Happy Thanksgiving, Flickr friends!!!
"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving; and into His courts with praise. . .for the Lord is good." Psalm 100: 4a, 5a
I spent Easter with two of my favorite people- George and Sarah. We went to a great park that I didn't even know existed in Flagler County. It once belonged to a woman who married an exiled Russian prince, and there was a lodge on the property that is seen in this picture. Rocking chairs on the porch overlook the river, and the majestic trees of the grounds. Here, George was posing nicely for me. Life is a compilation of bits and pieces that form its special moments.
It has 2006 when I first visited Cuba. I was still shooting film and had only started to venture into digital with a Minolta 7D.
This was taken in Vinales, a small farming town a few hours from Havana. The town consists mostly of one-story wooden houses with porches. And on most of these porches are colourful wooden seats.
The very popular rocking chairs always seem to be occupied at the New York Botanical Garden's Impressionism: Gardens On Canvas exhibit
What do you think, time to head out to IKEA and update my kitchen?

The Appalachian Clubhouse is a historic structure located in the Elkmont Historic District. It was used as a gathering spot by lessees and guests of the Appalachian Club, which was established in 1910. Club members, mostly from Knoxville, built rustic cabins nearby to serve as weekend or summer retreats in the years before the park was created. The original clubhouse was destroyed by fire and replaced by the exsiting building in 1934. The building has now been rehabilitated by the National Park Service to its appearance in the 1930s.
My zippy PowerShot SD1000 suffered the dreaded Lens Error about 10 days ago (giving me a great excuse -- along with a weeklong bout of my end-of-summer phantom tonsillitis -- to end my 365Days Year 2; kittens, what a relief).
I followed all the online advice to fix it -- save opening up the cover, which I might do now -- without success, so I finally caved and bought a slightly different (cheaper) model -- it's so much easier to film and photograph Miss P on the go with a PAS rather than my DSLR.
My fingers are crossed that this cam lasts longer than the first one -- I'll also make sure to keep Miss P's fingers off the camera!
Time to take the family to a new grazing location, all 6 got into the "rocking chair", that safe spot in the middle, and off they went.

Once Upon a time.....
...an attempt to put the previous picture more into the past.
I discovered this old abandoned house on my walks in nature here where the ravages of time work irrevocably. Examining the house, I found this scene as indescribable fascinating as the life up here. In my imagination, sits an old man after his working in the woods and eating in the back porch, here and enjoying the tranquility, the indescribably beautiful view and weighing his tired bones in this rocking chair before the fog up here takes the land back into his arms again.
* I think this version is more appropriate.....it's as if time has stopped
He likes Lene's rocking chair. In fact all the cats do, so she rarely gets a chance to sit in it herself...

Jeff_Hebert and his wife Mona Aliparis took me to the Oak Alley Plantation home. What a great place full of so much interest. The old cabins in the back were a treat. Even though you couldn't go in, I would reach across the guard rails and set my tripod inside to capture these still lifes. If you visit, try their Mint Julip for brunch. Oh man, it was good!
