Detouring BNSF empty coal train E-SLCBKM0-22A passes the Lower Yard in downtown Rock Island while 427's power lays over.
With BNSF's Creston Sub shut down for flooding, the BNSF got creative with their necessary detours. This train ran from Galesburg to Barstow, west to Rock Island, north on the CP from Davenport to Camanche, IA and then west on the UP to Council Bluffs.

One of many geological formations across the United States known as Chimney Rock; this one is south of Cortez, CO near the south junction of U.S. 160 and U.S. 491. (Not to be confused with Chimney Rock National Monument, also in the southwest part of Colorado).

Another angle on St Marys lighthouse from last Sunday mornings outing, the final shot of the morning. Sorry lads for the "just this one more" shot ! LOL ;-)

I'm not 100% happy with the whole shot, but I deccided to upload it as is for now until I can figure out how to tweek the bits I'm not sure about... The unsharp rock to the left (because the waves were rolling over it) & the uneven tones in the sea to the right (probs because of rocks under the water causing the extra wave motion)..... :-/

If I asked you what colour this Rock Pipit is you would probably mention buffy tones on the underparts and maybe olive-brownish on the back. But this is the same bird taken just a minute or two earlier when it was in deep shadow: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/53345244577/in/dateposted/ Now this shady bird seems to have whitish underparts and cold grey upperparts with no hint of olive or brown. I have not altered the colours of either photo, these are straight off the camera. What a difference a bit of hazy sunshine makes. Incidentally, one of the supposedly diagnostic features of Rock Pipit is buffy/off white outer tail feathers, yet in sunshine or shade, this bird seems to have pure white outer tail feathers. I can see why people have difficulty identifying pipits. Thankfully the darkish legs and smudgy breast markings separate it from Meadow and Tree Pipits. Here's a Tree Pipit with pale pink legs and sharp breast markings: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/52935192965/in/photolist

Kicker Rock or “León Dormido” (Sleeping Lion in Spanish) as it looks like this from some angles, is an unusual lava formation just off the coast of San Cristobal that over the years has split in two. Interestingly it was formed as the core of a volcano.
Now a favourite place for divers and snorkelling and full of seabirds and sealife

Split Rock Lighthouse is a lighthouse located southwest of Silver Bay, Minnesota, USA on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The structure was designed by lighthouse engineer Ralph Russell Tinkham and was completed in 1910 by the United States Lighthouse Service at a cost of $75,000, including the buildings and the land. It is considered one of the most picturesque lighthouses in the United States.

The Rock of Cashel (Irish: Carraig Phádraig), also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patrick's Rock, is a historic site in Ireland's province of Munster, located at Cashel, South Tipperary.
The Rock of Cashel was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman invasion. Few remnants of the early structures survive; the majority of buildings on the current site date from the 12th and 13th centuries. Cashel is reputed to be the site of the conversion of the King of Munster by St. Patrick in the 5th century. The picturesque complex has a character of its own and is one of the most remarkable collections of Celtic art and medieval architecture to be found anywhere in Europe
