Rocking and relaxing on the front porch just watching the world go by

is the very definition of Southern easy living.

My mom's best friend gave this rocking chair to me when I was born (1976). I remember it always being in my room when I was growing up. It's a special edition but my mom couldn't remember who made it because the sticker was taken off. The middle spindle (is that the correct word?) is missing, I don't even remember when it came out.

I love this chair - when I have a little daughter someday I'll give it to her!

Cold nights in November reminds me of growing up in Michigan. On those cold nights we always had a fire in the fireplace that provided warmth and wonderful atmosphere, especially around the holidays. I tried to recreate that warm cozy feeling with this week's image. I put together a few elements for this still life image near a replica of a wood burning kitchen stove. I wanted to create the look of a snug place to curl up and read a book on a cold winter night. I call it "By The Firelight."

I created the image in my kitchen using one tungsten light source. The light was feathered away so most of the light illuminated the open Bible and not the stove. The authentic elements in the image are the chair, which is an antique rocker, the lantern, a carrier for coal, (the edge is in the bottom left corner) and the blanket, which was handmade by my daughter. I used my Canon SX40IS, ISO 100, f8, 1/4 second, on a tripod.

I hope you have a warm cozy spot to enjoy with friends and family this Thanksgiving.

It doesn't look like much at this stage, but there is a super-comfortable, gorgeous rocking chair in the making here. I'm trying to document Tim's woodworking/creative process with this series.

Generously spacious and lavishly plush yet surprisingly affordable, the Storytime Rocker will quickly become a favorite of every member of your family.

....until I came to this corner in my hand sewing... Since I have tried to work around it to no avail it looks like all will have to be taken apart and redone.

Final gathering to show accomplishments

from my last session..

This chair belonged to Emma's grandma when she was a little girl...now Emma likes to rock in it when she visits!

I finally hung up her little growth chart. I just need to fill it in now. :D

(On a side note: Today Jacey is 2!! YAY! -July 1st!)

May you all enjoy a relaxing day on the porch with your loved ones.

This is a 3 generation photo.

The little girl is my paternal grandmother, standing is my great grandmother and seated is my great, great grandmother.

I bet these 2 have rocked through so many sunrise and sets. Imagine the storms rolling in and out these 2 have seen.... side by side they have seen it all!

Welcome to the first day of spring.

Hope. A town in Arkansas and the original home of Bill Clinton. This is his Childhood home, obviously with a newer paintjob and a nice rocking chair.

Sometimes one must just wait and rock and think on a friend ...no rushing allowed....

I do this now, with our girls, in the very same rocking chair.
