Continuing with day 1 in Cornwall photography adventure.
A wet, dreary and very windy afternoon at the Rock. I struggled for composition and angle at this location, and the fact I had been awake for 30 hours at this point I was starting to flag.
It wasnt till I got home and started looking at other images from this location online that I released there is a much better shot to be hand a few meters to my right and behind me as you look at this.... dam! .
Its my own fault I never research the locations I shoot, just turn up with no idea! - and it shows.... sometimes

Another view further down the beach at Black Rock Sands.
There is a walkway behind the dunes and Rocks to gain access to the beach.
The sand is [ soft ] so you have to be very aware it can be a bit dangerous in
Places. No vehicles are allowed this far on the beach passed the warning signs.
New Brighton Lighthouse was originally known as Perch Rock Lighthouse. Construction of the present structure began in 1827 though a light had been maintained on the rock since 1683. It was designed by John Foster, Jr, on the lines of Eddystone, and built by Tomkinson & Company using marble rock from Anglesey.
New Brighton Lighthouse or Perch Rock Lighthouse, is now a decommissioned lighthouse situated at the mouth of the River Mersey and Liverpool Bay on an outcrop off New Brighton known locally as Perch Rock. Together with its neighbour, the Napoleonic era Fort Perch Rock, it is one of the Wirral's best known landmarks.
Although the lighting apparatus and fog bell have been removed, the lighthouse is very well preserved and retains many features lost on other disused lighthouses. It was restored and repainted in 2001 when an LED lightsource was installed which flashed the names of those lost at sea; including all the 1,517 victims of the sinking of the Titanic. At low tide, it is possible to walk to the base of the tower, but a 25-foot ladder is needed to reach the doorway.
The lighthouse is privately owned and maintained by the Kingham family, and is a Grade II* listed building.Another plan to illuminate the lantern using LEDs and solar panels was achieved with a grant from the Coastal Revival and New Brighton Coastal Community Team (NBCCT) and has been operating since 2015.

on mirror, for Macro Mondays. From one side to the other at the widest part, it measures an inch and a quarter. Have not yet decided which one to post to group.
Finally chose this one because there is more detail in the blue-green layer and more translucence in the crystals.
There are some nice views of Cathedral Rock on the trail leading to it that give various foreground options to a photographer. Sedona, Arizona, USA, November 2022

Cambrian quartzite beside the Mountain Trail in Beinn Eighe NNR. The "pipes", a little under 1 cm in diameter, are fossils of worm burrows from about 500 million years ago, here seen in cross section.
The quartzite was originally laid down as sandstone but metamorphosed by heat and pressure deep under the Earth's surface, losing the "grain" of the sandstone but not, in this instance, the fossils. A similar process is responsible for turning limestone into marble and, while chemically different, quartzite and marble can look quite similar, especially when the former doesn't contain fossils.
Very little plant life grows where quartzite is exposed as, being largely pure silicon dioxide, it doesn't break down to useful nutrients when it weathers, resulting in large areas of greyish-white exposed rock and scree, as illustrated on a large scale on Beinn Eighe itself, Foinaven and a number of other mountains in Scotland.

I found this beautiful and large individual guarding a bed along the bank of the Nissitissit River yesterday afternoon. It was by far the most cooperative fish I've photographed yet, often letting me get the end of my dome port just inches away.
Sunset didn't quite happen as I would have hoped yesterday. It looked as if it was going to light up but was instead, much more subdued but still created some wonderful soft, pastel colours. The activity in the waves was still enough to create an image with interest though. I don't know why I have never noticed this composition before now, having spent many hours down at this location. I love finding shapes and patterns in nature that just work. This is the coastline of Portknockie in Morayshire, Scotland.
