I was struck by the lighting in this room. This particular picture is actually the first of many shots -- it's my favorite because of the perspective and ghostly (yet calm) atmosphere. I can easily imagine an old woman sitting alone in such a room, on such a chair, looking out the window.
No one but me and my family members will really know how much this photo means...but if I were to show it to my mother, she'd cry.
This is my grandfather's chair. He's been gone for a few years now, but every time I visit my grandmother, left alone in the house they shared for most of their lives, the pain of losing him is still sharp.
This was his chair, where he'd sit in the morning before the day began and sit at night as the day ended. It has something of him still on it, I think. No one else will sit in it. It's where his spirit would sit if he came by to visit.
Twixie covering his nose while enjoying his spot on my rocking chair in front of the window. The temps are in the teens outside, and even though our home is well insulated, near the windows it is still pretty chilly!
"The living room in my parents home." Cornelius and Anna Penner died in the 1950s, and Susan's parents died in the 1930s, so I'm not sure who wrote this note on the back of this photo. From the J. C. Penner archives.
These two lovely girls came for portraits on the porch today. If you recognize them, shhhhh! The portraits are a Father's Day gift!
They were so fun to work with, and adorable to boot! Blogged here: danigirl.ca/blog/2012/05/13/sneak-peek-porch-portraits-wi...
Eidan wasn't very happy about spending his time out on the rocking chair in the living room.

Very interesting image of a grandpa in a hammock, with a rocking chair nearby.
The back is marked which what I assume is his name: JAS. CLARK (James Clark).
So I had this idea in my head for a long time, and I finally got a small rocking chair off of someone on craigslist for cheap (thanks again to Jeff for picking it up for me!) and got the picture taken. It's supposed to be kinda creepy and I think I succeeded in that? The doll was my grandmother's when she was a little girl in the 1930's and I got it when she passed away. Its eyes open and close and it kinda creeps me out a little bit lol. I saw an image in my head of the doll in a child's size rocking chair alone out in the woods somewhere. But there's this rundown old building...house?...right outside our warehouse at work on the water, and I kept looking at it everyday leaving work and decided it'd be the perfect place to shoot the picture in front of. The broken glass window and the slightly open door (was already like that, I didn't do that) along with all the vines and trees and everything overgrown in front of it made it perfect. I added a texture to continue the creepy-ness and gave the picture a washed out feel. I'm pretty pleased with the way the photo came out.
"Worry is like a rocking chair. It give you something to do, but it gets you nowhere." Glenn Turner
This is part of my most favorite chair in my home. It is a rocking chair my son found along the side of the road and brought home. It was originally going to be his, but I fell in love with it and being the wonderful son that he is, he gave it to me. :-D
