I said I'd finish but I've changed my mind. I will keep posting some photos I loved from the last couple months, but it's just too decidely wintery out there for the spirit of this project. It was a gorgeous ride, though, and maybe I'll do it again next year!

(I do reserve the right to change my mind again.)

Installation in Halikonlahti Green Art, Salo Art Museum 2011. The work is about possible degrowth in Salo.

Patent No. 542,659 is for a rocking churn. The drawing adds the subtle social commentary that such otherwise productive activity might provide opportunity to read "Love Stories."

One wonders if Joseph Richardson knew of Samuel Richardson's "Pamela."

This, the girlier of the two rocking chairs, originally belonged to my Dad's brother...which puzzled me when I was a kid (because he grew up to be a rough and tough burly biker dude). But I was pleased to have it.

I took this picture while sitting in one of the two rocking chairs on the front porch of the George Eastman House. The architects of the building, which was finished in 1905, were far ahead of their time as they have included at least 2 Yosemite Sam's (Bugs Bunny's arch enemy-see "notes") at the top of this pillar.

There is something comforting about the rocking chair. As many times we have been here this year (the hospital) this is the first time I noticed one. I never had a rocking chair when my boys were little - but it seems worth investing for (the future).

Sophie loves any and all child-sized items. There's something very cute about diminutive furniture.

[Digital photo modified with an "old photo" effect. I prefer this one with the color stripped out.]

Had to talk myself out of taking this dolly home. This antique store also featured an amazing collection of not-for-sale dolls and a very sweet doggy who gave me many kissles!

My first sewing project for fun in at least six months! I sewed cushions for a Goodwill rocking chair using a vintage sheet and some grosgrain ribbon.

Large enough to swallow a rocking chair.

By the way - the chair is not in the process of tipping over; that is an optical effect created by the afghan pattern (and me throwing it over askew).

Rocking and relaxing on the front porch just watching the world go by

is the very definition of Southern easy living.

My mom's best friend gave this rocking chair to me when I was born (1976). I remember it always being in my room when I was growing up. It's a special edition but my mom couldn't remember who made it because the sticker was taken off. The middle spindle (is that the correct word?) is missing, I don't even remember when it came out.

I love this chair - when I have a little daughter someday I'll give it to her!

Cold nights in November reminds me of growing up in Michigan. On those cold nights we always had a fire in the fireplace that provided warmth and wonderful atmosphere, especially around the holidays. I tried to recreate that warm cozy feeling with this week's image. I put together a few elements for this still life image near a replica of a wood burning kitchen stove. I wanted to create the look of a snug place to curl up and read a book on a cold winter night. I call it "By The Firelight."

I created the image in my kitchen using one tungsten light source. The light was feathered away so most of the light illuminated the open Bible and not the stove. The authentic elements in the image are the chair, which is an antique rocker, the lantern, a carrier for coal, (the edge is in the bottom left corner) and the blanket, which was handmade by my daughter. I used my Canon SX40IS, ISO 100, f8, 1/4 second, on a tripod.

I hope you have a warm cozy spot to enjoy with friends and family this Thanksgiving.

This yellow rocking chair belonged to my Dad, 60+ years ago, and was passed down to my brother. Now it sits on my front porch.

It doesn't look like much at this stage, but there is a super-comfortable, gorgeous rocking chair in the making here. I'm trying to document Tim's woodworking/creative process with this series.

....until I came to this corner in my hand sewing... Since I have tried to work around it to no avail it looks like all will have to be taken apart and redone.
