Joshua Tree National Park. This can be found along a short side-hike from the Split Rock Loop trail.
The tide was going out so I thought I'd capture the reflection of the clouds in the wet sand but arrived too late and there were already 7 people set up waiting for the sun to set so I took a walk across the rocks looking for a rock pool.
The Joshua Tree (U2 !) N.P.
The Joshua tree, the largest of the yuccas, grows only in the Mojave Desert. Its height varies from 15-40 feet with a diameter of 1-3 feet. They grow 2 to 3 inches a year, takes 50 to 60 years to mature and they can live 150 years.
The rock formations of Joshua Tree National Park were formed more than 100 million years ago from the cooling of magma beneath the surface into monzogranite, with roughly rectangular joints. Groundwater then filtered through the joints to erode away the corners and edges to create rounded stones, and flash floods washed away covering ground to create piles of boulders.

That's a geologist... Take her to a nice beach under an amazing sky and she spends the evening crawling around in the rip-rap with a flashlight. ;)
The Rock Pipit is a large stocky pipit, larger than a meadow pipit and smaller than a starling. It is streaky olive-brown above and dirty white underneath with dark streaking. It breeds around the coast where there are rocky beaches and most of the birds which breed in the UK are residents, with only the young birds dispersing once they become independent. Some birds arrive here from Norway to spend the winter.

This is another of my wife's painted rocks that I document for her.
Lighting stuff: I wanted even, balanced lighting to document this so I used 2 YN560-III's in soft boxes. I positioned the lights in front, on either side of the rock, and pointing towards the center at a 45 degree angle. When I first set out to learn lighting, this is how I was taught to document objects. The strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other paintings she has done, that I have documented, can be seen in the Maria's Paintings album.
Detouring BNSF empty coal train E-SLCBKM0-22A passes the Lower Yard in downtown Rock Island while 427's power lays over.
With BNSF's Creston Sub shut down for flooding, the BNSF got creative with their necessary detours. This train ran from Galesburg to Barstow, west to Rock Island, north on the CP from Davenport to Camanche, IA and then west on the UP to Council Bluffs.

One of many geological formations across the United States known as Chimney Rock; this one is south of Cortez, CO near the south junction of U.S. 160 and U.S. 491. (Not to be confused with Chimney Rock National Monument, also in the southwest part of Colorado).

Another angle on St Marys lighthouse from last Sunday mornings outing, the final shot of the morning. Sorry lads for the "just this one more" shot ! LOL ;-)
In the grand company of Davey Bryan & Col B
I'm not 100% happy with the whole shot, but I deccided to upload it as is for now until I can figure out how to tweek the bits I'm not sure about... The unsharp rock to the left (because the waves were rolling over it) & the uneven tones in the sea to the right (probs because of rocks under the water causing the extra wave motion)..... :-/

Went with Sam to his caretaking job about 50 miles outta Missoula. This is Rock Creek...a gorgeous, very mountainous area. There also alot of Mountain Sheep out this way...but didn't get to see them this time. Large view is better....:)
The Italian name is "Pietra di Bismantova". This Is an arenaria rock. Was formed after many depositions of sand and sediments in the Sea and with the tectonic moviment, Today is an climbing rock for the escursionists.

Female dancers aren't common in rock music, as rock bands traditionally consist of singers, guitarists, bassists, and drummers. There are also all-female rock bands or bands with female dancers, but these are the exception rather than the rule.
