With the overnight forecast saying there would be clear skies, I took advantage to drive out to another one of my dark sky spots to do some stargazing/astro shooting. Because I have such great luck, I was afforded the opportunity to be out for about an hour before the clouds started to roll in. As you can see from the shot, the clouds started rolling into my frame and when I decided to pack up, they encompassed the entire night sky.

I've been in the metal shop for the last few weeks, working on this 14' long steel shelf as well as other new components designed to "complete" my living space....1st part is now installed, but not finished....still in a very raw industrial state.
Shot with a Nikon D780 and a Rokinon 14mm F/2.8. Aperture is fully open at ISO3200 6s.
A half-moon significantly washed out the aurora. The city sky glow combined with the moon light resulted in an exposure gradient across the frame; this was normalized in processing however it contributed to the noise on the left side.

893 frames shot at a 7 second interval, and rendered at 30FPS. This results in playback that is 210x faster than real time.
Milky way images from Valley of the Gods Utah.
Valley of the Gods is a scenic sandstone valley that features stunning geologic formations. The statuesque formations are sculpted from Cedar Mesa sandstone dating to the Permian period, around 250 million years ago. Eroded by water, wind and ice over millions of years, the rock was carved into the unique buttes, monoliths (single massive stone or rock), pinnacles and other geological features seen today.
The orange hue in the images is the small town of Mexican Hat about 40 miles away.
The illuminated frame on the High Line. I went back for an alternative version and on this night was asked by a stranger to video his marriage proposal....she said yes!

I was asked to appear on an episode of Hoarders but I refuse to believe I have a hoarding problem.
On the Saturday night of my trip to Detroit, Brian Day asks me: "what are your plans for tomorrow?". I respond: "Going out with Detroit Liger". Brian: "you never know where you'll end up with the Liger." This is where we end up.

I scouted this location a few weeks ago, and because of the weather not cooperation, I did not get the chance to go to this place until this past Friday. With the moon set to rise at 10:30pm, I only had about an hour to shoot before I knew the milky way would be washed out. I also didn't take into consideration that the last effects of the sun would also be visible on the horizon. That's what the yellow at the bottom of the image represent. At this point, with my luck, I couldn't buy a clear night sky at this point.

The latest member in the expanding club of modern architectural sites in NYC. Fits in with The Oculus and the Fulton St Subway Station. Next visit will be to enter The Vessel. Interesting structure, wasn't sure I liked the copper cladding as it was being built but appreciate it more now that it's completed and saw it up close.
Did some interior and food shots for New River Pizza and Grill as well as some night shots and timelapse.
