recite in full. Oh, and math multiplications facts 1-15, all to the 15s. So, 15 x 15. All of it has to be memorized. It is hard work. So, after our study session today, we stepped out into the spring air with some pretty impressive rootbeer floats. My 8-year-old daughter (who hopes to try for Memory Master next year) joined us for the end of the study session and, of course, for the floats. :)

Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good. "

from which I removed the name "Hires" as their lawyers
might correctly object that Hires is NOT, and never has been, made from hemlock bark.

This building housed an A&W Drive-in Restaurant for many years before closing in the early 1990s. Today it houses a veterinary clinic, however its appearance remains largely unchanged - even still bearing the carhop ports.
Following its closure, there had been many attempts to return the A&W name to Bismarck before a permanent location opened at the corner of 3rd Street & Front Avenue in 1997. A second location was planned on State Street, and a building was even built, however it now houses a Wendy's instead.
Prior to that, Kirkwood Mall had a small concession stand with the A&W name, and Cenex on Divide also once housed an A&W Restaurant. Evidence of the former A&W Restaurant at the Cenex is still clearly visible, as it has not been altered since its closure.

As a kid we used to go to KN Root Beer on Butternut Street in Abilene and my parents would order us all a root beer. It would could come out to us in an ice cold frosted glass with root beer overflowing. The restaurant is no longer there but the memories are!
