Rock, Paper, Funk plays the Delaware Street Festival, after a 2-year pandemic hiatus
To me it just isn't spring until I've heard two or three of my favorite bird songs. The first being the Meadowlark and the second being the Canyon wren and the third being the Rock Wren. The wrens and the meadowlark occupy very different habitats that I like to wander in pursuit of wildlife and both have hauntingly beautiful songs that when combined with the sights and smells of spring, entice me to stay in the wild and return to the city no more. If only...
This past weekend I heard both rock wrens and canyon wrens in the canyons I visited. So I just need to get out and hear some meadowlarks now.
Here is a link to the songs of the wrens:
No description this time around, but you can read the story behind this image and many other taken the same day here.
Enjoy!

The Rock of Cashel (Irish: Carraig Phádraig), also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patrick's Rock, is a historic site in Ireland's province of Munster, located at Cashel, South Tipperary.
The Rock of Cashel was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman invasion. Few remnants of the early structures survive; the majority of buildings on the current site date from the 12th and 13th centuries. Cashel is reputed to be the site of the conversion of the King of Munster by St. Patrick in the 5th century. The picturesque complex has a character of its own and is one of the most remarkable collections of Celtic art and medieval architecture to be found anywhere in Europe
One of the most photographed spots on Mackinac Island, Michigan is Arch Rock. This geological wonder is a natural limestone arch that was formed during the Nipissing post-glacial period when high Lake Huron levels and wave action created openings in the rock. Arch Rock stands 146' over the Lake Huron shoreline--nearly 15 stories tall. The opening spans 50' at its widest point. In Anishinaabe-Ojibwa tradition, the Great Creator blew the breath of life into the newly formed earth and created Arch Rock. Like nearby Devil's Kitchen and Sugar Loaf, Arch Rock's limestone formation took thousands of years by wind, water and receding glaciers to be created. It is made of breccia limestone, a rare limestone for the Great Lakes. The limestone formation was so unique that it was one of the reasons early Mackinac Island residents lobbied for the island to become Mackinac National Park in 1875, and then Mackinac Island State Park in 1895. Arch Rock is located along Arch Rock Road on the southeast portion of the island and offers sweeping views of Lake Huron and Canada.

THE BASS ROCK is situated in the Firth of Forth, two miles east of North Berwick and one mile off the mainland. (Position on a Nautical Chart - 56` 4.6' N. 2` 38.3' W.) A huge trachyte plug rising 313 feet, with three sides of sheer cliff, and a tunnel piercing the rock to a depth of 105 metres. The gentler slope to the south forms a lower promontory where the ruins of a castle stand dating back to at least 1405. Where James the second son of Robert III, later to become James I was sent by his father until a vessel was found to transport him to France as the king's brother the Duke of Albany had designs on the throne. Albany tipped off the English who intercepted James's ship and imprisoned the prince in the Round Tower at Windsor for nineteen years.

Rock pools are a very distinctive feature of the Sydney coastline; most of the headlands separating Sydney's beaches have one. This one is at South Curl Curl.
My son plays lead guitar in the school rock band.He is the one doing the scissor kick to pump up his band mates and the audience. I have to admit, I was on an emotional high seeing him rocking out. After the show, it continued as people went out of their way to congratulate him on his performance. Then he went off to the USA directly from the show to see Bruce Springsteen with one his teachers.

It's the start of a Rock and Drill concert! You know it'll be great because the background has what looks like a hurricane icon. Look to the right of the guitar to find it.
Just returned from a wonderful trip to South Africa where I had the absolute pleasure of guiding the photographical game-drives for a group of very special people at Marataba Game Reserve in South Africa.
Those of you that know me a bit longer here on Flickr, know that I simply can't resist a Lilac Breasted Roller. Especially not when it flies against the backdrop of the beautiful Waterberg Mountains..
So there's rock, and a Roller..

There are not always birds around so I look for other things that grab my attention. This inscription on a large boulder looked like a conversation from days past...This image was photographed in Colombia guided by Neotropic Photo Tours (I found this on my own!!!).
I had the pleasure of doing my first senior photo shoot with this "rock star"!! He was just amazing. We hit so many cool spots and he rocked them all!!!
Leisurely sketch over an hour looking out to the beautiful Camel estuary. Always a great painting inspiration for me. Also...my last sketch of 2012!
